Chapter 5 Selling the Wedding Ring
George returned to the Willows’ family villa, feeling like a puppet. Although it was called a "villa," it was actually just a small run-down Western-style house. After the old house was demolished, they were relocated to this three-story building, which was far from being a real villa.
Looking up, George suddenly noticed a light in Lily's room.
"Lily is home?"
"She didn't go outside to find Tom?"
His heart shook, as if he were a person on the brink of death who had just been given a shot of adrenaline. He finally realized that he couldn't completely trust Florence's words. This woman was spouting nonsense, and she probably wanted to provoke him.
He hurriedly rushed inside.
To his surprise, he saw Florence sitting on the sofa, having a video chat on her phone, while resting one leg on the other and applying nail polish.
She was even humming a song!
George felt frustrated. This woman knew that her daughter was going to remarry and she was carefree about it. She didn't take the threat from the Fonda Group seriously at all.
Seeing George, Florence jumped up "Harold, who let you in? How dare you have the face to come back? You are divorcing my daughter tomorrow, so get lost!"
George ignored her and headed straight upstairs, taking three steps at a time.
He wanted to verify if Lily was in her room, otherwise he wouldn't give up.
"Click!"
The door was locked from the inside.
George immediately knocked on the door "Lily, open the door. I know you're in there. I have something to tell you."
Florence, who was barefooted, hurriedly ran up the stairs, scolding in anger "You useless piece of trash! Get out of here! Who gave you permission to come upstairs? Do you think you still have the right to come up?"
"I must see Lily."
"What's the point of seeing her? Didn't I tell you? Lily went to sleep with Tom. Maybe she even got pregnant with his child. Don't keep bothering us. If you dare to obstruct my daughter from becoming Mrs. Harold, I'll kill you!"
George snorted coldly in his heart.
If this materialistic mother-in-law knew that he had a fortune of 10 billion and the Fonda Group behind him with assets worth trillions, who knows what kind of expression she would have?
But he have decided not to tell her for now!
Let her rage!
"Click!"
The door opened.
Lily appeared with a stern face "Mom, can you please stop gossiping like this? You have no shame, but I still do! Who slept with Tom? I haven't even divorced yet. If this spreads, how can I continue to live?"
As she spoke, Cassie also came out.
She looked at George with a cold gaze.
Florence, seeing Lily getting angry, muttered "I was just telling him that you have left to sleep with Tom so that he would give up on you, to prevent him from pestering you."
George knew that he hadn't lost his mind yet, and he immediately felt relieved.
He smiled at Lily and said,
"Lily, it's great that you didn't sleep with Tom."
There's still time.
He suddenly woke up and regained his composure.
Now that he had the capability to protect the people around him. He wanted to rise from the ashes like a phoenix!
Lily!
You supported me for the past ten months!
For the rest of my life, I will no longer rely on you!
However, as she looked at George's radiant smile, Lily couldn't help but feel a sense of self-mockery, disappointment, and even anger.
At this moment, he still had the audacity to smile?
He must have truly lost his mind! She said with a cold face, "What are you laughing at? Although I didn't sleep with him today, I might sleep in his bed tomorrow. Are you satisfied?"
George's expression changed, and he quickly shook his head, "No, that's not what I mean. I want to tell you that I am no longer the person I was before! I admit that during the past ten months, I was lost and lived like a ghost. I was like a boat in the sea, without direction! Here, I must apologize to you and thank you for never giving up on me! But now, I have decided to stand up again, and I have the ability to protect you. What's Mr. Reeze from the Fonda group actually is? In my eyes, it's no different from trash. I will definitely seek revenge for you and shield you from the wind and rain in the future. No one can bully you..."
Just as George was earnestly speaking, revealing his dignified demeanor, Florence, who was standing beside him, suddenly slapped him in the face.
"Smack!"
All his emotions were instantly extinguished.
"What's wrong with you? Are you out of your mind?"
"Are you going insane? Get out of here, you lunatic! And don't say Mr. Reeze is trash. Why don't you say you're the boss of Fonda group? Get out, right now! I can't have a lunatic living in my house. Who knows what madness you might have in the middle of the night?"
George glared at Florence angrily. He really wanted to say that he was the boss of Fonda group.
But even if he were to say it, these people wouldn't believe him either.
The situation would still just be like before when he got slapped by Lily after telling her that he had 10 billion.
From other peoples’ perspective, it was indeed hard to believe.
He took a deep breath, "Lily, give me one day, believe me one more time. I can handle this for you. I... I found a friend of my dad's who is willing to help me! The 500,000 you just gave me, was that to appease Tom? I will go and return it to him now."
After saying that, he turned around and wanted to find Tom.
"Stop right there!" Lily shouted.
"You're not allowed to go!"
George said, "Lily, I'm begging you. Believe me one more time. Don't agree to Tom's demands. Give me one day to prove it to you! If I can't do it, I will agree to a divorce! I absolutely don't want Tom's 500,000. I don't care about it."
Lily looked at him.
It felt like he really meant what he said.
"It's different now," Lily sighed. "I didn't ask Tom for five hundred thousand. I sold my wedding ring for that money."
"What did you say?" George nearly choked but felt relieved knowing the money didn't come from Tom. "Who did you sell it to? I'll buy it back right away."
Lily shook her head. "I sold it for five hundred thousand. If you want to buy it back, it might cost one million. Even if you don't give the money to your mom for treatment, you can't come up with that amount! Maybe this is our fate. This marriage is destined to end! George, wake up and stop dreaming. I hope you can live a good life even without me in the future."
She turned around and closed the door. As she closed her eyes, tears rolled down her cheeks.
"No, I won't allow it. Tell me who you sold it to, I'll buy it back no matter if it costs a billion. Don't worry, our marriage won't end."
"Starry Jewelry!"
"Okay! Wait for me, you have to wait for me!"
Cassie shook her head and said, "This guy is truly crazy. Does he think he's a billionaire?"
Florence pushed and slapped George, urging him out of the house.
"If you dare to block Lily from marrying into the Harold family, you can expect to be beaten to death by me!"
George took a deep breath and quickly headed to Starry Jewelry.
Starry Jewelry was the top jewelry store in Riverdale. It was easy to locate the store as it only has one branch in the country.
It was already 8:30 in the evening, but fortunately, the store hadn't closed yet.
Upon entering, George noticed there were still many customers inside.
The store was very spacious, with three floors in total, displaying a wide variety of jewelry that was difficult to estimate in terms of total value. The security was also tight.
George was about to find a store clerk to ask for help when he ran into a couple on his way.
The woman was none other than Daisy, his ex-girlfriend whom he had just seen at the hospital earlier.
When Daisy saw him, she was taken aback but immediately approached him with a malicious tone, "Well, well, well, did I step on dog poop today? How else could I run into a piece of shit like you? What are you doing here? Can you even afford the jewelry here?"
Daisy took off her nurse uniform and changed into an extremely seductive and glamorous outfit. She was hanging onto a greasy and plump man in a well-tailored suit. She was practically clinging to him.
George scoffed, "Whether I can afford it is none of your business!"
Daisy sneered, "I just wanted to remind you that the money for your mother's treatment was earned by your wife... Haha, the money you got from selling the ring. Aren't you planning to use that five hundred thousand to buy her a gift and make her happy? You better hurry back and drink the bathwater of your wife..."
"Scram! This is not a place where a poor loser like you can come." George was furious, his gaze turned dark and cold. "You can't even begin to fathom how much money I have. I can buy it all today. Do you believe me?" He pointed at a necklace displayed on a billboard, named Heart of Ocean, with a price tag of 29,999,999! It symbolized everlasting love. Daisy burst into laughter. “Are you daydreaming? If you can afford it, I'll kneel down and lick your toes clean!"
