Chapter 3

It won't be overstating when we say Jacob had little to no sleep after Lisa's call. What could she have meant by wanting to see him face-to-face? That, he may have pondered on as Noemi slept peacefully. Jacob didn't have to wait for long before finding out what she meant.

He met with her at the exact time and place she picked.

"What is so important that you refused to let me know over the phone?" Jacob asked immediately, he didn't even bother to settle down.

It's - it's -," and Lisa began to cry.

"Jesus!" Jacob screamed out of frustration at being kept in suspense. "Tell me what it is I need to know."

"I feel so stupid now." Tears running down her cheeks. "I feel like a worthless person," Lisa again said.

"You are getting me all confused." Jacob was losing it. "Just be plain with me?"

"You are a jerk!" she suddenly turned on Jacob and began pushing him. "I hate you so much, I do." She began to weep extremely.

"You used me, I hate you!" she continued to lament.

"I thought it was mutual to let whatever that transpired between us die?" he asked her.

"That's not my problem right now." She said sobbing.

"What did I do to you?" Jacob asked in confusion but she kept on hitting him.

"Talk to me please," he said to her. He held her by her arm, trying to Calm her down.

She pulled herself out of his grip:

"Let me go, you animal!" she said with spite and rage in her eyes.

"Please what is going on?" he tried to hear from her the reason for the dramatic display.

"See for yourself," she said and handed an envelope over to him. "Open it!" she added.

"Okay, okay." Jacob couldn't wait to see what was inside, to get to know what incited her to act the way she did. He opened the envelope and saw a piece of paper inside.

"What is this?" he asked.

"Just open it!" she screamed.

He froze immediately after opening and going through the contents of the paper. His eyes turned red immediately because he was aware of the implications of what was written on that Paper.

"Are you not going to say anything?" Lisa questioned him in an irritable voice.

"You are - You are pregnant?" he stammered first before completing his statement.

She began to weep after he asked that question. But who was he to ask? He should have thought about the consequences before doing what he did.

"What do we do?" she questioned Jacob. He could not even mutter a word. Jacob was just frozen with his eyes fixated on the pregnancy test result.

"What do you intend to do?" Jacob finally said after his few minutes of silence.

"I'm going to keep my child!" she firmly said, looking him straight in the eyeball. "I hope you do not ask me to abort the child."

"You want to keep it?" he questioned shockingly. It's not that he was pushing for her to have an abortion but he was just worried about Noemi finding out.

"What if Noemi finds out about all of this? What are we going to do?" It was easy for Lisa to perceive the fear and tension his voice carried. Even his eyes were evident enough.

"What are we going to do?" Lisa repeated his question. "Did you say we?" she asked again.

Jacob didn't know if the questions she asked warranted an answer of any kind.

"There is no we in this," Lisa said. "You are the only one answerable to Noemi, I am not," she concluded.

Jacob thought carefully about it. Maybe she could just keep the child a secret. He wasn't so sure that the medications Noemi was taking were going to have any positive impact. He needed to make sure he had an heir who would take after him. In a mini-second, over a hundred thoughts crossed his mind.

"I should let her keep the baby as insurance that I already have an heir." He thought to himself, all these in just a mini second.

"Come on, say something to me." She pushed him a bit.

"Okay, you should keep the child." He responded like she knew he would. "But please keep this a secret from Noemi, I beg of you." Jacob was not ready and never will be to lose the most important person in his life - Noemi.

"Okay, that's a deal." Lisa agreed to keep the child's true identity a secret. "And what do I gain from all of these?" she asked Jacob.

"I'll make sure the needs of your unborn child," Jacob paused after Lisa glared at him. "I'll foot the bills of the needs of our unborn child," he rephrased. "Even yours, now and when you finally give birth to him."

"Okay," Lisa happily agreed. Jacob was relieved. At least the secret would be safe for a while, even if he knew it may not be forever.

"I have to be on my way now," Jacob said to Lisa.

"Won't you want to celebrate the pregnancy of your future heir with me?" Lisa asked him.

"I told you that it was just a mistake," Jacob said. "I'll Never do that again, I'll never betray Noemi again."

"Whatever," Lisa said to him. She stopped him again when he tried to leave.

"What is it this time?"

"You should at least give me something to celebrate alone since you are not going to celebrate with me," Lisa said.

"Fine." Jacob wired her four thousand dollars.

"Thanks, baby," she tried to kiss him but he drifted away from her.

"Hello," Lisa said to someone over the phone immediately after Jacob left.

"You know the next step." The person on the other end said to her.

"Yes, I do," she smiled deviously before ending the call.

Was Lisa who she projected herself to be or was there more to her getting intimate with Jacob?
