Chapter 6 Shouldn't Get the Person Wrong, right?

Cassie shook the marriage certificate and looked at Joseph, who seemed indifferent. She pouted, trying to gain his sympathy. "I'm really in a tough spot. Ever since my long-lost sister came back, my parents have been neglecting me. I've been kicked out and have nowhere to stay."

"You can rent a place on your own," Joseph said, unfazed, and started to walk away.

"Honey, don't leave me!" Cassie pleaded, holding onto his arm. "I have nothing now, only you."

Her voice grew louder, drawing the attention of many in the hall.

Joseph, with a sullen expression, regretted getting the certificate with her.

Annoyed, he said, "Enough. I live in Emerald Bay. You've been there. Go there yourself."

Unable to take it anymore, Joseph dragged her out of the office and warned in a low voice, "You sleep in the guest room. My room is off-limits. Also, don't disturb Dakota."

"Dakota?" Cassie gasped. "Do you have a child?"

Joseph raised an eyebrow. "Take care of him."

With that, he left.

Cassie was so shocked that she forgot to chase after him. She had prepared herself to marry someone she didn't love, but she wasn't ready to be a stepmother yet, especially since she hadn't seen any signs of a child living with him last night.

She stood on the roadside for half an hour, pondering her future roles as a stepmother and an aunt.

Finally, she glanced at Joseph's annoying photo on the marriage certificate and decisively rushed into a mall to buy toys for the child.

His name was Dakota, so he must be a boy. She selected a few toy cars and building blocks, then drove to Emerald Bay.

Carrying a bunch of stuff, she took a deep breath at the door, entered the password, and the door opened.

Wearing a friendly smile, she gently said, "Hi, Dakota."

In the quiet living room, a white cat with light yellow ears lazily lay on the sofa and meowed.

Cassie blinked. "Dakota?"

Dakota stretched, walked over to her, sniffed the toys in her hands, and then uninterestedly returned to the sofa and lay down arrogantly.

Cassie cursed inwardly, 'Come on, Joseph, why not explain it clearly? I've spent so much time accepting that I'm a stepmother. But Dakota is quite cute, with clean fur and chubby cheeks.'

She leaned over to pet him, but Dakota quickly darted into the master bedroom, a room she hadn't entered last night and felt unworthy to enter.

Feeling frustrated, she sighed and began to carefully examine the house, which had three bedrooms and two living rooms.

One master bedroom, one guest room, and a study.

Wasn't Joseph a successful entrepreneur? He should be living in a villa, but this place showed no trace of luxury at all. Even the books in the study were about "Jurisprudence" and "Legal Information."

Cassie felt that familiar sense of unease again. She pondered, 'Could he really not be Arthur's uncle? That's impossible!'

She quickly shook her head to deny it.

She thought Laura, though occasionally confused, shouldn't have mistaken him.
