Chapter One

Myra

A rupture of moonstone red light appeared in the canal black sky, as the scent of death filled the atmosphere. Blood splattered from the open wounds, and lifeless bodies scattered through the forest.

The sounds of swords kept clanking and clashing leading to lifeless bodies, scattered around the forest, along with shredded body parts of wolves.

The snarling and squealing of wolves, as the ground became greasy with gore, could be heard, together with bones breaking as warriors transformed into devilish looking werewolves at every corner of the woods.

This was a complete disaster. The entire moonstone pack was in total chaos. Houses, shops and businesses, families had managed to build for survival, burned violently with choking black fumes into ashes. And the lives of their loved ones were seized right in front of their eyes.

The surrounding air thickened as I started to run briskier and faster. My heartbeat quickened in fright as I thought of my parents, hoping that they were safe and sound.

I went to the pack house a few minutes ago to visit my best friend Wilfred, but he was not around. On returning home, everywhere seemed to be upside-down and improper. The moonstone pack is being attacked by the neighboring kingdom who is its most dreadful enemy, just for power and resources.

I got to the front yard of our home, but it was unrecognizable. It was completely burnt and shattered into smooth ashes and broken woods. I ran around our small house screaming my parent's names, but nothing except the screams of women and children could be heard.

“Mum, dad, where are you? My voice quivered “Fuck! I muttered under my breath as there was no response. I quickly made my way back to the route I came from, running around the entire dangerous battlefield, still screaming my parent's name at the top of my lungs.

“Hey little girl.” A hand suddenly grabbed me by the shoulders. It was an unkempt looking man who kept staring at me with lust in his eyes. He licked his lips as if I were some food he had been salivating to eat.

I tried to remove his hands from my shoulders, but his strength was incomparable to mine, who was just an omega wolf. Omega wolves are known to be the least powerful and lowest rank of wolves.

I kneaded him in his groin, which made him release me immediately as he screamed in pain and agony. “YOU LOW LIFE BITCH” “how dare you!!. He screamed like a pathetic little baby whose candy had been taken away.

I ran as fast as my weak limbs could take me away from the monster. He was running after me in his wild form. His eyes were bloodshot and his canines brushed against his lips, ready to tear me apart.

I found my way to the roads, but the strange man caught up with me. He snarled at me in anger before he started to approach me on all four paws, slowly extending his claws.

He jumped at me to attack. I got so scared that I bowed to protect myself. But it never came, instead the sharp sound of a sword slashing into the tissue was heard.

I looked up to see my mother, who was all covered up in blood and mud. She looked scared and tired as her eyelids dropped, heavy with wariness.

The strange man lay lifeless just in front of me. My mouth opened wide in surprise, as I had never really seen my mother kill anyone before.

“Mum” are you okay? I asked, while running towards her. I got scared of her weak and frail appearance and also the darkish wet blood mixed up with mud that enveloped her whole body.

“Where is dad?”I quickly asked again, not giving her a chance to answer my previous question, after noticing I couldn't find his shadow anywhere near me.

“Listen to me baby” she immediately stopped me from looking around by restricting my jaws with her beautiful long fingers.

“Don't look back” she ordered with a very stern voice. “I want you to start running as fast as those limbs of yours could take you. Go to your father's farm and hide in the opening under the tree trunk.”

“Why mum?" I asked. I knew this was not the right time to ask questions, but the curiosity in me couldn't let me follow her orders. But she ignored my question while pulling me forward.

“WHERE IS FATHER?”I shouted while slapping her hands off my jaw in anger and exhaustion. I could feel something was off and extremely not right.

Furthermore, I turned back to go find my father by myself, but I was met with the disastrous and dreadful image of my father's corpse lying lifeless in a pool of his own blood.

A feeling of anguish and despair covered me, making me drown in my downpour of tears. A crippling pain washed over me, leaving me numb for a moment as memories of our past brushed me like a subtle feather.

“Ahhhhhh” I screamed like a bereaved little girl, before my limbs became mobile again. I kept taking Slow, gentle steps until I got to my deceased father.

I couldn't believe he was dead, his eyes opened wide, and his mouth hung open as if he were about to utter a word. A large spear was stabbed into him, which further broke my heart as I thought of the intense pain he was in before he died.

I looked back at my mother, who trembled in pain and misery. Hot, boiling tears streamed down my eyes as I thought of who could be so cruel to kill my father in this manner.

“Da, dad”I stammered while trying to touch him with my shaking hands but I was suddenly yanked by one of the warriors who was holding a dagger in one hand and a longsword in the other.

I got scared by the image of the enormous warrior whose nose flared with each breath he takes. He raised his long sword to me with a sinister look, with the corners of his mouth raising slightly in delight.

He was interrupted by the stab in his back, which only intensified his anger and his expression was now livid.

“Run!! My mother shouted, while battling with the enormous man with her last strength. I was reluctant as I feared for the life of my mother and the only person I had left.

I watched as my mother fought tirelessly with the warrior until he succumbed, dropping to his knees with great pain as he screamed in agony. I never knew my mum had so much skill, as she was an omega, just like me.

Her swiftness and pace made me wonder just what if she wasn't what she claimed to be…. “HURRY” she screeched, bringing me out of my messy mind.

We ran like never before, bringing us to a two-dimensional pathway which was surrounded by dreadful looking wolves.

“Shit!” I heard my mother curse under her breath as she started to battle with the werewolves again. She signaled for me to run, and I had to follow her orders this time for her safety and mine.

I raced a few distances away from her with my heart thumping loudly in exhaustion and fear. I prayed for my mother's safety to the moon goddess as I continued to run weakly, not wanting to give up.

The hysterical ear tearing scream brought me to a pause. That voice is so fucking familiar. I could recognize it anywhere and anytime. I turned and ran back to confirm my worst fears.

The kneeling image of My mother who had an arrow coated with wolfsbane piercing through her back greeted me. I could imagine the look of terror and anguish on my mother's face as she was being defeated.

I couldn't explain what I felt this time, but it could be linked to numbness. Yes, numbness was the right word to describe how I felt. A feeling of melancholy surrounded me, just as how air covered the whole earth.

But the silhouette of a strange person behind her didn't go unnoticed by me. He had a stack of arrows hanging on his shoulders while walking majestically, back from wherever he appeared from. The whistling sound he made stuck to my head like a poem I learned while in kindergarten.

The drama that unfolded just right in front of me made me realize that my parent's death was not by circumstance. They were deliberate and intentional. So I swore to myself at that moment to avenge my parents' death.

Without warning, as if from the shadows themselves, a figure emerged, swift and silent. Before I could react, a powerful blow struck the back of my head and the world spiraled into an abyss of darkness and my consciousness slipped by a whiff of smoke.
