Chapter 2

Scarlett

" Don't step out of the car," my father warned me without taking his eyes off the man who was approaching us.

" Dad?" I called him, gulping the lump that started to form in my throat. I am not a child to know that we are in the middle of a grave and dangerous situation.

He turned his head sideways to look at me with wide eyes and then his eyes softened. I stared at him in confusion only to realize that I called him dad after 11 years. I stopped calling him that when he started to torture me for no reason after finding his mistress.

" Scarlett, listen to me and listen very carefully. I know you have learned to drive and one of the servants helped you," he said, making my eyes wide. How did he know that? Nia begged me not to tell anyone that she was teaching me. Now that he knows, we are both in trouble. But I care for her more than myself.

" Don't be scared. I already told her to continue teaching her after I found out. Now, when I get out of this car, I want you to drive if they catch me and you see something unusual. Leave me here and do not stop at any cost, drive as fast and as far as you can," he said in a hushed voice.

" Why? What did you do? I won't leave here alone, ``I said. My voice shook at every word that I uttered and tears started to form in my eyes.

" Listen, they are very dangerous people and I don't want you to be caught by them. You are my only daughter and I don't want to lose you either. You will find everything in the bag," he said as she motioned towards the backseat of the car with his eyes.

" Dad," I said, my voice breaking at the end with so much emotion. I didn't know what else to say or ask at that moment. A loud knock on the car made us snap our heads toward the front.

The man was now standing right in front of the car with a smug look on his face. He motioned towards my father to come out with his head. I don't like his appearance. My father placed his hand on top of mine, making me look at him.

" I love you, Scarlett," he said.

" I love your mom," he said, as if he was seeing me for the last time. I tried hard to stop my tears but failed as a lone tear rolled down from my eyes.

" Don't be afraid, stay strong and stay away from the werewolves," he said and got out of the car.

I looked at him as he got out of the car and walked towards the man. Who was now wearing a stupid smirk on his face? The man started to say something to my father and his whole body went stiff. I started to shift in my seat as I watched both of them. I was prepared for what he told me before getting out of the car.

My father said something to the man in front of him, making his nose flare in anger as he looked at my father. I gasped when I saw his eyes flash colors. My father turned to me with a smile on his face, but I knew better his eyes were full of warnings and I shifted myself over to the driver's seat. I started the engine as my father mouthed me 'now'.

I turned the car as fast as I could and looked at my father one last time. I saw tears, guilt, and regret in his eyes. Tears started to fall freely from my eyes as I watched my father being dragged by that man. Many other men came out of the cars and that was the last thing I saw before I stepped on the accelerator.

Right now I need to get out of here and get help before they do something to my father. I wiped my tears away as I focused my attention on the road.

" Stay away from the werewolves," I couldn't wrap my mind around the last thing he said to me. I shook my head to clear my thoughts as I kept driving when my eyes caught something unusual in the tree line. I didn't slow down the car and kept driving when I took a glance.

I narrowed my eyes, trying to see inside the dark forest. Soon my eyes went wide when I caught glimpses of the wolves that were kept running with the car. One of them looked at me and somehow looked angry.

"Sh.it," I had to step on the brake when I saw one huge brown wolf jump right in front of the car a few feet away.

The wolf bared his teeth at me snarling, then I heard the howl of the wolves that made my blood run cold. I gulped, looking the wolf standing in front of the car in the eye. In the next second, the wolf jumped right out of the car. The only thing keeping me away from that wolf was the glass. And I knew it wasn't for him to break the glass.

The wolf growled, making the glass shake, and then the thing I was afraid of happened. He started to hit the glass with his paws. The glass started to crack and I knew it wasn't long before the glass broke.

I stared at the wolf while reaching to unlock the door. I needed to distract him before I escaped. I know I have a slim chance to survive tonight, but I won't give up that slim chance at any cost.

The wolf stopped smashing the glass for a moment when there was another grey wolf emerging from the forest and he looked at the grey wolf. The brown wolf stared too into wolf's eyes, which gave me a feeling that maybe they were communicating. Taking this as a chance, I slowly stepped out of the car and made my way toward the forest as fast as I could without making any noise. Once I entered the forest, I started to run. Then I heard the howl of the wolf and I knew they found out I had escaped.l

The moon shone brightly over my head, showing the path I was going. The howling of the wolves was coming close and my heart hammered against my chest. I almost forgot how fast they are.

My eyes started to burn with unshed tears which I blinked away. Then I saw the cliff. If there is a cliff, there should be a river, I thought mentally. I need to get into the water.

The sound of paws hitting the ground came closer. I turned my head slightly to take a look at how far the beast was when I tripped on a branch and fell on the ground.

The beast didn't give me a chance to get up as it jumped and landed in front of me. I looked at him and gulped as my life flashed before my eyes.

Then I remembered this was the same wolf that I saw in my dreams. Black fur with red eyes. I scanned him and it was the same. When my eyes fell on his face, I saw him licking his lips before he charged at me.

An ear-piercing scream left my mouth as he hovered over me and sank his teeth into my shoulders. I heard the sound of my bones breaking, the pain was so intense that for a moment I forgot to breathe. I knew I wouldn't survive and wouldn't see my father again if he was still alive. I had so many questions that I wanted to ask him.

" Asher," I heard a name before the darkness consumed me.
