Chapter 6 - Have you found your mate yet?
Nadia
SADLY, NOBODY PUT TWO AND TWO TOGETHER, thanks to Sebastian’s clever way of keeping me inside the castle walls. I had finally gotten everything I had always dreamed about! Only I never imagined it would be possible. I thought my parents were dead, but here they were right in front of me. The person who had caused me so much pain was dead! Most importantly, I was the one who killed him!
I was astonished to find out that my parents had kept all the gifts they meant to give me over the years. They told me that they bought me a birthday present every year on my birthday and kept it hoping that one day I would come back to them. Only one gift had been wrapped and as my mother handed it to me, she blushed.
“It won’t fit you anymore, but this was the gift we bought for you on the day you were born.” I opened the small box and, on the inside, there was a beautiful golden bracelet. My name was engraved on it, but my mother was right. There was no way it would fit me anymore!
“It’s beautiful.” I tried to smile but tears filled my eyes as I looked at them. I had wondered how they never thought of looking for me in the castle, but seeing all the gifts and my room … I knew how hard it must have been for them all those years. I knew deep down that they never stopped looking for me. “How did you guys know where to find me?” I frowned and they asked me to sit down.
My parents took turns in explaining how they heard about the new vampire princess just days after I had been kidnapped. They stormed the castle but Sebastian showed them a little blond child, so they never thought about it being me again. The girl was a couple of years old, and I was just a couple of days old. Then they heard about the young princess who shifted on her sixteenth birthday.
They didn’t pay it much mind, since they thought it was the little girl they saw all those years ago and that she probably shifted at an older age. According to my mother, it sometimes happens that we could shift at a younger age or even older. It all depended on the circumstances. So, again, they didn’t pay much attention to the rumours.
“Honey, we didn’t know until we captured a vampire from the castle in our forest and he told us that it was you. I’m ashamed to admit that at first your father and I didn’t believe it was you. We had seen the girl ourselves, but the vampire was adamant. Your father and I thought it was one of Sebastian’s many tricks he was playing on us again. The man tortured us with fake news about you all these years.” She dabbed her eyes before continuing. “We decided to find out once and for all and well, you know the rest. The moment I saw you in your wolf form, I knew it was you.”
It was an incredible story. Sebastian had gone to great lengths to make my parents believe the child wasn’t me but that I was still out in the world alive somewhere. I can’t describe the hatred I felt for the man and if I hadn’t already killed the bastard, I would have gone there and ripped him limb from limb!
My parents showed me around the pack house and grounds and although it wasn’t as grand as the vampire castle, I found that I actually preferred it. It was home. It wasn’t as cold as everything in the castle. I could see that the wolves weren’t poor and I wondered where they got their money from, but I didn’t want to ask such a personal question just yet.
My life quickly changed over the next couple of days as my parents gave me all the gifts they had packed away for eighteen years. My life has never been this happy. Hell, I didn’t even know what happiness was until my parents showed me. I had a beautiful car and I also had guards. There was never a shortage of food around, and suddenly it explained my incredible appetite! I was the daughter of an alpha. Alphas ate far more than the other ranks. My bedroom was beautiful, and my mom had it redecorated in no time at all.
They kept it the same way all these years and that was the final thing we needed to form a lasting bond. My parents really loved me. I was just lucky enough to have found them again. I had to go to school after being home schooled all my life, which was a bit of a drag, but I quickly made a friend.
“You are the alpha’s daughter. You should be proud of that fact. People should be looking down whenever you walk into a room.” She was kind and I appreciated her advice. It didn’t take long for the popular kids to try and make friends, but I didn’t fall for their manipulation.
I would be damned if I became their friend and became just like them! Things were taking a huge turn for the better in our pack … Or so I thought. I had been back home for a couple of months and things were going really great. I made friends and the vampires weren’t making any moves on the territory after I killed Sebastian. Hell, I was officially their queen. They wouldn’t dare attack!
“Sweetheart, we have to talk.” My parents had asked me to come see them after school and as soon as I walked in, I could feel I wasn’t going to like what they were about to tell me. “Have you found your mate yet?” Their question hit me right between the damn eyes! I sank into the couch wishing the earth would swallow me!
