Betrayed Hearts: shattered vows

ELENA POV

"I love you, Elena, please don't leave me!!!!" Gabriel yelled, but as I moved closer to pull him out of the cage I fell deep into the ground, it was a trap.

"Help!!!" I yelled from the pit hole but no response until I heard footsteps getting closer and when I looked up it was Gabriel with a malicious smirk on his face.

"Alpha Gabriel!!!." I continued to yell but instead, he walked away.

"No!!!" I yelled, thank goodness it was just a dream, why would I be dreaming in broad daylight? What could this dream mean? I asked myself.

"Elena, stand up. You are supposed to serve the queen's family dinner, hurry." One of the maids instructed, pointing to some dish on the counter which I picked up and rushed towards the dining room.

Bethany and Gabriel were sitting beside each other while the queen was seating in her usual seat. I slowly placed the dishes on the table but something about Gabriel's new aura was different, he stared at me with no emotion, and when I smiled at him he frowned even more, like he was trying to fight something within him.

"So Bethany, were you able to convince Alpha Gabriel?" Beta Brent asked to take a seat with them.

"Yes." She said confidently, making me scoff in my mind.

"I would be his Luna and bear him the male child the throne needs." She said, taking Gabriel's hands in hers and smiling at him. The queen also smiled.

I picked up a plate and headed towards Beta Brent so I could also serve him some of the desserts.

"So, is it true Gabriel?" His mother asked, making me walk even more slowly as I walked past him.

"Yes mother, I would marry Bethany." With those words I immediately lost balance with the plate in my hands, it slipped and fell to the ground with everything around me suddenly becoming null and slow.

Bethany stood up to help me but Gabriel was still in his seat, not even moved by what just happened.

"Are you alright?" Bethany asked.

I couldn't believe what I had just heard. Gabriel's words echoed in my ears, shattering my heart into a million pieces. How could he deny our love so easily? How could he humiliate me in front of his mother and Bethany?

Tears welled up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. I couldn't show weakness, not in front of Gabriel or anyone else. I straightened my back and looked directly into Gabriel's eyes, my voice steady but filled with pain.

"Is this true, Gabriel? Are you rejecting me as your mate?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

He looked at me coldly, his eyes void of any emotion. "Yes, Elena. Everything we had was a lie. None of it meant anything to me."

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. It felt as if the ground had been ripped from beneath me, leaving me floating in a sea of emptiness. I could hear Bethany's laughter in the background, her satisfaction evident in her eyes.

"No..." I muttered, my voice trembling. "Gabriel, please... I thought we had something special. I thought you loved me."

He scoffed, a bitter smile forming on his lips. "Love? Elena, love is a weakness. I was just playing along, indulging in a momentary distraction. But it's time for me to fulfill my duty as the Alpha. Bethany is the one I have chosen to be my mate."

I felt a fire ignite within me, fueled by betrayal and hurt. "You can't do this! You can't just toss me aside like I meant nothing to you!"

Gabriel stood up, his eyes narrowing. "Watch me, Elena. This is my decision, and I will not be swayed by your desperate pleas."

I could feel the eyes of everyone in the room on me, watching as my heart shattered into a million pieces. But I refused to let them see me crumble. I refused to let them see the pain they had caused.

With every ounce of strength left within me, I held my head high and took a step back. "Fine, Gabriel. If this is what you truly want, then I will leave. I will leave this palace and your life, and you will never have to see me again."

"Yes, leave and never return…continue your work as a maid for another master."

I turned on my heels, walking away with as much dignity as I could muster. The tears finally fell, blurring my vision and making it difficult to navigate the halls. But I couldn't stop. I had to leave. I had to escape the pain that was consuming me.

Outside the palace was very quiet and I was grateful my relationship with Alpha Gabriel wasn't a public affair, I most definitely would have been in a deeper mess. I pulled my pieces of luggage out of the pack territory and towards the forest close by. Did I forget to say rouge wolves like us have a specific scent, Yes I have a particular scent that invites unnecessary werewolves around.

I heard footsteps following me after I left the pack territory and I was more frightened than ever but decided to keep a straight face and continue going on.

I could feel someone's eyes on me making me nervous, I have never really been out of the palace most of the years making all this unfamiliar to me.

"Who is there!!!" I yelled but no one answered. I continued walking up the mountain but for some weird reason, I felt like puking which was unusual because I didn't eat anything unusual.

"You shouldn't be walking around with that blood flowing through you." I heard a hoarse voice behind me making me stiff.

"Who are you!!!" I exclaimed but all I heard was laughter.

"I said you shouldn't be moving around with royal blood moving in you, people would kill for that." I heard again, I decided to take a huge leap and turn around to see this mysterious person but as I slowly turned around I suddenly felt something slam my head like it could explode, making everything around suddenly blurry. I touched my head slowly and I was bleeding but when I tried to see my attacker, I got hit again making everything around me blank while I lost consciousness.
