Chapter 6: Newlyweds' Effect
Chapter 6: Newlyweds’ Effect
Zaren Valkyrine was a powerful man ever since he took the Duchy of Valkyrine. There was a little step back since he was a young child managing their territory but thanks to his efforts and the people around him, everything slowly turned steady.
Since I became Amari, there were things I noticed. My Uncle forced me to train since I had two affinities, and though I was not sure why he desperately wanted to use me to kill people, I still obliged because I had no choice.
Just like what he said I was a woman and in this era, women are useless. The situation wouldn’t be any different if one possessed great magic, women were always unequal of men. Hence, I dare not make any mistake while I worked for him since I was also aware that he may be one of those people who attacked my parents. Amari’s parents were strong opponent unless they did something dirty such as make them drink Pills that could drain their magic.
That conclusion might be impossible, yet one cannot underestimate your enemy, so I held my standing and came this far. I couldn’t back down just because I saw a face that was exactly just as Zhiven. I had no proof that he was Zhiven, and even if there was, there will be hindrances before I even have my hands on it.
Before Amari’s parents were killed, they were the ones who helped the late Marquess of Valkyrine kill the Demon in the Northen Mountains which was futile because the manpower was lacking. Amari’s parents suffered so much then that they were even bedridden for a whole month while Amari was anxiously waiting for them to wake up. Then, coincidentally, my Uncle, who never visited them, appeared before them and started forming friendship between them. As Amari’s memories weren’t vivid, I could only make out that Uncle had a reason for appearing so sudden.
The reason why Amari’s parents died isn’t that simple since even the present Emperor sent them off peacefully when they were one of the people he trusted on.
Going back to Zaren, as I don’t know anything between them two, it was hard to determine what their relationship was like, not that I know of what Amari and Zaren’s parents were like. Based on how Zaren called her so sweetly, they were probably childhood sweethearts.
On the other hand of the truth is a hard pain I must accept that was why I knew that discovering Zhiven’s and my child’s location would be near impossible as I had been finding them for a decade.
Unsteadily, I opened my eyes as I felt pain in my lower back and abdomen, adding my chest and arms- basically my whole body ached. One pain led to another, making it big. Clearing my vision, I opened my eyes and was greeted by the cream curtains inside the big bedroom. Seeing this bedroom in broad daylight fascinated me.
It was beautiful unlike my bedroom in Inlan’s residence- hard and uncomfortable. I guess people like Zaren preferred soft beds, too. I gritted my teeth and could barely lift my hand to cover my eyes. Mornings are always so bright, but I prefer the darkness. As I wanted to rest more, I realized that I am a worried woman, who has a different identity and responsibilities. On top of that, married the Living Demon- Zaren Valkyrine.
I couldn’t believe how he got all out last night, I forgot to count how many times we did it. At least, he was still a man, who has desired. I assumed he wouldn’t want to touch me, or even another woman then again people are different.
Having decided, I slowly sat upright and yawned. I feel like I want to rest for longer because of the pain, but I don’t want to be leisurely.
“You’re awake.”
I heard a calm voice reached my ears and I instinctively turned to look at Zaren. I watched as he ruffled his hair and took a deep breath. He cast me a glimpse.
“You can take the whole day resting.”
I smiled, “It’s fine. I can stand up.”
“I doubt that.”
“….”
Of course, it was you who tired me up. You should know! I shifted my eyes from him and covered myself. As I looked down on my body, I could see red spots all over. I am seriouslymarried.
“Your Grace.” I called for him to which he looked at my way.
I put my head down, “… Nevermind. Can we talk about our conversation last night for another day? I don’t think my head was still functioning as of the moment. If it does not matter to you so, that is, Your Grace.”
Casually, he grabbed my neck and planted a peck on my forehead, “That is all right. Whenever you want, feel free, wife.”
Strangely, he likes giving me pecks, even last night. Zhiven and him were just terribly likewise in that matter. I am well mindful I shouldn’t be thinking of my late husband, but I just couldn’t stop, I am being reminded of him to every smallest thing.
He let go of me, then took my wrist. On it, there was a red spot. Ah, that must be when he was holding me with such strength last night.
“Let me put on some ointment.”
I pulled my wrist back, “Your Grace, don’t bother. I am accustomed to it.”
He calmly picked up the bathrobe on the floor and rummaged to every drawer until he found the first aid kit. He just won’t listen to me, will he? He sat near me, and placed my wrist on his lap, putting ointment.
“Your Grace. You’ve seen my body; I have a lot of scars on my back, too. This red stain will disappear.”
He froze for a moment before resuming, “Some scars should be cured.”
“… Are you pertaining to something else, Your Grace?”
He then directly looked at my eyes and responded, “As your husband, I should be attentive towards you. Fret not as I don’t have hobby of having other women by my side.”
I frowned with a tilt of head, “But I am your enemy, Your Grace. Why can’t you overlook trivial things?”
“Enemy or not, you’re my wife. Do you intend on harming yourself, putting more scars than you have now?”
I then focused my eyes on his chest, faintly touching it. Then I said, “Your Grace, you also have scars, so why are you saying such things?”
Zaren lifted my hand and planted a light peck on the back of my palm, answering hesitantly, “I’d rather have them than seeing them on my wife’s body.”
Indeed. A woman’s body must be slender, petite, and even the smallest scar must not occur. Unlike to those beliefs, my body was entirely different. As I touched the recent scar on my chest, I couldn’t help but wonder that I should have taken care of my body more. Despite that I was training and all for my goal, I shouldn’t have neglected my body- I am still a woman, after all.
Suddenly, I felt down.
“My body… is not flawless, it’s rough, actually. Anyhow, compared to you, Your Grace, my body is cleaner.”
He let go of my hand and returned to where he got the first aid kit and lightly tilted his head with a calm expression. His face and mind were unreadable because of his nonchalant expression. I wonder what he thinks of me now.
“Don’t further hurt yourself, it’s painful to see that a woman like you suffers like this.”
“Your Grace, to accomplish something, you must sacrifice. If it displeases you, we can put on our contract that physical relations must be forbidden between us.”
“Having scars doesn’t mean we should prohibit being intimate. Didn’t you just promise you’ll do your duty?”
I was baffled. Why would he want to touch body like mine? My face might be gorgeous but my back, compared to other ladies, was hideous. Although I could say that it wasn’t frightening to look at, still, having scars only meant that a woman discarded her body- which was her dignity.
“I did, only if you’re willing.”
He lifted the bathrobe I was wearing last night and spoke, “Let’s include, rather, that you must be careful of your body.”
I smiled, “Likewise, Your Grace. Please bear that your body is important too.”
He tugged his lips upward, “You really amused me, wife.” He then placed his hand on my head and patted it, adding, “If that’s what you want, it shall be, then.”
“Thank you, Your Grace.”
Zaren extended his hand towards me, asking with a gentler gaze, “Shall we take a bath, then?”
“… B-Bath?”
Are we not done yet on physical relations?!
Without another word, he lifted me up with a sly smirk, “You’ve been distracting me, be responsible for it.”
“Y-Your Grace…!"
