CHAPTER 2
The following morning, Sheila woke up feeling like her head was hammered. How she got home she had no idea about. All she knew was that she had drowned her sorrows with beer last night. She had thought that she was okay but that was a joke. After last night, she realized how fucked up her life was.Who is Sheila Masons? She was a twenty one year old girl, a graduate from a recognized university in the country, State university. She majored in business management and administration. It was what her parents wanted her to be.
Of course, her adoptive parents, Mr and Mrs masons.Three years ago, she lost both her parents in a terrible road accident. They were driving home with their tricycle on a rainy day when an over speeding car crashed on them. They died on the spot. She Lost her parents on her eighteenth birthday.
Sheila had talked to her parents urging them to hurry back home and celebrate her birthday. Her parents owned a food store, that's where they earned their daily bread and managed to support their daughter. She was still waiting for her parents when the landline to the house rangrung and when she received the news, her face turned pale.
That had marked the turning point of Sheila's Life. To cater for the burial site and expenses, Sheila exhausted the little savings from her parents. One month later, she was kicked out of the house since she couldn't afford to pay the rent anymore. She ended up renting a single room downtown. That was enough for her considering she was alone and jobless. That was not the only challenge she faced, she had to pay her tuition fees at the
University alongside living expenses. She had to balance between attending classes and managing her two part-time jobs. At the age of eighteen, others only cared about attending college and living their youthful life but Sheila had to make ends meet while attending school. Life was hard for her.Sometimes she felt like giving up but still held on despite the lack of sleep, tiredness and Insults from her bosses.Sometimes she would sit alone and cry, hoping that her parents were still alive but she knew wishes were horses. They were gone, never to return again.
She lamented at her cruel fate but at the end of the day, she would piece herself and continue with the journey.Three years later and nothing changed. No stable Job, no better house, infact things seemed to have gone from bad to worse. It had been months since she started submitting her resumes to different companies but all in vain.
Nobody would hire a person without any working experience. She was a fresh graduate with second class honours in business administration and management but despite her having good papers, nobody was willing to hire her.
When she received a call and was invited for a secretary job interview, she was happy. Even though that was a low position compared to what she studied at the University, she was willing to accept the Job but what happened at the end? That scum turned out to be a bastard.Today was the same for her, she will be leaving and continuing job hunting. She didn't have any part time Job considering the last time she had slapped a customer at Mrs Hannah's dishes after she disrespected her.
Mrs Hannah had chased her away as if she was a stranger after she refused to apologise to that bratty girl.
Ofcourse, Sheila wouldn't tolerate anyone bullying her. She always fought back.Sheila dragged her tired body to her bathroom and had a quick shower. Today, she was planning on trying her luck with the Brown cooperation.
It was the biggest company in the whole country. It was diversified with hotel and restaurant chains, banks and other financial bodies, clothing lines, shopping Malls among others. It was widely known for its strictness in recruiting itsit's employees. The CEO, David Brown was rumoured to be a handsome bachelor who every woman dreamt of marrying.
Of CourseOfcourse Sheila paid the least attention to such matters. She was always interested in working at the Brown cooperation but that's it, she knew nothing about the CEO.It was Just not the CEO of Brown co-op, she was literally socially uninformed. Her friend Vee would always nag her about her ignorance but Sheila would just shrug her shoulders, saying that there's no way such prominent people will ever cross paths with her,so why bother about them.
Little did she know one day that her words would come biting her back.Dressed in her favourite black knee length skirt paired with a red blouse, Sheila donned her black flat doll shoes to compliment her looks.Although the clothes seemed cheap, they fit her well, giving her a regal beauty.
She was already a beautiful woman and needed no extra effort to look good.Picking up her purse and envelope with her certificates and application letter, she left for the company.
She didn't have breakfast, of course not because she wasn't hungry but because all she had left was a packet of instant noodles. She only had a twenty dollar note which could barely cater for a taxi to the city. Since she lived not too far, she decided to walk to the company.
After a twenty minute walk,Sheila was standing at the entrance of the Brown cooperation. She took a deep breath and walked in.At the reception, a lady who seemed to be slightly older than Sheila was typing furiously on the keyboard while making calls. Sheila waited until she was down before approaching her.
" Good day ma'am." Sheila greeted offering her best smile despite the hunger she felt." Good day miss, how may I help you?" The receptionist was kind and professional." I am here to submit my application for the post of assistant finance Manager." Sheila answered." Any working experience in the related field?" The receptionist asked.
" Not yet." came Sheila's reply. It was said that Brown cooperation only employed experienced workers, it seemed to be true from the first question she got. The next words from the receptionist however confirmed everything for Sheila." Am sorry but the company protocol states that only experienced personnel could proceed to the interview, am sorry." The woman said apologetically.Sheila was disappointed but what could she do? After thanking the lady, she turned back and left." It seems I have to look for a job as soon as possible. Otherwise I'll sleep hungry on the Streets." Sheila murmured to herself.
She was dejected. All efforts to look for a decent job were proving to be fruitless. She was getting desperate for a Job.
