Chapter 8 Back on Track

During the day, Lilly took Mia to school, in the afternoon she accompanied Mia to various tutoring classes after school, and at night she nursed Noah several times. Not to mention makeup, even a full night's sleep was a luxury. She thinks about her husband's flourishing career, Mia's talent, and her cute and lovely youngest son. No matter how hard and tired she was, it was all worth it. Until the day before yesterday, when she heard Connor say those words to Sophia, she realized how worthless her life had become. She didn't wear makeup all day, didn't take care of her hair, and had no ambition.

She was falling further and further behind in this society. She was a yellow-faced woman with no interest in her. She only thought about her best friend in her heart. Every word, every character, was like collapsing rocks, thunderously smashing Lilly, shattering her soul into crumbs. These two days, Lilly had blamed Sophia.

Why does Connor have feelings for Sophia? Why is it her best friend? So for the past two days, she didn't reply to Sophia's messages and didn't answer Sophia's calls.

However, after thinking and reflecting, Lilly regained her reason and clarity. How could she blame Sophia? It was Connor's heart that had the problem. Even without Sophia, there is Jane, Olivia, Emma. She almost lost her best sister because of pain and anger. Maybe Sophia suddenly got married because of Connor's harassment.

Otherwise, Sophia has been single for seven years. She had always been resistant to love and marriage. She wouldn't suddenly get married without even having a boyfriend. To some extent, it was also for her sake. She almost lost a good sister who truly cared for her.

"Sophia, I'm sorry. These past two days, I have been exhausted from taking care of the children and feeling a bit unwell, so I didn't reply to your messages. I even haven't properly congratulated you on your marriage."

Lilly's apology came from the bottom of her heart. She asked about Sophia's marriage with concern. Sophia casually mentioned the marriage, but she emphasized, "Are you feeling unwell? Have you seen a doctor?"

Lilly said she was fine and then said, "Sophia, having a good sister like you is truly a blessing that I have accumulated from my past life."

Otherwise, if it were another friend, faced with a handsome and flirtatious man like Connor, they would have long betrayed her.

"Lilly, why are you suddenly saying these? Do you have something on your mind?"

"It's nothing. I just feel very happy to have a good sister like you!"

The sisters looked at each other, both with their own concerns, but not saying anything to each other.

"Sophia," Lilly suddenly said, "I want to go back to work at the company."

"You have been focusing on your family and children all this time. I advised you to come back to work, or go to another company to find something to do. Wasn't that what you were reluctant to do?" Sophia found it suspicious.

"It's just that I suddenly want to go to work."

"Did you have an argument with Connor?"

"No."

Lilly didn't even have the energy to argue with Connor.

Even without him confessing his feelings to Sophia, the two of them had already lost any common topics a long time ago.

Every day, Connor would come home and only say that he was tired from work, then he would lie down on the couch, take out his phone, and prefer to laugh at his phone instead of helping her take care of the children, let alone share the housework.

If she said a few more words, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law, along with Connor, would attack her, saying that she was immature and didn't know how to be considerate.

They had fought and argued, but it was all in vain, and she only ended up exhausting herself.

Instead of wasting time and arguing with them, getting herself half dead with anger, she would rather silently finish the tasks and find a moment to rest.

Before they got married, Connor used to pamper her and be considerate of her in everything, but that had long disappeared in this fragmented married life.

Lilly never told Sophia about all this, and she didn't dare tell her family.

So, no one knew about her true married life, which had already become a complete mess.

She concealed her sadness and gave a faint smile, "Sophia, you're right. Women should have their own careers, their own social lives. They should first be economically independent individuals before taking on other roles."

After persuading her for so many years, she suddenly said those words as if she had a sudden realization. Sophia was very skeptical.

Did Lilly find out about Connor confessing his feelings? But she didn't dare ask.

If this matter was brought up, it would be a second blow to Lilly after the earthquake.

Sophia could sense something, but she didn't reveal it.

She looked at Lilly with sympathy and comfort. "Lilly, I knew it. You will definitely be able to become your true self again."

"I'm actually a little scared to return to the workplace. After all, I haven't worked for seven years and have long been disconnected from this society."

Lilly's fear was genuine, but she was also fearless in moving forward. "But I still have to take this step."

Otherwise, if one day Connor completely abandoned her, she would have no economic income, let alone provide a stable and happy life for her children.

In these past few days, Lilly also realized something. If you encounter an unreliable partner, you must awaken your own strength.

Thinking of something, Lilly said again, "Sophia, when the three of us established the company, the legal representative and the largest beneficiary of the equity should not have been given to Connor."

It wasn't at the point of completely falling out with Connor yet.

If they did fall out, Lilly was truly afraid that she and Sophia would end up with nothing in the end. Money cannot be obtained.

Sophia seemed to see through Lilly's thoughts, "Are you afraid of having a dispute with Connor and having a conflict of interests with him?"

Lilly thought this matter needed to be carefully considered, "I just said that, don't take it to heart. Sophia, don’t worry, if there really comes a day like that, I would definitely willingly bear the loss myself and would not mistreat you."

This matter had been worrying Sophia for the past two days. She became more and more certain that Lilly already knew about Connor's confession to her.

"Lilly!"

"Yeah! What's up?"

"Are you...?" Even straightforward Sophia couldn't find the words to ask.

"It's nothing!"

Some things are better left unsaid!

"I just think that your makeup isn't well chosen. I'll help you pick out a set later." Sophia touched Lilly's face. "There's a kind of natural makeup now, it looks very smooth and natural after applying, unlike now where you have flaws. I'll teach you."

"I really don't understand any of this now."

"It's alright, isn't there still me?"

Although the two sisters were hiding their own secrets, they chatted without any gaps. After chatting about some other topics, Lilly inevitably steered the conversation back to Sophia's husband.

The more Sophia avoided this topic, the more suspicious Lilly became. "Sophia, Connor said your husband's name is Remington?"

"Yes," Sophia took a sip of her coffee.

Lilly pondered for a moment as she stirred her cup. "That name sounds quite unique, not like an ordinary person."

There was something special about Remington. But Sophia couldn't put it into words.

"Before he went bankrupt, he might have had some success. But after going bankrupt, he became an ordinary person."

"Connor said he's very ugly?"

"Connor told you that?"

"Yeah."

"Haha!" Sophia laughed sarcastically. "Connor must be jealous. He's never seen anyone more handsome than him, and suddenly someone comes along and surpasses him. He must feel very unhappy."

Lilly pondered once again. No wonder Connor's expression was so gloomy when Lilly asked about Connor Remington. "Connor is like a campus star at school. How handsome must the person be to surpass Connor?"

"I'll arrange for you to meet next time, then you'll know."

"When will you arrange it? I'm just afraid that you'll marry someone randomly and not be happy."

"Why would I marry someone randomly? Remington is Mr. Waverley's son. I've known Mr. Waverley for seven years, and we've supported each other through difficult times."

"You still call him Mr. Waverley?"

"You know, it's hard for me to say the word 'dad,' I've hardly ever said it my whole life."

"Then you should change that."
