Chapter 4 - Betrayed by my father!

Nadia

I glared first at the man who I knew as my father and he hissed. Then I glared at the man claiming to be my father and he softly growled, but he took a step back. How was I supposed to choose between them?! One raised me while the other claimed the one that raised me actually kidnapped me?! The only thing I knew for sure was that whatever I decided, someone was going to get hurt.

One of them was lying to me, and I would find out who! I needed to find out the truth for myself and I would begin with the man I knew as my father. I would return to the castle with the vampires first before speaking to strangers.

I waited until both agreed to the truce and turned to walk away before I moved from my spot. My legs were shaking and my heart was racing. When I turned to look back, I saw the brown wolf looking back before she disappeared into the brush of the forest. If they were really my parents, my decision tonight was hurting them most of all, but if Sebastian was lying to me, I didn’t want him to have time to think of a way out of it.

If Angelo was really my father, he would realize that I was doing this to protect the pack. He would know I was trying to get to the truth without more blood being shed. If Sebastian went as far as raising me as his own to take revenge on my parents and not for my parents … The only way I would be able to protect the pack would have been to leave with the vampires.

We walked into the castle and I looked around. It was dusty and cold, just like the vampires. The furniture was old and had lost some of its luster after all the centuries … Just like the vampires lost their luster for me tonight. I had always idolized them. I thought they were the most amazing creatures and, although I knew I wasn’t one of them and would never be able to be like them, I dreamed of a world in which I could rule this kingdom. I dreamt I could lead an army and bring peace to our kingdom … Damn! I was a fool!

“Is it true?” I turned to look at my father and silence fell around us. Our guards would be staying with us until the threat of the wolves was gone. The rest of the coven had already returned to what they were doing before the wolves showed up. My father didn’t look at me for just a moment and when he did, I could just tell.

“They didn’t deserve you! They killed my father and my mate!” He hissed and I gasped at the anger in his eyes. I had never before seen him so furious. I had never before seen such hatred in his eyes. “I took you from them and made them believe you were dead. I was going to kill you at first, but I knew that the ultimate revenge would be if I trained you to kill them. If I could teach you how to hate them as much as I did!” He looked away and when he looked at me again, his eyes were filled with the love I always saw in them when he looked at me.

“As time passed, I grew to love you as my own. I was constantly torn between my need for revenge and my love for you.” He reached out and his cool fingers slipped over my cheek and I closed my eyes just for a second, but I didn’t feel the love I felt just hours ago. All I felt was the pain of betrayal. The person I thought loved me had betrayed me in the worst way possible.

I expected him to try and lie at first, but the evidence was undeniable. My parents were alive, and Sebastian stole all that time from us all. His need for revenge nearly ruined all of our lives. I opened my eyes and noted the shock that registered in his. He trained me well … Too well. Before his guards could stop me, I shifted and bit into his throat. He gasped and his arms shook underneath me for just a second before he went limp.

I let his head drop to the floor as I glared at the guards around me. By law, I was their queen now! My growl echoed throughout the castle. I couldn’t allow myself to mourn Sebastian. I didn’t think about securing my throne as I pushed off and ran into the night. Memories of me and Sebastian flashed through my mind as branches hit me in the face.

I had no idea where I was going. All I knew was that I had to get out of that castle. I had to get away from those monsters! How many of them knew what Sebastian was planning?! How many of them laughed behind my back at the gullible little wolf! Feeling the dirt under my paws, I ran as fast as I could until I ran right into a brick wall of a wolf. He growled, but I saw recognition register in his eyes as he quickly lowered his head.

“Nadia?!” I heard a voice in my head and shook my head to clear my thoughts. It was happening! The trauma of what I had done and what happened had made me crazy! The world around me started to spin before everything just blacked out and my head hit the ground. The wolf was one of my parents’ pack. He was out on patrol and quickly informed them that I was there.

“Nadia, sweetheart, please wake up.” A soft voice drifted through and I blinked to try and focus. A woman was sitting beside me and she looked so much like me! I blinked again before swinging my arms around her neck.

“Mom!”
