Chapter 1 Distinguished Joseph

In the S1897 bar, there were several red wine bottle next to Cassie Brooks been empty, but she still kept drinking.

When Laura hurriedly arrived, she heard Cassie shouting for the waiter to bring more wine.

She felt distressed seeing Cassie like this, so she grabbed her shaking hand and said, "Where's Arthur? Doesn't he care about you?" Laura was talking about Arthur Lewis

Cassie pushed Laura's hand away, pressing her hand to her chest, and said bitterly, "Don't talk about him. He's getting engaged to Olivia Brooks."

Laura was stunned, unable to believe it. Arthur and Cassie had grown up together since childhood and expressed their feelings for each other in high school.

She understood why Cassie was so heartbroken and gently asked, "What exactly happened? Could it be a misunderstanding?"

Cassie forced a smile, also wishing it was just a misunderstanding.

When she returned from a business trip in the evening, she saw her long-lost sister Olivia intimately holding hands with her boyfriend Arthur on the couch while their parents sat on the other side, chatting happily.

She approached to question them in confusion and was met with a slap from her mother, Helen Brooks, without hesitation.

Olivia, in a soft voice, tried to persuade her.

However, it was Arthur who completely defeated her. "Perhaps it's my fault. I always treated Cassie like my sister; maybe that's why she misunderstood."

Would he make promises of a future with her if he saw her as his sister?

Would he hold onto her and never let go if he saw her as his sister?

Helen scolded her disapprovingly, "Olivia has suffered for twenty years. Can't you be more understanding?"

To be understanding? Did it mean she should give up the one she loves, making her love meaningless?

Robert Brooks also reprimanded her, saying she was causing a scene, that Arthur didn't like her at all, and even discussed Olivia's engagement ceremony, telling her to leave.

Cassie was trembling with anger, looking at the indifferent Arthur and Olivia by his side.

Suddenly, she felt she was a joker. These were the people she cared about the most, yet now everyone was rejecting her.

She left with her luggage angrily and never looked back.

Driving aimlessly on the streets, tears blurred her vision. She felt like there was no place for her in this home anymore, thenshe chose to call Laura.

Everyone knew about Arthur and Cassie's relationship, and they were supposed to get married eventually. However, due to Cassie studying abroad and Arthur being busy with work, they hadn't made it official. But now, Arthur was engaged to Olivia, making Cassie a laughingstock. Robert and Helen sided with Olivia.

Just because Olivia had suffered a lot, they wanted to give her the best. She was the only one in their hearts now.

Laura couldn't believe it. "But you are their daughter too! They can't just make it up to her like this."

Arthur promised her a lifetime together, but now he had found a new love.

Thinking further, Cassie choked up, took the wine bottle to drink several sips, as if she wanted to chugged her tears down her throat.

"It's not your fault. Why do you have to do this to yourself?" Laura took the bottle away from her.

"There are still numerous good men in the world. If he changes his heart, it's his loss," Laura comforted Cassie continuously.

It was said that the most effective way to forget a past love was to immerse oneself in a new one.

Soon after, Laura searched in the bar and actually saw a familiar figure.

She nudged Cassie and pointed to Joseph Hernandez sitting in the corner.

The lighting was dim in that area, but Joseph could be vaguely seen in his suit, eyes closed, leaning against the couch, exuding a distinguished air. Occasionally, a beam of light would pass by, highlighting his perfect profile and distinct features.

Cassie reluctantly raised her head and squinted. "Do you think I'm in the mood to appreciate a handsome man right now?"

"That's Arthur's uncle," Laura said.

Cassie was taken aback, shaking her head and trying to widen her eyes. "Are you sure?"

She had heard Arthur mention his mysterious uncle, who had been managing a company overseas.

And she had heard recently that Arthur's uncle had returned, but she hadn't had the chance to meet him.

Laura said, "Last time I attended a party with Elliott, he pointed him out to me. It's definitely him. Don't be fooled by his young age, he's quite formidable. Even George Lewis has to show him some respect."

Elliott was her brother.

George was Arthur's father.

Cassie pondered for a moment, then looked up excitedly. "What if I marry him?"
