Chapter 6 Give Me Back the Card

Eloise froze. She never expected Cecilia to say something like that, or maybe she felt guilty herself.

Cecilia looked at their linked arms, "Ms. Thorne, do you think you're more suited to be with my fiancé?"

Dominic quickly pushed Eloise's hand away.

Eloise could only smile awkwardly, " Ms. Lockhart, I didn't know you would be at the party. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding."

"Are you saying I'm not generous enough?" Cecilia raised an eyebrow.

Just as Eloise was about to defend herself, Cecilia bluntly said, "From the moment we entered the ballroom until now, you've been clinging to my fiancé. You're asserting your dominance over me."

Eloise didn't dare to argue; she could only keep explaining and apologizing, "Ms. Lockhart, don't misunderstand. I'll be more careful next time."

Cecilia chuckled lightly but didn't respond.

Seraphina, standing nearby, was genuinely stunned. 'Was this the Cecilia she knew? So assertive!'

She had once warned Cecilia that Eloise was a bitch, always sticking close to Dominic with obvious ill intentions. But Cecilia had brushed it off, saying she trusted Dominic. Seraphina thought Dominic was indeed quite nice, so she left it at that.

However, she couldn't stand Eloise, who, relying on her looks and her prestigious university degree, had become the assistant to the general manager of the Kingsley Group at a young age. Eloise always put herself in a very high position, often subtly mocking them, implying that they were just lucky but in fact, they are useless.

At this moment, seeing Eloise being publicly reprimanded by Cecilia, Seraphina felt extremely satisfied!

"Cecilia," Dominic suddenly spoke, taking her hand proactively.

Cecilia felt a bit resistant inside but ultimately held back.

"I didn't expect you to come today. I'm very happy." He didn't mention her scolding Eloise at all.

He didn't say a good word for Eloise, nor did he explain why he let Eloise cling to him.

Dominic was always good at avoiding the main issue.

Cecilia wisely held her tongue. She had already embarrassed Dominic by scolding Eloise publicly. Being too aggressive wouldn't be beneficial for what she planned to do next.

"Let's go. I'll take you to meet my parents. They must be eager to see you." Dominic smiled slightly, always so gentle.

Cecilia nodded and told Seraphina before linking arms with Dominic and walking into the banquet hall.

A handsome man and a stunningly beautiful woman inevitably draw everyone's gaze.

"Cecilia truly deserves to be called the most beautiful woman in the Yakurosean Empire. I thought it was just a rumor."

"She rarely appears in public. This is my first time seeing her. I thought she might not be that pretty and was afraid of being embarrassed, but I underestimated her."

"I used to think Cecilia wasn't good enough for Dominic, but now it seems Cecilia might even outshine him."

Those murmurs also reached Cecilia and Dominic's ears.

Back then, because Cecilia rarely attended these events and Dominic was good at showcasing himself, people in Serenovia City thought she wasn't a match for Dominic.

Hearing these voices now, Dominic naturally felt displeased.

He always liked to place himself at the highest position, couldn't stand anyone speaking ill of him, and couldn't tolerate anyone surpassing him, not even Cecilia. However, he was good at disguising, and no one could see through him.

The two walked up to Dominic's parents and greeted them proactively. Cecilia used to genuinely believe that the Kingsley family treated her sincerely, always showing concern and taking good care of her. It wasn't until much later that she discovered their true intentions: they were just trying to gain her trust to swindle her family's assets.

She masked her emotions and socialized with the Kingsley family. The banquet hall was bustling with people coming and going. As one of the four major families, many people sought to curry favor with the Kingsley family. Gradually, Cecilia walked away without a trace, her departure so discreet that Dominic remained oblivious to her absence.

She used to think that his neglect was excusable because he was so dedicated to his work. She used to constantly make excuses for him...

Cecilia turned and walked towards the back garden. She indeed didn't like overly crowded places; she felt much more relaxed as soon as she reached the back garden.

But at that moment...

"Ms. Lockhart." A sudden voice startled her.

She turned her head and saw a man emerging from the darkness. He was dressed in a cool gray suit, a white shirt, and a silver-gray tie. The unique cut and color, combined with his chiseled and deep features, made him drop-dead gorgeous even at first sight.

Cecilia subtly shifted her gaze and asked, "What are you doing here?"

"I was waiting for you, Ms. Lockhart." The corners of Alaric's pretty mouth turned up.

What was he waiting for her for? And how did he know she would come to the back garden?

"Is there something?" Cecilia asked calmly.

"Give me back the card!" Alaric said bluntly.

Cecilia's expression changed slightly. She really couldn't place too much hope on him.

She said, "Aren't you always generous with women?"

"So, Ms. Lockhart, are you hinting that you are already mine?" Alaric smiled wickedly.

At that moment, his handsome face leaned in, exuding an intimidating and dangerous aura.

Cecilia stepped back.

Alaric laughed a dangling smile.

"Shameless," Cecilia said irritably, "The card is at home. I'll return it to you next time!"

With that, she turned to leave. In this new Chapter of life, she had a clear purpose and no intention of wasting time on leisure, so she needed to learn to socialize.

At that moment, she saw Dominic coming out of the banquet hall. It seemed he had just noticed her absence and had come out to look for her. When he saw her, his expression was visibly displeased. He probably thought it was only natural that she should stay quietly by his side whenever he was doing something.

However, in the next second, he instantly transformed into his usual refined and elegant self. He spoke gently, "Why did you come out alone? I was worried when I couldn't find you."

"I felt a bit stuffy, so I came out for some fresh air. I was just going back," Cecilia said with a faint smile.

"Next time, let me accompany you." Dominic affectionately pulled her into his embrace.

Cecilia felt a bit uncomfortable, especially under Alaric's unsettling gaze. She couldn't exactly pinpoint what it was about his look, but it gave her a sense of guilt.

Clearly, they were just in a cooperative relationship.

Dominic also noticed Alaric's gaze. He remained courteous and even extended his hand in greeting, "Mr. Whitaker, what a surprise to see you here. It's been a while."

Alaric glanced at Dominic but ignored his extended hand. He walked past them coldly and proudly, dropping a comment, "Mr. Kingsley, your fiancée is quite the beauty. Better keep a close watch."
