CHAPTER FOUR: An Opportunity
Carina's POV
Another problem I had with the full moon was that it was impossible for me to sleep. I thought it would be different since I was locked up in a cellar, but it was not. I was restless throughout the night, walking back and forth in my true form. At least I had not tried to hurt myself that precious night. It was way easier to control myself in the cellar, but it was also uncomfortable and dark. I could not wait for morning to come so that Bella would get me out of here. She had promised to get me out by 6:30 a.m.
I paced back and forth throughout, waiting for 6:30 a.m.I did not bring a watch down with me, so I did not know what time it was.
Suddenly I heard a scream, and I knew immediately that it was Bella. It was the kind of scream someone screamed when attacked that made me start panicking.
I switched to my human form and tried opening the cellar door that was above me, but I could barely touch the door, let alone open it. Curse my height! Being 5"3 at this time was not helping at all. I jumped as high as I could, hitting the door as hard as I could, but it still refused to open. It was likely that Bella had locked me in here for fear of bursting out and hurting myself.
I tried screening, but I stopped when I remembered that all my screams would be futile. Bella had told me that it was impossible to hear screams from the cellar except in rare cases. Plus, I did not think it was wise of me to keep screaming and gigging at the door when I did not know the reason someone tried to attack Bella. I had to think of another way to save her, but the problem was: what do I come up with?
A few minutes into my thinking, the cellar door went open, and above me, I saw a werwolf, in human form but with her teeth out, holding a very pale Bella by the neck.
"You should not have hit the cellar door so much", Bella said, although it was evident that she could barely breathe.
"Let her go", I said to the werewolf that I had never met in my life before, although I knew at once that she was an alpha or Luna because of the kind of teeth she had. I was confused as to why Bella told me that I should not have hit the cellar door too much; I was trying to save her life, for goodness sake! And also, I had panicked.
"How do I get her out of here?", the werewolf asked Bella, tightening the grip on her neck, making Bella go whiter as she struggled for air.
"Let Bella go", I shouted, but the werewolf ignored me just like she had done the first time. That was extremely annoying. I hated when I was ignored, especially on serious issues. "How in the world do you want her to reply to you when you would happily kill her before giving her an opportunity to speak?"
The werewolf looked at me for a while before letting Bella go. "I don't need you anyway", she murmured, then started putting her hand into the cellar. "Come on, grab my hand. I need to get you out."
I wanted to bite her hand, but I knew that was not going to be good because she might try to kill Bella, and I did not have energy. So, I grabbed her hand, and she pulled me out of the cellar. Then, I rushed to Bella's side to see if she was okay, and thankfully she was.
"You need to come with me", the werewolf said.
"Just because you asked me to? I asked.
"Yes", she replied.
"Then no. I will not come with you."
"I will kill your friend."
"And I will kill you", I said, looking dead into her eyes.
She smiled. "You will fit. My name is Linda, and I know who you are. I know you are the last of your kind, an Omega, and I'm about to give you a once-in-a lifetime opportunity. Something you would really like, but you need to follow me", she said.
I did not understand what she meant by I will fit.
"How am I sure you don't want to kill me or lock me up because I am an Omega instead?", I asked. Linda started to laugh, and I wondered what was funny about what I said. Laughing when something was not funny or close to funny was irritating.
"I'm sorry for the laugh, but do you think if I had wanted to do any of the aforementioned, I would not have done it since?", Linda asked, and I had to agree with her; after all, she did look like a trained Luna.
"I want you to apologize to my friend before I follow you", I said, and Bella shot me an aggressive look. She was not happy with the deal I was about to strike. Yes, I did agree to follow a werewolf that happened to a stranger, if she apologized because I had nothing to lose, especially if following her would favor me. If it did not favor me, then I would die trying to escape; I did not mind. My life was empty without Anderson anyway.
"I apologize, Carina's friend; I think Bella is what I heard your name is. I was violent with you because you refused to tell me where your friend, Carina, was", Linda said.
I blinked thrice. This was unbelievable. A Luna was apologizing? That was not totally impossible, but it was rare, especially in cases like this. I began doubting if Linda was Luna.
I decided to push my luck a little bit more even though that was a silly thing to do. "I don't think Bella heard your apology, you should apologize again."
Bella looked at me like I had signed up for a death wish but Linda did not seem to mind. "I apologize Bella for being violent with you, I hope my apology is accepted."
This time both I and Bella looked at her shocked with our mouths wide open.
