Chapter 5: Thaniel
No part of me wanted to work today. I wanted to call in and say that I couldn't come in, yet here I was. I aimlessly answered emails and tapped on my keyboard, not really paying attention. My mother had left voicemails on my phone and my father had too. They never left me alone. And again, the ever-present question of when I'd settle down came from their lips. It seemed everyone wanted to fucking know when I was going to settle down with a nice girl.
"Hey!" June peered over my cubical and threw a ball of paper onto my desk.
I growled and threw it back at her. "What?"
"How would you like to go out tonight? Just you and me." June chewed gum in the most annoying way, but she was cute enough.
I shrugged my shoulders and leaned back in my chair. "Alright, pick you up at eight?"
"Sounds good." June winked at me and sat in her chair.
I knew she didn't really want to date me. She was only pretending to get in my bed, which was fine. I could use a distraction. Last night had sucked and I honestly needed something to take my mind off Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy.... There was that damn name again, repeating in my head.
I shook it off and growled, standing up to throw a wad of paper at June to grab her attention. She took her headset off and peered up at me. God she was gorgeous. The way her button-down was undone enough to see those perky breasts and god I could just-
"Meet me in the bathroom down the hall." I put my hands in my pockets and took off towards the restrooms, hearing her giggle and most likely stick her nasty gum somewhere for when we got back.
A dark smirk fell on my lips as she chased after me. I punched the door and watched it swing open. She slipped into the men's room and that was all it took. I spun around and grabbed her by the hips, tearing at her clothing and parting my lips to bite her shoulder and her neck. Grazing her skin with my sharp fangs and ripping through her shirt with my claws.
I lifted her and slammed her back against the white tile wall, covering her mouth with mine in a fervor as the surface cracked beneath her. She moaned and rocked her hips as I ripped her panties from her body and undid my pants in a haste, slamming into her hard and causing her to scream in bliss.
I ran my nose up her throat and breathed in her scent where it was the strongest beneath her earlobe. She didn't smell as amazing as Amy. Amy. Amy. Amy... That damn fucking name! I slammed my fist down beside June's head and she gasped and growled with want, running her claws down the back of my shirt and tearing it.
I let a low purring growl pass my lips and vibrate along her ear as I fucked her faster and harder against the wall until she was trembling and cumming hard.
Not long after I set her back on the floor and adjusted my clothes. I took off my button-down, knowing I had a replacement in my desk. I could play it off like I had spilled something on it anyway. Wasn't like it mattered. No one would second guess it around here.
"So, our date?" June fixed her clothing and got rid of her blouse, leaving on her cream camisole.
"I'm really sorry, June. I forgot that I have plans tonight with my best friend." I made up some excuse. I didn't want to go out with her, not when my head was so screwed up.
I swallowed hard and made my way back to my desk. I barely heard her say, 'oh, okay', as I walked away from her and shut the door behind myself. I knew that I had been rude. It's not nice to hit it and run, but I didn't feel like it was right to get a woman's hopes up and then just fuck her over. She wouldn't have stayed anyway. What was the point?
I sat down in my black leather chair and shoved open a drawer, pulling out a new button-down. I always kept extras in there.
"Hey, mate. What happened to your shirt?" Jason stopped by my desk, watching me button my shirt.
"I spilled some coffee on it, is all." I shrugged and tucked my shirt in before pulling myself closer to my desk. "You know how it is."
"So, what was with you the other night?" Jason raised an eyebrow, and I broke the black pen in my hand in half.
"What?" I stared into my computer screen, hoping to God he wasn't asking me about the damn human girl.
"The human. You punched our mate in the nose and then acted like she was your Chosen. Pretty ballsy, mate." Jason grabbed a stress ball from my desk and threw it up into the air to catch it.
"Nothin'. I need to make copies before the boss yells at me." I stood up and left my cubical.
"Yeah, but the boss is your mother." Jason called after me.
Ursa Eldan, CEO and owner of Eldan Enterprises. A company that worked with arms secretly and dealt with finances to the general public. She was a tough ass woman and my mom. No one messed with her. Unless they were looking to fight, and she won more than half the time.
I slammed the stack of papers into the copier and hit the buttons on the machine, ignoring the familiar sound of heels clacking along the tile.
"Making copies for feeble old me?" My mom smiled at me from the doorway as she leaned on it with a coffee cup in her hand that read, 'Badass Omega'. She wasn't one for owning the typical 'Girl Boss' labeled shit. She had to be unique.
"Yes, mom. You wanted twenty-five, right?" I didn't peer up at her again as I messed with the machine.
"Heard you met a girl at that party thrown by Evie last night. A human girl." She raised an eyebrow at me, and I knew I was in trouble.
"Look," I turned to face her with my hand out. "I wasn't looking for a fight. She was being hurt by damn Christian. You know how much I loathe the ass."
"Mm-hm. I do, sugar, but you can't go around protecting the prey. You know that." My mom was never one to lie to me. She was right. What I had done was inexcusable. I should have let Christian have his way with her, but that wasn't who I was.
I wasn't just an Alpha, a predator, a primal, but I was also a protector and she needed it. My mom sighed and I heard her approach me. Her hand touched my shoulder and began to massage it.
"I know you have a big heart. Out of all my boys, you were the softest and still are. You act tough, but I know the truth. You can't hide it from me, pup." She warmly smiled and fixed my messy hair. "When you gonna cut this hair?"
"Never," I mumbled, and she laughed.
"Always were the stubborn baby. Alright, give me my copies, get me coffee from that place down the street, and come tell me more about this girl. I wanna hear about it from your mouth. Not Evie's damn big ass mouth. We all know she talks like a fucking gossip monger." She laughed and smacked my shoulder.
I didn't want to talk to her about Amy. I didn't want her to know about how her name was invading my every thought and move. How she was dictating how I lived my life and I had only had one brief encounter with the damn woman. I groaned and watched the copies fall and stack on their own as they came out of the machine. Before long I had all twenty-five copies and was carrying them to my mom's office.
