Chapter Twelve:A Pleasant Night

Carina's POV

Yes, I was thinking when I said what I said. I knew exactly what that meant—well, not exactly, but I said it anyway. Yes, I was not supposed to trust Cora because her predecessors were Omega hunters and killers, and she was currently a beta killer who had likely killed Anderson. But have you ever heard the saying, "Keep your friends close, your enemies closer?"

"I don't train people. Meet Linda; she will train you", Cora said.

More like chew me up if she has a chance.

"Uhm, I was given a trainer already, but I want to learn more", I said.

"What is your name?", she asked.

"Carina", I replied.

"Beautiful name", she said, and I neatly rolled my eyes. What was this? Is there some way to deviate from the main topic? "Who is your trainer?"

"Charlotte", I replied.

"Oh, that Beta who got angry with her family for always treating her like a piece of sh*t, so she decided to leave the real packs to join the free packs? Oh, I know her", Cora said, picking up the flower in front of her and placing it at her side.

You may be wondering what other reason I wanted Cora to train me aside from trying to figure out if she killed Anderson and learn some skills from her. Another solid reason was because she was an oversharer, and it was easier to get information from her even if I knew better than to believe everything she said.

"Oh, you are serious about me training you?", Cora asked. Apparently, she thought I was joking and was surprised to see that I was sitting silently, waiting for her to accept me as my trainer.

"Yes, I am", I replied.

"Hmm, like I said earlier, I don't train anyone, especially if I sense that they aren't strong enough", she said.

I tried hard to breathe normally and not explode. She had indirectly referred to me as 'weak' but I was not going to let it deter me at this point.

"But since you are so serious about it, I could offer one-day training, but it won't be for free", she added.

"What is the cost?", I asked, trying hard not to sound too excited.

On my way back to the room, I thought about the price Cora had mentioned. So she wanted tulips that grew only on the real pack's side of the city, which meant I would have to leave the free pack's territory just to get tulips. I could sense that she stated that sort of price so that I would change my mind about the training. She was surprised when I agreed to still go to get the tulips. She knew I was putting my life in danger going where I was evidently hated, and she knew that I would not tell anyone or else I would be stopped and I would not get the training from her.

"Hey", Christos said. I had not noticed he was in front of me because I was lost in thoughts, thinking of a way that I would get the tulips.

"Oh, hey", I said back to him. We had not spoken since that night. What was he doing here? Did he want to be rude to me again?

"Is anything the matter?", he asked.

Caring much?

"Huh? No. Nothing is the matter", I answered instead of saying, 'Hell yeah. I want to be trained by the strongest beta from the free packs, who could have killed Anderson, my only lover. So I plan to train with her; and seem revenge, but she told me she would only train me for a day if I got her tulips, which grew in the part of the city where the real packs lived, and I am going to get them tonight.'

"Okay. Uhm, I owe you an apology. I should not have acted the way I did the other night, I am sorry", he said, handing me flowers that I had not noticed that he held before. I tried not to frown at the flowers. It would have been great if they were tulips so that I would not have to go to the other side of the city. Mind you, it was not because I was afraid of them; I did not think I was ready to face them yet.

"Do you like them?", he asked, and I realized I had not collected the flowers from his hand.

"Oh yes, there are very beautiful lilies,", I said, collecting the flowers from him, faking a smile, and hoping that he would not notice that I very much did not appreciate his flowers. Don't get me wrong, I loved his gesture; his apology was very much accepted, and the flowers were really cute, but it was triggering considering the fact that the last person who gave me lilies was Anderson, and now he was dead. Also, the flowers did not serve the purpose I would have loved them to serve, as there were not tulips. What business did Christos have giving me these pretty lilies anyway? He had a wife or mate!

"I am glad you like them. I will, uh, try to be more open to questions from now on," Christos said.

'You had better!', I shouted in my head, and luckily that did not escape my lips.

"I have to attend to business later. Have a pleasant day ahead", he said, walking away.

And a pleasant night, apparently.

I turned to my left to see Limda walking past me. She was a bit far to touch me or anything, but not too far to not be able to see me. She waved when she saw me, and I waved back. Could it be that Christos spotted Linda, got uncomfortable, and left? I shook my head and walked to my room. I was not going to get myself involved in a pointless drama.

Night finally came, and when I was sure that everyone was fast asleep, I snuck out, dodging the few werewolves that were in sight. I was happy the security was not so tight this night and was about to step out of the free-pack territory when someone called out to me.

"Hey you, don't move!"

Shoot! I turned around to see who it was, and the face was not a familiar one.

"Who are you?", he asked.

I was supposed to be asking the same question.

"A member of the free pack,", I replied.

"Then why are you stepping out of our territory at this time", he asked. I was tempted to make a joke by asking what the time was, but I knew better than to make a joke at this point.

"Cora sent me", I said.

"How do you know Cora?", he asked. Too many questions. I was not really a fan, but I knew that I had to answer.

"I know Cora through Linda", I answered, fingers crossed, hoping he would not ask any more questions.

"What is Cora's favorite flower?" he asked.
