Chapter 2 Beginning Co-living

Looking at the marriage certificate handed to him, Remington had only one thought, "It's quite troublesome to get a replacement if it's lost, give it to me when I divorce her."

Charles smiled dismissively, "After a year? Maybe you'll thank me then, I found you a good wife who is hard to find even with a lantern."

Not wanting to continue arguing about this meaningless topic, Remington didn't say anything.

He went upstairs.

...

After returning to the company, it was already lunch break. Sophia looked for her best friend, but couldn't find her. Instead, she ran into her best friend's husband, who blocked her in the office.

This was the first time Sophia was alone with Connor in this month. Connor looked guilty in his eyes and couldn't hide his feelings for her.

"Sophia, I'm sorry for being impulsive that day. But I really like you, I can't deceive my own feelings."

Not wanting to make a big scene and fearing that someone might hear them passing by the cafeteria, Sophia suppressed her anger. Otherwise, she wanted to beat Connor up.

She lowered her voice and asked mockingly, "Connor, what do you like about me?"

Connor didn't think twice and said, "You are capable, independent, dressed with taste, and very charming. But Lilly doesn't even wear makeup or take care of her hair, she lacks ambition and becomes more and more out of touch with society, increasingly resembling a frumpy old woman. I have no interest in her at all, Sophia, it's you who occupies my heart now..."

Outside the door, Lilly heard Connor's words loud and clear...

Sophia had no idea that Lilly was just outside the door.

At this time, everyone had gone to the canteen for dinner.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have let Connor say such disgusting things to her.

She was extremely angry.

"Connor, Lilly just gave birth to your second child. Are you being fair to her?"

"That's the reason for her not wearing makeup or taking care of her hair?"

"Do you think she has any time for herself, considering she takes care of your two children, the older one going to primary school, picking them up every day and tutoring them, while also breastfeeding the younger one and taking care of your parents, even serving your sisters? How much time does she have for herself?"

"If it weren't for marrying you and having children for you, with Lilly's abilities, she could have become a tastefully dressed, charming and powerful woman. And you dare to complain about her?" Sophia was furious to the point of wanting to kill Connor.

"She would have had children regardless of who she married." Connor not only felt no guilt, but also justified his actions. "It's her own fault for not taking care of herself and not striving for improvement. How can you blame it on me?"

"Slap!"

Sophia couldn't hold back and slapped Connor hard across the face.

For a moment, Connor didn't even react.

"Connor, even if you weren't Lilly's husband, I would never be interested in a man who doesn't know his own worth. No, you don't even deserve to be called a man. You are nothing more than an animal."

"You better redirect your thoughts back to Lilly, otherwise don't blame me for being impolite to you." Sophia didn't want to spend a single moment more with this despicable man, so she opened the door and left.

Behind her, the man who had been humiliated by her started to hold a grudge in his heart.

In a hidden corner outside the door, Lilly was already in tears.

When everyone returned from the canteen one by one, Sophia still hadn't seen Lilly.

She first distributed the wedding candy and informed everyone about her marriage, but she didn't have any plans for a wedding banquet at the moment.

Busy until late in the evening, it was only when Remington called that she stopped.

"Are you off work?"

Sophia didn't know it was Remington on the other end of the line, but she recognized his voice, "Mr. Waverley?"

It wasn't that her memory was good, but Remington's voice was distinctive, and deep and beautiful.

"Yeah. It's me," Remington said, "I'm outside your company, just come out when you finish work."

Sophia was also preparing to leave work and go home, "Then wait for me."

After hanging up the phone, Remington got off a Rolls-Royce, "Peter, drive the car back."

"Yes, Master Waverley," driver Peter replied respectfully.

Remington's voice was deep, "In the future, you are not allowed to call me Master Waverley in front of my wife."

"Understood, Master Waverley. But do you really not want me to accompany you inside?"

"No thanks."

Initially, in order to save rent, Sophia ,Connor and Lilly specifically rented the company in Shantytown in Opulence.

Just one street away from Shantytown was the bustling commercial center. This is a characteristic of Opulence City.

Remington waited outside Poor Smith Street for a few minutes.

The hustle and bustle of ordinary developers and vendors, the hustle and bustle of people coming and going, made him a little impatient.

His unique temperament also did not fit in here.

When he saw Sophia, he walked up to her.

"How did you find your way here?" Sophia remembered that she didn't tell him that she had an office here.

Remington didn't answer, but went straight to the point, "The small company I started went bankrupt, the bank seized my house and car. I have nowhere to live now, can I crash at your place?"

Sophia had a moment of reaction, "But everything was fine this morning, right?"

Remington calmly lied, "Something happened just this afternoon."

Sophia still couldn't fully accept it.

How come he didn't mention these things before they got married?

Remington continued, "And also, I am temporarily short of money. Can I borrow $100,000 from you, if it's convenient?"

If it wasn't for Charles' insistence that he move into Sophia's house in this way, he wouldn't have lied, let alone borrow money from a woman.

Actually, he couldn't care less about Sophia's character, as it had nothing to do with him.

But Charles insisted on playing this game, as if purposely proving to him that Sophia is a good woman. He had no choice but to follow along.

He was waiting for Sophia to refuse.

After all, any normal person wouldn't accept a husband who had just gotten married in the morning, suddenly going bankrupt and coming to her for help, even asking for money.

Sophia didn't immediately answer.

Apart from being astonished, she was mostly frowning, feeling deceived. Remington silently observed her reaction and smiled inwardly. She definitely couldn't accept this marriage.

As long as she refused, he wouldn't have to live in her house.

Perhaps she could also accuse him of marriage fraud and ruin the marriage on the spot. Remington was extremely confident. In this way, there was no need to wait until a year later to divorce her. He could immediately free himself.

Sophia, who hadn't responded for a while, finally spoke up, "Why didn't you say so earlier?" But upon further thought, she realized that she had made the decision to get married herself, and Remington had not forced her. Even if he truly went bankrupt and had no money, she couldn't blame him. Moreover, they were now husband and wife. Isn't a married couple supposed to share hardships?

"Forget it, where's your suitcase?" This time, Remington was a bit slow to react. He furrowed his brows tightly, "Are you agreeing to let me stay at your place?"

After some internal struggle, Sophia decisively said, "You've fallen to the point of bankruptcy with nowhere to go. Can't I just have you stay?"

"If I go bankrupt, then so be it. I didn't marry you for your money in the first place."

"Since we're married, we're technically a family, and a family should be united. Come on, I'll take you to my place."

Remington, who appeared composed, was extremely shocked. He had already prepared himself for her rejection.

Furthermore, he intended to prove something to Charles with this, at least that the daughter-in-law he had taken a liking to wasn't as great as he thought. Now it seems that she really is, as his father said, an extraordinary woman. Remington really wanted to be rejected by her, so he decisively asked, "What about the $100,000?"

Sophia replied earnestly, "I still need to consider that matter."

$100,000 was not a small amount at all.

Remington said, "If you find it too difficult, you don't have to worry about it, after all, we've only known each other for less than ten hours."

Sophia said, "I'll give you my answer tomorrow morning." Thinking of something, Sophia hurriedly asked, "Mr. Waverley, besides bankruptcy, do you have any other debts?"
