Chapter 4
Susan's pov
"Thank you," I said, really relieved. "I lost my documents, and well..." I stopped talking. That's not exactly what happened, but it's true nonetheless.
She opened a drawer, took out the room key, and handed it to me.
"If you want, I can give you an address where you can get a fake ID." I took the key from her hands and looked at her with a raised eyebrow.
"Would you do that for me?"
Normally I wouldn't agree to do something so risky, but I was already doing it, so...
The girl took a piece of paper from the same drawer and wrote down the address.
"If you go to this place you can get it." She handed it to me. She handed it to me. "But it's a bit far from here. It's on the outskirts of town."
"Thanks." I didn't care where it was.
I waved to the punk and went upstairs. I went into my room and locked the door. I looked out of the window and saw some drunks in the bar across the street. I closed the curtain, threw my things on the bed, and took off my clothes. I needed a shower. Badly. I went into the bathroom, turned on the light, and then turned on the shower. I waited for the water to heat up and got in.
Finally...
I lathered up, washed my hair, and, after a few minutes, turned off the shower to get out. As hungry as I was, I could eat a whole bear. I tied the towel around my body and picked up my lunchbox from the bed.
I finished drying my hair after devouring the food. I brushed my teeth and lay down on the bed, already dead. I was exhausted, just dusted off. And at least for today, I had somewhere to sleep in peace.
I remembered that I had to set the clock to wake me up at 7:30 to go to work. I looked at the bedside table and miraculously saw an old table clock. I reached out and set the alarm. And when I turned over after turning off the light, I was fast asleep. Which was a rare thing to happen.
I woke up to the deafening sound of the alarm clock in my ear. I got up startled and reached for the clock. With the force, it fell to the floor and luckily didn't break. I sighed and slowly got out of bed. I got dressed and put on the clothes I had bought yesterday. A black tank top and leggings in the same color. I brushed my teeth, ran a hand through my hair, and put on my sneakers. The same one I'd picked up from the clothesline.
I put the rest of the money I had left over from yesterday in my waistband and left the room so I could buy something to eat and go to work.
Thanks to lycanthropy, my muscles were fully rested after just one night's sleep. A few hours of sleep were enough to make me feel refreshed and ready for another. However, even for me, it was more hours of sleep than I was used to, so I was feeling great.
I went downstairs and saw the punk human heading towards reception with her hair all tangled up. She was yawning and sleep seemed to be her worst enemy right now.
"Good morning!" I passed by the counter.
"Good morning..." I heard her gasp.
I continued to the hotel entrance and stepped outside. I could feel the difference in temperature as I passed the door. The weather was cool but not cold. There were few people on the street. The bar across the street was closed, but a man was lying on the sidewalk in front of it. I widened my eyes and crossed the street. I approached the man and immediately smelled the strong odor of alcohol. I grimaced.
"Uh... Sir?" I said, but he didn't move. I approached and shook his shoulder. He wasn't dirty or badly dressed but completely washed out from the alcohol.
"Don't mind that dying man. He's almost always lying there in the morning." A woman passed me and kept walking. She didn't seem to mind the situation. I looked at the man again and sighed. "Always" is a lot... What the hell happened in this poor guy's life to get him into this situation? I shook him once more, but all I got was a grumble in response. I had to eat before going to work. I couldn't help him.
"Well, good luck, sir."
I kept walking and passed a FastFood. I bought a large hamburger and devoured it as I headed towards work. Luckily, they were open 24 hours a day. So I could go there whenever I wanted.
When I got close to work, I saw Eddy going into the diner. I crossed the street and walked down the sidewalk until I stopped at the entrance. He was approaching the counter and had just greeted Charlie. He was wiping a cloth over the dark marble. I went in and then they both looked at me.
"Good morning," I said and walked over to them.
"Good morning." They both replied.
"Good morning, everyone!" I looked back when I heard a female voice.
A tall, slender woman had entered the coffee shop. She had very long black hair and very black eyes. Her skin was perfect and she had a very youthful voice. She looked no older than 25.
"Good morning Anna." They both replied again.
Anna? Anna? Who was Anna again? I think Charlie had told me about her.
"Hi. Nice to meet you, my name is Susan." I held out my hand to say hello.
She approached with a huge smile on her face. She was a little taller than me. She was wearing light jeans and a navy blue blouse.
"Nice to meet you. My name is Anna." She shook my hand in a friendly manner. She seemed very kind. "I'm the cook here."
Ahhh... That Anna! The head cook.
"Anna, she's the new waitress we hired yesterday."
"So it's you!" She ran her eyes over me and kept smiling. I was beginning to suspect that she was one of those people who embodied cheerfulness every morning. "I love your hair... And your eyes... When I was younger, I dreamed of having honey eyes like yours. You're just adorable!" I stared at her face, not knowing what to think or what to say.
"Thank you..." I laughed awkwardly.
I guess she liked to talk.
"Right, right. Now get ready. The coffee shop will open soon." Charlie put his hand on his waist.
"I missed you too, Charlie." She walked past him, giggling.
We got ready and got to work. Anna had gone to the kitchen and Eddy took the orders that I brought to him. Today, the coffee shop was packed all day and I had to become two people to serve the customers. I was still trying to get used to the job, so keeping up the pace was a bit difficult. But I was still happy. My luck was that I hadn't bumped into any other wolves. All the ones I had met or cared for were human. And I was really lucky about that. But today, in particular, I saw a guy walk into the coffee shop. He immediately caught my eye because of the specific smell of our species. The smell was strong as if he had recently changed. He looked about 30 years old. He was wearing a white dress shirt and jeans. His shoes were perfectly shined. He had very dark brown hair, but I couldn't see the color of his eyes. I had to stay away, but I was the only one attending. My scent wasn't as strong as it had been yesterday, but he would notice me from meters away if I came any closer.
The first thing I thought of doing was going into the kitchen and asking Anna if she had any perfume to lend me. She frowned at my sudden question.
"Yes, it's in my bag in the cloakroom cupboard. You can take it if you like." She was making bread dough and her hands were completely covered in flour.
"Thanks, Anna. Thank you very much." I left and walked quickly to the changing room. I looked in all the lockers and when I finally found her bag, I opened it and sprayed the perfume on myself several times. I coughed a little, but that would certainly mask my smell. I left the bag in the same place and left the changing room.
