Chapter 06 Making Elijah's Heart Flutter

Hearing Elijah's agreement, everyone in the private room became interested.

"Elijah is so straightforward!" Mason excitedly rubbed his hands together and neatly arranged the scattered cards.

Yvonne was clearly enjoying the show, while Philippe and Louis became more attentive, their eyes fixed on Mason.

The deck of cards was quickly split into five stacks and placed face down on the coffee table.

Mason asked Elijah to randomly pick a card from each stack.

Elijah followed the instructions.

Mason flipped over the two cards at the front and pondered for a moment. "Elijah, in the second half of the year, your career will see a small peak in both your main and side businesses. As for your love life..."

Elijah looked disgusted. "I don't want to hear any flattery."

"Cupid has been silent for five years but seems to be stirring again." Mason frowned at the red diamond he just revealed. "However, there might be another setback."

Yvonne thought to herself, "Did Elijah suffer from emotional setbacks before?"

Elijah suddenly became interested. "How severe is the setback?"

Mason revealed the last two cards. "Could be as light as a sprained muscle or as heavy as heartbreak."

"Oh!" Elijah said sarcastically, his tone mocking.

"You're just making things up, Mason!" Louis couldn't stand it and interrupted, "Grace doesn't make much of a ripple in Elijah's heart."

"But the cards do indicate that." Mason collected all the cards in his hands. "Would you like to try again?"

"No need to try again, let's continue playing cards." Elijah rolled up his sleeves, revealing a muscular forearm.

Yvonne's heart suddenly itched. "Mr. Harper, how do you want to play?"

"Of course, we play however we please." Elijah's deep voice instantly made Yvonne recall something.

At the law firm that day, they had said the same words.

Elijah clearly mentioned playing cards, but Yvonne perceived a different implication and immediately got excited.

They played cards and chatted for a while. Elijah and the other three men had known each other since childhood.

Philippe and Mason were a bit mischievous, intentionally bringing up some sexual anecdotes during their conversations.

Yvonne not only didn't blush but occasionally chimed in, making everyone burst into laughter and praising Yvonne for not being reserved.

Philippe and the other two quickly broke the barrier with Yvonne and treated her as a friend.

On the other hand, Elijah maintained a distant and serious demeanor while playing cards.

Yvonne was always skilled at cards, but as soon as Elijah joined the table, she began losing, and within an hour, she was penalized to drink two bottles of red wine.

Yvonne's cheeks turned rosy, and when she got up to go to the restroom, her steps were already unsteady.

Philippe had long noticed that there was a story between Yvonne and Elijah, so he teasingly said, "Elijah, go with her quickly!"

"Why should I go with her? She is not my woman," Elijah replied coldly.

Philippe didn't say anything further. Louis turned on the jukebox, picked up the microphone, and began singing.

But Elijah couldn't sit still. Before the song could finish, he got up and said, "The private room is stuffy. I'll go outside for some fresh air."

"Sure, sure. Also keep an eye on Yvonne for us," Mason urged him.

Elijah walked out of the private room and saw Yvonne leaning against the elevator, smoking.

She seemed a bit unsteady, clearly feeling the effects of the alcohol.

Their eyes met, and she smiled with narrowed eyes, saying, "I knew you would come out."

"Don't be presumptuous. I just came out for some fresh air," Elijah replied as he walked up to her. He took the half-smoked cigarette from her and extinguished it against the wall before tossing it in the trash bin. "You're young, but you smoke a lot."

"What gives you the right to control me?" Yvonne's eyes were seductive, clearly intoxicated.

Elijah's breath tightened, and he reached out, encircling her under his gaze. "What do you wish for me to rely on?"

The tension built up, and Yvonne, unpretentious as ever, took the opportunity to rest her head against his chest. "I've had too much to drink. Can you take me back--"

Elijah immediately lifted her up and carried her in his arms to the underground parking lot.

Although Yvonne's head was spinning, her fantasies became even more intense!

Elijah placed Yvonne, who was still reeking of alcohol, in the backseat and took the driver's seat himself.

As the car started, Yvonne kicked off her shoes and reclined, looking quite at ease.

"Where do you live?" Elijah's voice returned to its usual coldness.

He gazed at her through the rearview mirror with misty eyes. Seeing her silent, Elijah deliberately asked, "Do you want to return to the Brooks's Villa?"

"No!" Yvonne shook her head, curling up in a corner.

The alcohol in her body made her feel very uncomfortable, and she found it exhausting to say even a single word.

As Elijah drove, he occasionally glanced at the rearview mirror and discovered that Yvonne had fallen asleep.

The car entered "Rhode Hills," the most expensive neighborhood in Winslow.

When the car stopped, Elijah reached into the storage compartment and took out a box of cigarettes, lighting one up.

Smoke began to swirl between his fingers. Although he wasn't a frequent smoker, he found himself smoking three in a row this time.

Ten minutes later, Elijah carried Yvonne into the room farthest from his bedroom.

He placed Yvonne on the bed, but she held onto his clothes and refused to let go.

"Let go, Yvonne." Tonight, with her soft body in his arms, a flame had already sparked in Elijah's heart.

Fortunately, he still had some rationality left.

"Don't go-" Yvonne, who was completely intoxicated, had flushed cheeks. She forcefully threw herself at Elijah.

Elijah didn't dodge, and both of them fell onto the bed.

Yvonne's lips pressed against his, and her hands clumsily began unbuttoning Elijah's shirt.

At this moment, indulgence and rationality were in constant struggle within Elijah.

In the end, he succumbed to his own desire.

But clever as Elijah was, he seemed to have miscalculated- Yvonne turned out to be a virgin.

In Elijah's eyes, Yvonne's sultry appearance and various seductive techniques indicated that she was quite casual when it came to intimate relationships with men, but he had misjudged.

He had already been gentle, but Yvonne cried throughout the entire process and even left several scratch marks on his back.

Afterward, Yvonne fell asleep again.

Elijah covered her with the blanket and went to another bedroom.

It was the pain from her torn lower body that woke Yvonne up.

The room was not lit, but the bed was especially soft, completely unlike her hardboard bed.

What was even scarier was that at this moment, she was completely naked!

She had been sexually assaulted!

She forced herself to calm down and tried to find the light switch in the room.

As she moved, her elbow knocked against something round, and the thing fell to the ground with a loud bang.

Judging by the sound, it seemed to have shattered into a hundred pieces!

"What's wrong?" Elijah's deep voice suddenly came from the door, and the bedroom light was turned on.

Yvonne grabbed the blanket and wrapped herself up, looking at Elijah.

Elijah was dressed in a gray silk pajama, with several fresh love bites on his neck.

Was this her doing?

"Yvonne, we had intercourse last night. I'm really sorry, I didn't know it was your first time." Elijah's expression was unusually calm. "I'm willing to provide you with financial compensation."

Yvonne's mind was in chaos.

She had tried so hard to seduce Elijah multiple times, and all for what?

The benefits and progress were not obtained. It should have been a joyous occasion to sleep with him last night, but there was an inexplicable bitterness in her heart.

It turns out that there is a distance between imagination and reality.

"Name the amount, and send me your bank account number." Elijah had already opened his phone.

Yvonne quickly regained her composure and forced out a smile that couldn't be any more fake. "Elijah, you took good care of me last night. Let me transfer some pocket money to you!"

Elijah paused for a moment before smiling. "Alright, Miss Brooks, how much do you think I'm worth for last night?"

Yvonne found her phone on the bed and sent Elijah a $200 red packet.

"Two hundred dollars? Miss Brooks is indeed generous." Elijah's tone was full of mockery, but he still accepted it and sent her a "thank you" expression.

"Elijah, please leave. I need to get dressed." Yvonne's carefree attitude at this moment was just an act. She just wanted to leave quickly.

"It's 2:50 in the morning now, you can leave when it's dawn." Elijah made it clear that he didn't want to send her off.

Since they had already slept together, she was too lazy to bother with anything in the middle of the night.

Elijah kept her there, and she regained some of her dignity.

Yvonne shrank under the covers, her face suddenly turning red.

"Things happened too suddenly, and I didn't take any precautions last night. Tomorrow morning, I'll go to the pharmacy to buy medicine for you." Elijah understood her inner thoughts and comforted her.

Yvonne felt somewhat annoyed that he hit the nail on the head. "You sound like an expert, Elijah. I think you've slept with a lot of women."

Elijah ignored her and went outside.

Yvonne looked around the unfamiliar and spacious room. With its minimalist Nordic style and black, white, and gray tones, it perfectly matched the cold temperament of Lawyer Harper.

She found her clothes at the foot of the bed and noticed that one of the straps on her bra was broken. She threw it in the trash.

Just as she put on the white shirt and jeans from last night, Elijah returned with cleaning tools in hand.

It turned out that Yvonne had just knocked over a glass decoration, and now the floor was covered in broken glass.

"Are you okay?" Although it was a sweet question, it sounded extremely cold coming from Elijah.

"I'm fine. You turned on the bedroom light the moment it fell." Yvonne put on her shoes and got off the bed.

Elijah quickly cleaned up the glass shards. "There's water in the fridge. If you want hot water, go to the kitchen and boil it."

"Mr. Harper, let's take a photo as a memento." Yvonne suddenly smiled and hooked her arm around Elijah's waist. She opened her phone and took a selfie of the two of them.

She then tapped her finger and sent it to Grace via WhatsApp.

Elijah's face immediately darkened.

Before he could say anything, Yvonne sent another text to Grace: "Grace, I'm really sorry. I just slept with your fiancé."

"Take it back immediately!" Elijah couldn't control his anger anymore.

"Don't worry, it has always been Grace's childhood dream to marry into a wealthy family. Even if you sleep with other women for the rest of your life, she won't divorce you." Yvonne was afraid her phone would be snatched, so she tucked it into her pocket.

"Get lost!" Elijah's face turned cold and chilling.

Yvonne didn't expect him to turn hostile. It was pitch dark outside, and her car was still at the Zero Club. How was she supposed to leave?

She mustered up the courage and said, "I will leave as soon as it's daylight."

"Yvonne, disappear from my sight immediately. There are car keys at the entrance, you can use them for now. Tomorrow morning, I will go to your place to retrieve the car." Elijah's eyes were cold, and he issued an eviction order.

With things being said to this extent, Yvonne had no choice but to leave.

But she couldn't lose her dignity. When she left, she was calm and composed, without any sign of panic on her face. The sound of the door locking outside could be heard clearly.

In the room, Elijah kicked over a trash can on the ground.
