Chapter 5 She Married a Man She Had only Met Once

Forty minutes later, Cassie saw Joseph outside the Marriage Registry Office. He stood out, tall and dignified, dressed in a meticulously ironed white shirt and black trousers.

She quickly parked the car and hurried over. "You really came."

Cassie's voice carried a hint of surprise.

Joseph turned around, wrinkling his brow at the smell of alcohol lingering on her from the night before. "You didn't shower."

Cassie instantly felt embarrassed. "I drank too much last night and passed out. I woke up in a hurry this morning."

Seeing Joseph's increasingly disdainful look, she quickly swore, "Today is really an accident. I usually shower every day."

As she spoke, she assessed his features.

Last night at the bar, she only knew Joseph was good-looking, but in the daylight, she saw that he was not only handsome, with sharp features and clear, cold eyes, but his skin was flawless without a single pore.

The murmurs of passing young people drifted over.

"He's too handsome."

"That girl is not bad either."

"Their children will definitely be good-looking."

Joseph raised an eyebrow and said directly, "We won't have children. In three years, we'll divorce. I'll give you enough money to live comfortably for the rest of your life. I won't meet your family either. Think it over. If you disagree, you can leave."

Cassie felt a lump in her throat, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

She thought he had fallen for her at first sight last night.

She said to herself inwardly, 'Well, three years is fine.'

With her charm, she was sure she could make Joseph fall in love with her within three years.

She was determined to secure her position as Arthur's aunt-in-law.

"Okay," Cassie replied.

They went to complete the registration. Joseph handed over his driver's license, and it was then that Cassie learned his real name was Joseph Hernandez.

Wasn't Arthur's mother named Foster? Shouldn't his last name be Foster too?

Cassie was puzzled and asked, "Why is your last name Hernandez?"

Joseph, busy signing, barely looked up. "I took my mother's last name," he replied casually.

"Oh, I see," Cassie said, realizing she might have mistaken him for someone else, which scared her.

She had approached him because he was Arthur's uncle. She was determined to be Arthur's aunt; that was her goal.

But something felt off.

Ten minutes later, they had their marriage certificates.

Cassie felt a mix of sadness and disbelief.

She had always thought she would marry Arthur, but here she was, married to a man she had only met once.

"Here's my contact information. I have to go now," Joseph said, writing his number on a piece of paper and preparing to leave.

"Wait," Cassie quickly stopped him. "We're a couple now, so we should live together. Even if we divorce in three years, we're still legally bound."
