Chapter 3 I'm Not Qualified!

"Slap yourself. I didn't say to stop,"

Their Grandfather's expression was cold. In the Carter family, he was the almighty figure. Before this, no descendant had ever dared to insult him in front of his face. This was the first time. How could he easily forgive? If he forgave lightly, then would he still be the head of the family?

"Grandfather, I'm sorry."

Slap!

"Grandfather, I'm sorry."

Slap!

With every self-condemning statement Joshua made, he slapped himself, while cursing Michael's ancestors in his heart. If it weren't for this useless person pushing him to his limit, he wouldn’t have spoken without thinking and insult his grandfather?

"Pff!"

Charlotte, who was initially very angry, saw Joshua slapping himself, looking so miserable, and couldn't help herself and she burst into laughter.

It felt incredibly satisfying!

Ever since she became the CEO Joshua gave her a hard time.

So much so that she couldn't help but secretly give Michael a thumbs-up.

This was the first time she had seen Joshua in such a sorry state, and it was all thanks to Michael.

"Hehe!"

When Michael saw Charlotte giving him a thumbs-up for the first time, he felt happiness come so suddenly that he couldn't help but scratch his head and smile foolishly.

All he wanted was to see her happy.

Just like in ancient times when Kings played with the innocent lived to amuse his beloved, Michael was willing to pay any price to make Charlotte happy.

Because he knew that he had barged into her life and caused her so much pain!

"Alright." At this moment, the old man spoke, "Go back and reflect on yourself, find out where you went wrong. If you can't figure it out within three days, even if I have to hire someone with a high salary to be the CEO, I won't let you continue as the CEO."

Joshua was instantly delighted.

Was Grandpa planning to remove Charlotte from her position as the CEO?

"You better thank your grandpa!" Joshua's father, Richard, exclaimed, glaring at him.

"Thank you, Grandpa! Thank you so much! I will definitely reflect on myself!" Joshua stood up, even though his face was red and swollen, he didn't feel any pain. He turned around and gave Charlotte a smug look, appearing quite pleased with himself.

Then, he gave Michael a fierce gaze, brushed past his shoulder, and couldn't resist muttering a threat under his breath, "Just you wait and see!"

With that, he left in big strides.

At this moment, the old man looked at Michael and said coldly, "It's only because you're no longer a part of the Carter family that I won't hold you accountable. Otherwise, as a son-in-law who married into the family, who do you think you are to meddle in the affairs of the Carter family? I'd make you kneel and slap yourself!"

Saying this, he turned to Charlotte.

"Charlotte, come here."

"Grandpa, I won't divorce him."

Charlotte didn't go over, she said directly, "I know you want me to divorce Michael, but I can't obey you. If I divorce Michael, my dad will have no one to take care of him."

Since Robert had become a vegetable after the car accident and returned home, Michael had been taking care of him all along. Her mother was afraid of dealing with excrement and didn't bother with it.

Only Michael took care of her dad with care. Every time she visited her dad, she couldn't even smell the slightest odor. If it was any other man as her husband, she believed her dad's body would be infested with maggots.

"You can hire a nanny to take care of him!"

The old man said seriously and earnestly, "You must divorce him. Daniel called me today, as long as you marry him..."

"I will give your family a dowry of fifty million, and I will lend one billion from the Wright Group to help the company through this crisis."

Uncle and aunt, filled with envy and jealousy, listened to this.

Why can't my daughter be pursued by a top-notch wealthy young man like Daniel?

Comparison truly can be the death of joy.

Michael's mother-in-law, Sophia, was overjoyed, "Charlotte, fifty million! Take out five million, that's enough to hire a nanny to take care of your father for the rest of his life. With the remaining forty-five million, Mom can buy a villa with a garden and a swimming pool for ten million, and another two million to buy a top-of-the-line Pamela. The rest of the money can be used by Mom for retirement. You won't have to give me money anymore, and you can go live your own life with Daniel, without having to worry about Mom."

"Mom, I am a person, not a commodity. I don't want to be bought and sold!"

Charlotte felt helpless and turned to her grandfather, saying, "Grandfather, I don't like Daniel. I beg you, please don't sell me, okay?"

"Fine!"

Her grandfather slammed the table and stood up, "If you can secure a loan of one billion within three days to resolve the crisis of the Wright Group, I won't interfere with your marriage. But if you can't secure the loan, you must divorce and marry Daniel. There's no room for negotiation!"

After saying these words, her grandfather, leaning on his cane with his eldest son's support, left the room.

"Charlotte, why didn't you agree? Did you intentionally want to anger your mother?!"

After everyone left, Sophia angrily shouted.

"I'm so angry! That was a fifty million dowry!"

Sophia pounded her chest and stomped her feet, fuming with anger, then she pointed at Michael and cursed, "It's all because of you, you good-for-nothing! I want to smash you to death!"

She completely lost control, grabbed the tea set on the table, and began swinging it wildly at Michael.

"Mom, I'll help you smash this good-for-nothing!"

Emily, Charlotte's sister-in-law, returned from school and saw her mother throwing a fit. Without a second thought, she also grabbed the fruits on the table and threw them fiercely at Michael.

Charlotte couldn't stop them, shouting hoarsely, "Stop! Please stop!"

But it was of no use.

Michael just covered his head and let them pummel him. After three years of marrying into the Carter family, he had experienced this kind of scene many times and long gotten used to it.

"If you're still here in three days, I promise to use a Kitchen knife to kill you!"

Sophia, tired from smashing, glared at Michael with resentment, angrily went back to her room, and slammed the door shut.

"I don't mind helping Mom finish the job."

Emily dropped a harsh remark and ascended the stairs with her slender legs.

Charlotte bit her lip, tears streaming uncontrollably from her beautiful eyes, as she stared intently at Michael.

"I'm sorry for causing you distress again."

Michael grabbed two pieces of tissue and gently wiped Charlotte's tears away.

What can I do is to support you. We are married, and no matter what challenges we face, we should face them together. We'll find a solution, and I believe in us."

Hearing Michael's words, Charlotte's eyes filled with tears. She reached out and held his hand tightly. No words were needed at that moment; their connection was enough to convey their love and determination.

The following days were filled with tension and uncertainty, but Charlotte and Michael faced them hand in hand. They navigated through the difficulties, supporting and encouraging each other every step of the way. With their unwavering bond, they were ready to overcome any obstacle that stood in their path.

"What I want is for you to be happy and joyful."

"Waste is waste. When I didn't give it to you, you would sneak a peek at me changing clothes. Now that I'm giving it to you, you don't dare to ask for it. There is no man more pathetic than you in this world!"

Charlotte withdrew her foot, preventing him from washing it.

Michael was speechless.

She felt unwilling in her heart, so how could she bear to ask for it?

There was silence afterwards.

Later, Charlotte fell asleep while Michael stood on the balcony, smoking one cigarette after another.

The moon rabbit descended, the golden crow rose, and the lawn below was littered with cigarette butts.

In the end, he took out his phone and dialed a number that he had never called in three years.

He had figured it out. For Charlotte, he was willing to give up everything, including hatred.

"Who is this?" came an old man's voice from the phone.

Several seconds of silence passed before Michael replied with two words.

"It's me."

"young master?" Jonathan exclaimed, surprised. "Are you willing to come back with this old servant?"

"No," Michael said. "I want to talk to you."

"Alright, at Crescent Plaza, I'll be waiting for you."
