Chapter 3: Reality

Zora's POV

'You are a werewolf' it kept ringing in my ears.

I didn't know what to do so I left the house that night. I needed space to think. I allowed my legs to take me far away from home.

The weather kept changing back and forth from rain, thunderstorms and lightning but I didn't care. I ran until my legs gave out when I got to the mountain. There were no tears left to cry. My throat was dry and I had no strength to move. I just sat down and rested my back on a tree.

The weather was a little bit calm now but the rain was still drizzling.

At that moment I remembered my dream. Was this what my dream meant… but what now. Did my parents abandon me.. ? That's the reason I had no childhood photos like Jay and Cassey.

I sat there for what seemed like hours thinking under the rain.

"Zoe" I heard someone whisper.

That voice sounded like Justin's. The sound of my name made me break into another round of tears. That might not even be my real name. I looked up weakly and standing right there was Justin in his black raincoat and boots. Holding an umbrella.

He looked scared. "Why are you here?" he asked gently. Coming closer until he got to me and held me in one arm. He shielded me from the rain using the umbrella in his other hand. The sob raked my body the more he tried to sooth me.

After about 10 minutes or so, I stopped sobbing and he carried me up gently forgetting about the umbrella walking back with me in his arms. I didn't know he was this strong. Though I have never been this close to him before I guess he hits the gym once in a while. His chest and arms were full of muscles. Thank God for the heat radiating off his body, I would have frozen before we got home. I was drained and my eyes were beginning to close.

" i'm glad I followed you" I heard him say before sleep enveloped me.

I groaned and moved from one end to the other. The rays of the sun was passing through a little opening from my curtain and directly to me.

I hoped it was a dream but when I opened my eyes I saw Justin. The events of the previous day started coming back one after the other.

"Are you okay?" Justin asked. "You have been out for three days," Julia chipped in.

"Three days?" I croaked with wide eyes. Julia left the room to bring me water immediately she heard my voice. I thanked her in my head, relieved.

"Yes," my mum said. I didn't even notice her presence until she spoke. I tried to look at her but I couldn't.

It wasn't going to be easy to find the right answer to all my questions but I will give it my all.

"I'm fine but I want to be alone for a moment." I told them after I finished the water Julia brought and returned the cup to her.

They nodded in understanding and left. Julia was hesitant "I would be downstairs alright" she said and left after giving me a comforting rub on my back.

I thought of what to do first.

Finding the man called Kenzi was first on the list. He holds great importance for the journey ahead of me.

I got off the bed and heard some funny sounds I guess came from moving my body after 3 days. I took my shower, changed and went downstairs.

I decided to be civil to my mum. After all, she did me a favor by taking good care of me all these years.

When I got to the last step, I noticed

Justin was gone, mum was sitting quietly going through her phone while Julia was playing soft music from her phone.

I felt like I was missing something important. I stood there for a few seconds trying to get what it was. Then it clicked my little brother.

"Where is Cassey?" I almost shouted startling both of them.

Julia's phone almost fell from her hand but she caught it effortlessly in a flash. 'That was ummm too quick' I thought.

They both looked back at me. My mum told me he was at Gary's place.

It's one of the places he loved to be. The Garys had two kids, both boys. They had everything a child could ever ask for. Starting from toys, bikes, games and every other thing you can think of that makes children happy.

I nodded at her with a small smile. I guess she stayed home because of me.

"Julia, let's go for a stroll before I become crippled from staying three days in bed." emphasizing the 'three' she smiled, shaking her head.

"It's nice to have you back," she said.

"Or you would be bored to death without me" she rolled her eyes " For someone who was out for a few days, you sure sound goofy." I just shrugged. There was no point dragging anything. I had to look fine to get what I wanted.

We strolled for just 10 minutes and returned. She left after she received a call stating an unknown emergency thirty five minutes later.

It was the late afternoon, I asked my mum about the man called Kenzi. She gave me details of everything she knew about him and werewolves.

No wonder she wasn't scared when she heard I was a werewolf.

I asked her to arrange a meeting with him. That made her smile. "You don't need to arrange a meeting," She said.

"He has always been around you ever since he found out you were his mate." That was news to me.

"Don't worry, he will be here tonight" she finished.

"Alright" I signed and left her room.

I was in the sitting room, when I heard a soft knock. His scent gave him away.

I got up and opened the door.

"Hi" he said in his deep calm voice.

"Hello" I replied and told him to come in.

Mum went to the Gary's to spend the night saying I needed space to sort things out between us.

From the moment I opened the door, Kenzi has been looking at me with all sorts of emotions, longing to be precise. He looked away immediately when I told him to make himself comfortable on one of the sofas.

It was unexplainable how I was attracted to a man I know nothing about.

I sat on the sofa opposite him and ignored the pull and temptation to sit close to him.

"Do you know who my real parents are?.. I asked him.

"Not really," he said but I'm sure you are my mate.

"Why did you call me Zora?" I pressed further.

"I just felt the name belongs to you" he said looking away this time.

"I need your help to find out who my parents are and why I am here" I pleaded.

"Ofcourse I will do anything for you," he said warmly. My heart melted at those words.

His gray eyes reflected the flecks of blue looking up close. Wait, the wolf. I thought

"Are you connected to the wolf I met a few days ago?” I asked standing up.

"That was my wolf but I can't explain what happened that day" he said, visibly confused.

"I need a favor from you" He looked straight into my eyes. The confusion was gone.

"Please come with me to my pack" he said. I'm sure I look confused.

"Your life will be in danger if you stay here" He said helplessly.
