CHAPTER FIVE: Free pack
Carina' POV
Bella was not able to convince me to stay with her even when she took me to a corner to explain that this could be a trap considering that I was a fugitive werwolf. A part of me did not want to follow Linda but another part of me wanted to follow just to find out what her aim was and the opportunity she wanted to give me. At the end, I followed Linda to wherever she wanted to take me. Wherever she wanted to take me was at Vinillus, the city I detested. I shuddered as we went into the city, but I noticed something: Linda took me to the part of the city that I had known all my life to be dangerous. It was this part of the city that caused me so much trouble; this part of the city that killed Anderson...
"Why are you taking me here? ", I asked.
"You will know when we get there", Linda said as she kept walking. I wanted to stop following her and just go home, but my legs were not cooperating with me. I still followed her till we got to a tall building. Werewolves saw me, but none of them gave me nasty stares, and I wondered if they knew that I was thrown out of the city by the werewolves I once called my family. They did not seem to be aware that I was boldly walking with Linda, or was it Linda's influence that made them not give me nasty stares?
We walked around the building, and before long we were in a big hall filled with werewolves that looked so much like warriors, stained with blood, all standing at attention like they were waiting for Linda's arrival or... No, they could not have been waiting for me, could they? If yes, what for? Was this how I was going to die? Lots of warrior-looking werewolves feasting on me? Well, Bella had warned me that this could be a trap, but I had not listened to her, and now it was too late to turn back.
We both walked up to a werewolf who was seated on a chair signing some papers and had not noticed us when we had walked in. I had never seen a werewolf do so much paperwork. I heard King Darius did most of the paperwork, but I had only met him a few times in my life, and when I did, he was not doing paperwork.
"Good evening, my love", Linda said, going to him, gently touching his shoulder, and planting a kiss on his cheek. I stiffened. What was this? Was this some kind of grand plan to make me feel jealous? Who were these two, anyway? I mean, I knew the female's name was Linda, but still, who were they?
"Good evening", he greeted me, briefly looking at me. There was a way he looked at me that was indescribable, but it sent shivers down my spine.
He cleared his throat, like he was trying to snap back into reality. "Hello, I am Christos, and you must be Carina."
Crap! I had stared at him too much and forgot to greet him. "Good evening. Yes, I am Carina. Now get on to the point and say what you have to say." I didn't mean to be exactly rude, but I did not like the way I felt about him.
"You are the last omega of your kind betrayed by your people, especially your mother", he said, looking straight into my eyes, but I was not going to let him intimidate me.
"I have no people. I was betrayed, and I do not associate with anyone anything that betrays its kind", I replied. "If I may ask, who are you? And why am I here?"
"Simple. You are here to avenge all those who betrayed you, and I am Christos, the leader of the free packs. I am sure you have heard one or two things about us already", he said.
"That you guys are evil", I said, and in my head I added, "and you killed my only lover." I gripped my shirt tight, trying to keep myself from saying things I should not say; if not, I may get killed.
'I thought you wanted to die', a voice said in my head, but I shut it up. Truthfully speaking, I did not want to die, and the topic of 'avenging' suddenly piqued my interest.
"Do you really believe we are evil or the 'real packs' are the ones that are evil", he said, stressing on the 'real', clearly letting me know he meant to use 'fake' instead. The real packs was where I was before, and the bad werewolves, as the werewolves of the real packs liked to say, were called the free packs.
"I don't care. It doesn't matter. You guys killed someone dear to me, so to me you are considered evil", I said. I wanted to turn around and leave; my legs were ready to do the work this time, but my brain was not; the word 'avenge' was already registered in it. This was my opportunity to become stronger and avenge all the people who hurt me and Anderson.
"I don't know who you are talking about, but whoever it is must have attacked us first because we don't usually strike first. We defend ourselves and grow like a team, as we should", Christos said.
I did not reply. I was not convinced, even though I wanted to badly hurt the cruel werewolves.
"Aren't you tired of living by the stupid rules of the real pack? Imagine them detecting you just because you are an omega. Imagine alpas can only marry alphas and do whatever they want; only selective betas enjoy privileges; and gammas are only meant for servant duty. You can do anything you want here. We are an open community that is fed up with living in chains. Don't you want to be free and strike back at the alphas and betas who think they are better than you?
