Chapter 5
The next day, the three of them finished their breakfast and went to the company they had chosen.
In the car, Emily was still reading about the company's information. DreamKids was a subsidiary of the Scott Group. They focused on children's clothing.
Emily thought of the conflict with Derek last night and had second thoughts. But as she looked at Chris and Diane, she gave up the idea and didn't want to let them down.
'Derek is the head of the Scott family and must be very busy. DreamKids is just a subsidiary company, so, he won't show up today.' Emily comforted herself.
Looking at the huge office building in front of her, Diane was impressed.
"Chris, this place is so nice." Diane was so excited that her face turned red. She hugged Chris and kissed him on the face, showing that she was very satisfied with this company.
"Diane, you are already four years old. Don't kiss me like this." Chris wiped his face.
"Chris, I'm only four. Why are you always so serious?" Diane said mischievously and gave him another kiss. "I'll also kiss Mommy."
Emily crouched in front of Diane so she could kiss her.
"I want to kiss Mommy too." Chris also threw himself into Emily's arms.
"I love all the kisses from my babies." Emily hugged them.
The three of them kissed each other. Chris and Diane stopped kissing her till they had enough of it.
DreamKids' staff led them into the office. Soon, the managers showed up.
Emily suddenly got nervous as she saw Derek enter. They had a fight last night, so she was worried that he might refuse to sign the contract, which would hurt Chris and Diane.
Derek wasn't surprised and raised his eyebrow at Emily.
He didn't need to come over, but when he saw Emily's name, he changed his mind since he was curious about Emily.
After Derek came in, Chris got his attention because he looked very much like Aaron and Ian.
Diane looked at Derek and then turned to Chris. She wondered why Derek kept staring at Chris.
"Hello, I am Chris, and this is Diane," Chris said and looked at Derek calmly.
"Hello, Chris. I am Derek, the president of this company," said Derek as he nodded at Chris.
Now, he was curious about Chris and Diane's father and wondered why he didn't come.
Emily took out the contract and handed it to Derek.
"We need to make some changes in this contract. First, I will be Diane's stylist. I will be present every time she shoots commercials. Second, Diane's work needs our consent," Emily said.
Derek did not look at the contract. He turned to Emily and thought, 'This is the second time.' As the head of the Scott family, he was never rejected before. Unexpectedly, on the second day he met Emily, she rejected him again.
Since Derek was not looking at the contract, Emily was a little worried. Maybe they wouldn't sign the contract today.
"Anything else you want to add to the contract?" Derek asked. "I agree to add those terms to the contract. However, you're not entitled to choose the content of Diane's work, if the result from the advertising is below our expectations."
"Agreed. Please reprint the contract." Chris stood between Derek and Emily. He found that Derek's attitude toward Emily was a little strange.
Soon, Derek got the renewed contract. "Take a look again. If there are no problems, sign it." Derek placed the contract between Emily and Chris. Derek could tell that Chris was a very smart kid despite his young age, and would make his own decisions.
As Chris was reading the contract, Diane walked to Emily. The corn soup this morning was very delicious. Diane had two bowls of soup, now she felt uneasy in her tummy.
"Mommy, I want to go to the bathroom." Diane pulled Emily's sleeve with a faint voice. She was embarrassed since Derek was there.
"Stupid Diane, let me take you there." Chris quickly looked through the contract and handed it to Emily. "Mommy, here you are."
Then he grabbed Diane's hand and ran out.
Emily knew that Chris was a good brother to Diane and he was a smart boy, so she didn't need to follow them.
She read the contract carefully.
Chris took Diane to the bathroom, and then he waited outside.
Chris felt a little bored. He looked around and saw a little boy sitting alone in a room. The boy was very focused on writing something.
Chris knocked on the door. "Hello, I am Chris."
Aaron did not respond.
Chris opened the door and walked toward Aaron.
Aaron was playing number puzzles. He was good at it. Before Chris could finish reading the question, Aaron had already begun to solve the next one.
"Wait a moment."
Aaron was about to flip the pages when Chris stopped him.
"Can I try it?" Chris asked.
Chris was also interested in the number puzzles, especially after he saw Aaron solve them so quickly. Chris also wanted to give it a try.
"What are you doing?"
Meanwhile, another boy came in and pushed Chris away.
"Don't bully Aaron." Ian glared at Chris.
Chris gazed at Ian and somehow felt that they looked alike.
Diane came out of the bathroom and saw Ian pushing Chris. So, she got into the room too.
"Who are you? Do you want to fight?" Diane raised her little fist at Ian, though she was afraid deep down.
"Stupid Diane." Chris dragged Diane behind him and explained to Ian, "I just wanted to play with Aaron. I didn't bully him."
Ian was stunned. Did he misunderstand him?
At this time, Aaron paused and handed the book to Chris.
Ian was about to cry. Aaron spoke for the first time yesterday because of Emily. Today, Aaron shared his game with Chris. Aaron had never played with Ian before. Ian felt frustrated.
"Chris, Diane, what are you doing here?" Emily stood at the door.
"Mommy, have you signed the contract?" Diane held Chris' hand and ran toward Emily.
"Yes. I've been looking for you and Chris." Emily rubbed Diane's head.
Then Emily looked up at Aaron and Ian. "Aaron, Ian, are you waiting for Derek? Don't worry. He'll be here soon."
Emily was about to leave with Chris and Diane when she felt someone tug at her clothes.
She looked down and saw Aaron looking up at her. "Come home with me."
"Aaron, you shouldn't take a stranger home," Emily said gently.
Aaron's eyes reddened as he heard this.
Emily looked at Aaron and Ian. They both looked like they were about to cry. Emily suddenly felt the urge to hold them and comfort them.
Chris and Diane glanced at each other.
Diane pulled Emily. "Mommy, let's go back."
"Yes, let's go, Mommy." Chris pushed the door.
They pulled Emily away.
