Chapter Six: Assistant

Conall's POV

I could not believe what was happening; even alphas, including Baldar, escorted me to King Darius. I mean, I would have easily fought the ten alphas, but I respected Baldar, and I knew better than to fight with him because he was really a strong alpha. I always wondered why he had not gotten to his primordial stage yet.

"So Connall, I have been hearing a lot about you these days, especially on the last full moon", King Darius said.

I stayed silent. I hated talking in general, and having to explain myself was a task I found extremely difficult, even in the presence of the King himself. I was simply not a fan of clearing my name.

"Aren't you going to say something?", King Darius asked. I remain silent. What did he want me to say anyway?

"I expected your silence. You have nothing to say to me because you are not a fit alpha", King Darius said.

That was it! "I do not believe so, King Darius. I am in fact one of the most fit alphas; as you know, I am strong and ruthless, and I fight in wars that come unscathed most of the time."

"But you are incapable of controlling your powers", King Darius said, raising his voice at me. "You're supposed to be like a father, training and becoming a strong and responsible alpha, probably getting to a primordial stage, protecting your packs."

"If my brother were here, you would not have been here telling me all this. It is because Christos isn't here. It is because he betrayed you and showed you he was not the good one you thought he was; that is why you are here lecturing me on how I am supposed to be like my father when you know deep down that you planned on giving that role to Christos", I shot back at King Darius, not bothering because he was sitting on his throne and could easily order that I be killed.

"You are deviating from the pressing issue at hand now, Conall, and I would like you to watch what you say", King Darius ordered in a dangerous tone, which did not faze me; instead, I smiled, a smile that did not reach my eyes, and I remained silent.

He called one of the alphas, whispering something to him. The alpha left for a few minutes, and later he returned with a lady, and without introducing her to me, I recognized her.

"No", I said immediately.

"You do not have a choice, Conall. You will not have a choice until you quit your recklessness," King Darius commanded.

"In this society, a lot of alphas kill; King Darius, you kill as well. How is my killing recklessness when only the strong are meant to survive?", I asked.

"Do not question me, Conall. You cannot control your powers, and I will not sit and watch you get consumed by them. From now on, Emily Tega will be your assistant, and whether you like it or not, she will be watching your every movement to make sure you do not get into trouble. She will also be your training partner. Let me also warn you that if you make things hard for her or try to kill her, she has the power to call on more alphas to beat you up, or, let's say, bite you up. Then I must give you a solid warning that if you kill her, I will personally terminate you in the worst way possible", King Darius started sternly.

I was infuriated. Why were King Darius and Baldar always in my business when they really did not like me from birth? They adored Christos for crying out loud! It was just a backup plan.

Angrily, I walked out of the place as fast as I could, but it was not long before I felt someone was following me. I knew who it was immediately, and with a sharp movement, I attacked her. I was faster, but she was smarter. By the time I held her neck, she had a knife pointed to my stomach,

"You should not be following me", I said, as calmly as possible. She had pretty eyes, but not nearly as beautiful as the Omega's eyes.

Why was I thinking about an Omega now? That weak girl is who I was thinking about. I felt that I should be ashamed of myself, even though I was not.

"I believe that I did not introduce myself properly to you, Conall", she said. She had the guts to speak when I did not want her to. I felt the urge to tighten my grip on her neck, not minding that she had a knife pointing to my stomach. King Darius' warning kept echoing in my head, and I knew that a little squeeze on her neck could end her, and that would mean my end as well. So, I let go of her neck, and she put down her weapon.

"I do not want you to introduce yourself. I do not care", I said, walking away. She was one of the thousand other girls I felt immediate hatred for just by looking at them. The only person I did not feel that immediate hatred towards was the Omega.

"I am Emily Tega, your new assistant", she said, still following me. She was getting me more annoyed than I was before.

I stopped working and turned to her. "I don't care. I do not accept you as an assistant. I did not NEED an assistant."

"But King Darius appointed me to be your assistant", Emily said, not giving up. I barely restrained myself from biting her.

"I'm trying to be as reasonable as possible, Emily—" I said, but she cut me off mid-sentence.

"Let us do it this way: after two days, we meet at the training ground and fight; whoever gets the other lying on the floor first is the winner. If I lose, I will plead with King Darius that I do not wish to be your assistant. If I win, you will keep your mouth shut and allow me to do my job", she said.
