Chapter 09 We're Late!
James pointed at Ryder and yelled, "It's him, grab him quickly!"
"Damn it, this ignorant fool dared to cause trouble in a hospital!" The three security guards cursed and moved forward to apprehend Ryder.
"Hold on!" Ryder shouted sternly, interrupting their actions.
"What's wrong, scared now?" James sneered mockingly. "Weren't you arrogant just now? Regretting it already? No chance! I'm reporting you for disturbance of medical services. Not only will you go to jail, but your unlucky sister, along with all your relatives and friends, will be banned from entering any hospital for the rest of their lives. They can wait to die! "
The coldness in Ryder's eyes grew even more intense. "They say the medical profession is compassionate, yet Houston First Hospital has produced someone like you—a disgrace! You're willing to sacrifice lives for your ego and selfish desires."
James, full of disdain, retorted, "Accusing me of sacrificing lives? Kid, do you know how many lives I've saved in my lifetime? As the saying goes, saving a life can lead to heaven. I could become a god! Do you even have the qualifications to point a finger at me?"
Ryder stood his ground, unyielding. "Are you saving people for money or out of compassion? Don't you have any sense of shame? By doing what you're doing, aren't you afraid of being exposed online?"
James couldn't care less. "Stop pretending, kid. This hospital is filled with my people. With just your words, who would believe you? Don't end up with an empty bag after doing all this. I'll add a defamation charge to your name!"
"Just my words won't be enough, but what you said will be sufficient!" Ryder shook his phone, indicating the voice recording feature.
"You dare to record?" James's face turned pale. "Here's your chance. Hand over your phone, and delete the recording. Otherwise, don't blame me for not being polite!"
"Well, Deputy Dean, isn't your authority impressive! I won't give you my phone. What will you do?" Ryder retorted.
James was furious. "You ignorant brat! You don’t know your place! You guys, take his phone away!"
The three security guards rushed forward to snatch Ryder's phone.
A scuffle ensued.
The commotion attracted onlookers in the hallway. There were family members of other patients as well as some hospital staff.
The hospital staff initially intended to intervene and stop the conflict, but upon seeing James seething with rage, they quickly turned a blind eye and slipped away.
Amidst the chaos, a domineering voice suddenly rang out, "You brat, if you don't hand over your phone soon, I'll pull the breathing tube out of this girl!"
Ryder turned his head to look.
His heart trembled. Neil, who had been lying on the hospital bed, had somehow made his way to Ava's bedside. He placed his left hand on her breathing tube, giving Ryder a provoking stare.
"Release your hand!" Ryder's voice lowered.
Neil rolled his eyes. "Who do you think you are, you piece of trash? How dare you command me? If I feel like it, I'll remove this girl's breathing tube!"
"Your sister, a person of your kind, dares to think she deserves this place more than me?" With an evil smile on his lips, he suddenly said, "But let me be frank, this little girl is quite pretty. Let me check if she's matured yet!" He lifted his right hand, ready to touch Ava.
"Fuck your mother!" Ryder shouted, wanting to rush over, but he was firmly blocked by the security guards, unable to move.
At this moment, some of the onlookers couldn't bear it and started discussing:
"Threatening people with patients? How shameless!"
"The doctor inside, don't you care? This could lead to deaths!"
"What are the hospital security guards doing? They don't stop this young man, but they stop relatives of the patients?"
Faced with everyone's comments, Neil raised his fist and said, "Shut the fuck up! Anyone who continues to speak will get a beating!"
James chose to ignore Neil’s actions and threatened fiercely, "Anyone who meddles, patients’ relatives included, will be kicked out of the hospital!"
Now, everyone kept their mouths shut and remained silent.
Ryder's eyes were filled with anger as he said, "I will make you pay for this!"
Neil mockingly laughed, "Idiot, pay for it? Quickly hand over your phone, then kneel down and apologize to my uncle! Otherwise, not only will I touch every part of your sister's body, but I will also pull out her oxygen tube and let her die!"
Neil's mother chimed in with a twisted mouth, "Just by looking at your face, one can tell that you're a little scoundrel. Even if I killed you, I would feel like my hands got dirty!"
At this point, Ryder's chest was completely filled with rage.
Even when Karen or Tom had mocked him yesterday, he didn't feel this much resentment.
Just as Ryder was starting to have thoughts of going all out, a cold voice was heard. "Take your filthy hands off the lady!"
This loud shout was like thunder in the air, capturing everyone's attention.
They saw a group of people walking briskly from the corridor elevator.
There were more than twenty of them, with a man over 1.9 meters tall leading the way. He had a shaved head and a scar under his left eye.
In his right hand, he held a whip, exuding a cold aura. The people behind him were also intimidating, making others reluctant to approach.
Their appearance changed the expressions of everyone present.
Neil's body trembled. Swallowing a gulp of saliva, he said, "George..."
The rest of the people present couldn't help but show uncontrollable panic when they saw this man.
Ryder knew this person.
George Weir.
He made a fortune in the ore business, flourished in various circles in Houston, and was considered a prominent figure.
Though he appeared to be a successful businessman, everyone knew about his questionable methods behind the scenes.
What surprised everyone was that George walked straight up to Ryder and respectfully bowed ninety degrees. "Mr. Clark, I'm sorry for being late. Please punish me!"
Everyone's eyes widened. What was going on? Who was the young man that made George apologize?
Ryder remained composed because he was familiar with George.
From the moment he appeared, he knew it must have been Scott's doing.
At this moment, Ryder also felt some resentment in his heart.
So he replied indifferently, "You're not late. Ava and I are still alive!"
Upon hearing this, George, who was known as Boss Houston, trembled and knelt down, sweating profusely. Nervously, he pleaded, "Mr. Clark, it's my fault. I deserve to die! Please give me a chance!"
The reason George was so terrified was Scott's command just a few minutes ago.
His life could be taken away if Ryder missed even a strand of hair!
No matter how tough George was in Houston, in the eyes of someone like Scott, a truly powerful figure, he was merely an ant. He could be crushed with just a flick of Scott's finger.
This astonishing scene made onlookers vaguely realize that this young man surnamed Clark was not as simple as he appeared.
Although Neil was arrogant, he wasn't foolish. He immediately realized that he had caused a big disaster. Trembling, he released the oxygen tube.
With a mournful face, he explained to George, "George... It's all a misunderstanding! It's not what you saw..."
George ignored him and continued kneeling.
He was waiting for Ryder's answer. Would he be given a chance?
Ten seconds passed, and Ryder finally spoke expressionlessly, "He was hospitalized because of a leg injury!"
These words puzzled everyone. What did it mean?
But for George, who was still kneeling, it felt as if he was forgiven. He stood up with a pat.
Turning around, he faced the stunned Neil, wielding his baton and smashing it against Neil's thigh!
