Chapter Four
Chapter four
Daisy’s POV
As soon as the bell rang, signifying the end of Anthony's class, I felt a wave of relief wash over me. The torture of being in the same room as him was unbearable. I quickly closed my book, eager to leave and avoid him at all costs.
"You seem to be in a hurry. Will you still be able to show me around?" Emily asked, noticing my hastiness.
"Of course, I just really want to get out of this class," I replied, hoping to distract myself from the unsettling encounter.
"Is it because of him?" she asked, glancing toward Anthony's direction. "Did something happen between the two of you?"
"I wish," I murmured, my true feelings slipping out before I could stop myself. Realizing what I had just said, I backtracked, "I mean, no, nothing happened."
Emily saw through my attempt to hide my emotions. "The look on your face says it all. The chemistry between the two of you is real," she observed.
Feeling a bit flustered, I wondered if my feelings were so obvious that the rest of the class had also noticed. I dreaded the thought of becoming the subject of gossip among my peers.
Just then, Liam appeared by my side once again. Concern etched on his face, he asked if I was okay. "You look nervous, and you're sweaty," he pointed out.
"I think it's just the clothes I'm wearing," I lied, trying to come up with an excuse.
Liam wasn't convinced. "Are you sure? I noticed you changed immediately after the lecturer entered the room."
I hesitated, not wanting to involve him in my complicated emotions. "It's really nothing, Liam. Just a bit overwhelmed by the first day of classes," I replied, hoping he'd drop the matter. But deep down, I knew that facing Anthony again had stirred up old feelings and fears that I had buried for so long.
That behavior from Liam surprised me because he usually didn't care much about what happened to me, and I had grown accustomed to it. "I'm fine, we'll meet for lunch," I assured him, giving him a quick hug to avoid any further questions.
Leaving the class in a hurry with Emily beside me, I realized that my next period was free, so I decided to use that time to show her around the school. As we walked and talked, I got to know more about her, and it was clear that we would indeed become best friends, just as she had predicted. Emily was funny and had a good sense of direction. We exchanged numbers, promising to meet up after school before heading home.
The rest of the hours at school were bearable as I didn't spot Anthony anywhere, for which I was grateful. I knew that I would be changing out of his class soon, as it would be challenging for me to change schools again in my last year. However, the thought of facing him again had already stirred up enough anxiety.
Finally, it was lunchtime, and I went over to my boyfriend's table. I didn't particularly like coming to this area because it was where the school's queen bee loved to eat, and she took great pleasure in bullying me during lunch. Liam, however, seemed indifferent to the situation, as he didn't want to risk losing his reputation by standing up for me.
I looked over and saw Paige already at the table, wearing that familiar smirk on her face. She was always ready to torment me, and I couldn't understand why she held such animosity towards me. "Here comes the lover girl," she taunted, referring to me.
Choosing to ignore her, as I usually did, I sat down with my food and greeted the others at the table. Their replies were mumbled and incomprehensible, but I chose to brush them off. However, my attention was quickly drawn back when Paige mentioned Anthony's name. It seemed she had been in his class as well, and now she was sharing her plan to seduce him and make him her sugar daddy.
My frustration got the best of me, and I hissed in annoyance. But before I knew it, my food was drenched in juice. "Paige!" I screamed at her, feeling a mix of anger and embarrassment.
"What?" she yelled back, showing no remorse.
"Why did you do this?" I asked, hoping that Liam would speak up on my behalf. However, to my disappointment, he laughed along with the others, joining in on the mockery.
"You're sitting at our table; can't you find your own spot? Or must you be a clingy girlfriend?" Paige sneered, making my blood boil even more.
Unable to tolerate her cruel behavior, I shot back, "Is that the reason you drenched my food?" But Paige continued to antagonize me, saying, "You hissed at my words. Do you think you're pretty, and that he will pick you over me, just like Liam did?"
Her words ignited a fiery anger within me, and I couldn't bear her audacity any longer. Standing up, I impulsively retaliated by drenching her clothes with my own juice. The mere mention of Anthony not picking me over her fueled my rage. In response, she grabbed my hair, and I
instinctively pulled at hers, and soon we were entangled in a heated physical altercation. Surprisingly, my so-called boyfriend Liam didn't even attempt to intervene.
Thankfully, Emily came to the scene and tried to reason with me. "Come on, Daisy, she's not worth your time," she pleaded.
But I was too heated to back down. "I need to teach her a lesson that it's not everyone she can bully," I said before landing a punch on Paige's face.
Emily, being the voice of reason, pointed out, "Look at her; she got the message already."
"What's going on here?" I heard Anthony's voice, and my heart skipped a beat.
"Nothing," I quickly replied, not wanting him to think I was acting out of jealousy.
"I don't know what came over her," Paige replied, trying to play innocent as she adjusted her juice-stained clothes.
"Go clean yourself up, and you better don't let me see the both of you fighting again," Anthony commanded firmly.
As he spoke to Paige, I couldn't help but steal glances at him. He hadn't changed at all, and the feelings I had for him came rushing back in. It was going to be impossible to control those emotions now that he was my lecturer again. "Are you okay?" he asked, genuine concern in his eyes.
"Yes," I replied, trying to gather my senses. "Are you hurt anywhere?" he inquired further.
I felt a mix of frustration and surprise. Now he cared if I was hurt? He should have thought about that when he chose my sister over me. Deciding not to engage further, I simply thanked him for his help and chose not to respond to his question about my well-being.
"Babe, are you okay?" Liam came to my side, wrapping his hand around my waist.
I forced a smile, hiding my frustration with him, but I didn't want to show any weakness in front of Anthony. "This is my boyfriend, Liam," I introduced him, making sure Anthony knew that I had moved on.
Anthony seemed taken aback by my outburst, and I noticed his eyes changing from dark blue back to their original blue color. Hannah's eyes normally change color like that whenever I am with her, especially when she is happy or angry. I kissed Liam on his lips to prove a point before walking away fulfilled, the look on his face was enough satisfaction for me.
