Chapter Eight: Answers

Carina's POV

I half expected Baldar to react—at least shout the way he shouted at Dolores when she ran mad—but he did not. Instead, he shot me a very dark kook, which almost scared me, but I had to be strong even though he looked quite intimidating. Also, I noticed that every other werewolf that was seated looked at me like I had fallen from the skies. Both the members of the real packs and the free packs had an expression on their faces that clearly read, 'Did she just try to challenge Baldar?' They were surprised to see that I had spoken up for myself against Baldar, of all werewolves. I noticed a particular stare that made me feel awkwardly cold; the stare was from that arrogant alpha.

Christos started speaking about something else, which I assumed was the purpose of the peace meeting, but I could not concentrate because he, the arrogant and handsome alpha that I still did not know by his name, looked at me like he wanted to consume me in a not-so-bad way.

At the end of the peace meeting, I had learned nothing because of the stares I was getting from him. I mean, he was not the only one that kept giving me some awkward stares, but it was his stare that made me feel cold. The meeting ended peacefully later in the night, and I was surprised that it did considering the fact that there were many arrogant alphas and wicked betas present, yet there was no major fight.

When the free packs returned to the building most of us stayed in, I could not hold on to my curiosity any longer.

"Christos, may I have a word with you?", I asked, stopping him from walking with his wife. I needed answers to the questions that bothered me, and I needed them now. I knew that if I did not get answers, I would find it difficult to sleep.

"Sure", Christos said, his wife standing beside him.

"Alone", I added, looking at Linda and hoping that my eyes would do the apology.

"Oh, you want me to leave", Linda said, fake laughing, and without letting me or Christos utter a word, she left.

"So what is the issue?", Christos asked calmly, although it was obvious that he was not happy that I had pursued his mate away from him.

"Who is the alpha from the real pack that looks so much like you? Who is he to you? You both look very much alike, and although you both managed to not say anything to each other throughout the peace meeting, I noticed that you both kept shooting lasers at each other with your eyes", I said.

Christos was quiet for a while, probably surprised that I was observant. "We didn't shoot lasers", Christos said.

I knew he knew exactly what I meant and was trying to play dumb with me. "You know what I mean, Christos. Who is he? I sensed a really dangerous aura from him."

"Because he is dangerous", Christos answered curtly. He looked angry, and I had never seen him angry before. Wait, why was he angry?

"Is he your brother?", I asked.

"I think you should go to bed", Christos said instead of answering my question. Why was he making the question such a big deal? What was he hiding?

I decided to press further, not wanting to give up. "I need an answer right now. Who is he? At least tell me his name."

"Go to your room", Christos ordered me like I was a little child.

"I need an answer right now, or I'm leaving", I blurted.

Christos walked up dangerously close to me. "You wouldn't try it."

I did not reply. I tried to reply, but I could not reply. Why did Christos find it so difficult to tell me who that was? I wanted to kick him or at least say something really crazy, but I remembered Charlotte. She was friendly and liked me; maybe she would tell me who the arrogant alpha was? I made up my mind that if she refused to tell me, I would know there was something wrong with this place, not like I had not suspected that the moment I walked into this place with Linda that day.

I walked away from Christis and into the building. I could feel his eyes on me, watching me as I entered the building. I went straight to where Charlotte's room was and remembered that Christos had told me earlier that Charlotte was sick. 'Well, I'm sorry, Charlotte, but I am going to have to disturb you. I just need some answers to my questions', I said in my head. But when I went into the room, I found no trace of Charlotte. What was happening?

After a few minutes of checking every part of the room, I gave up and sat on her bed. I needed to calm down. Maybe I was overreacting by thinking Christos and the arrogant alpha had a deep connection, a grudge, or something. They were members of the opposite pack that hated themselves, and it was totally normal for them to be staring coldly at each other. After all, I was also getting very awkward looks from Baldar and other members of the real pack.

'Or maybe you are just too interested in this arrogant alpha and you are making up an excuse just to know who he is', my inner voice said in my head, and although it was correct, I shut it up.

Maybe I wanted to know who he was so that I could put him in his place and show him that the world doesn't revolve around him.

'But you are still very weak; you do not stand a chance against him, and you are lying to yourself; you don't plan on putting him in his place even if you have the opportunity to', my inner voice shoes in my head, and I shut it up once again.

Forgetting what I came to do in Charlotte's room in the first place, I got up and left, but once I got to my own room, I started feeling really weird. I started thinking about Bella. Well, there was nothing wrong with thinking about Bella because she was my friend, but then I had that uncomfortable and restless feeling I had when I was at the cellar that morning.

It was quite late and unsafe outside, but I did not care; I left immediately to find Bella. I had not listened to her when she told me that I should not be with the free packs, and I had still followed Linda. But that did not mean that I would not rush to save her once I felt something was wrong.
