Episode 1: A Course Broken.
Ava's POV.
Caleb was sitting alone outside the house, with many thoughts running through his mind.
He was reflecting on what he had been through as a cursed werewolf for the past four days. During this time, he had wandered the streets and unintentionally caused harm to innocent people.
However, it is clear that he now regrets his actions. It wasn't entirely his fault, as he was cursed under the influence of some bewitching spirits. I am glad that I could help him.
Not only that, but I have also managed to win him back for myself, away from Ariel, who does not even care about him or his well-being.
Although I lost my only brother, Kindred, who was always there for me as we grew up as orphans, he noticed how much I cared for and loved Caleb. He knew that I couldn't stand by and watch Caleb become a monster overnight. I needed to find a cure, but I couldn't do it alone. Kindred wanted to help me break the curse, as he discovered that Alpha Caleb was the source of my happiness.
I warned Kindred, but he insisted on helping, and unfortunately, in the process, Caleb ended up getting him killed.
As I mentioned, Caleb was not in his right mindset due to the curse. Nobody knew how he became cursed; it just happened suddenly, and he transformed into a monstrous being, attacking not only werewolves but also ordinary humans. Even his father, Alpha Zed, couldn't do much to help him. However, I am a full time hybrid, half a human half witch, so I took it upon myself to save him, even though it cost me my brother's life.
Anyway, my name is Ava Mandela, and I am an orphan. My brother and I lost our parents at a very young age, but fate has its way of playing tricks.
Alpha Zed, Caleb's father, adopted us, knowing that there would come a day when his son 'Caleb' would need me by his side to take over the pack as the leading Alpha. That is my purpose here.
However, as I stood beside my window, gazing at the mesmerizing moonlight, I noticed that Caleb was sitting alone. I knew I had to meet up with him and console him, as it was clear that he must be blaming himself for all the evil he had done in his during those past four days.
So I left the room and approached him where he was sitting. I sat beside him and gazed at the moon.
"You shouldn't be here! have some rest inside" Caleb ordered, as I took a deep breath.
"Caleb, I belong wherever you belong. That's what fate has determined. I can't stand by and watch you blame yourself for no reason," I responded, grabbing his right hand and caressing it.
"I know you must be trying to shoulder the blame for everything that has happened, my brother... and other things. But I want you to know that it's not your fault. I am still here for you," I assured him, but he remained silent.
He acted as if he didn't care about what I had just said, but I understand him. So, the next thing I will do is try to make him happy.
"Caleb..." I called out to him, and he looked at me, his eyes wide.
"This is not the time to be sad. It's time to realize that a great future awaits you. Your dad is old now and needs to rest. The pack is waiting for your leadership. In just 24 hours, the full moon will rise," I said, trying to encourage him.
"And both of us will be turning 20. Your dad has already done his best! But if you keep beating yourself up like this, there's no way you can lead the pack," I continued, but he remained silent.
"Caleb, are you alright? Why aren't you talking back to me?" I asked, concerned about his lack of response.
"You have been doing like this to me for long now... I have done everything I can to make you happy, please is this how it will be after I become your Luna tomorrow...?" I said to him, and he quickly gave me some space.
"Exactly the point, you are failing to understand my feelings. My mood isn't about what I have done being cursed," he responded, and I approached him once again.
"Then tell me, what's the problem? Is it something that we can solve together?" I asked, and he nodded his head.
"Obviously, it is something that we can face and overcome if you allow it," he responded.
I shrugged my shoulders happily, accepting it without even knowing what he wants to say.
"Obviously, it is my duty to make you happy, to keep you safe as your destined mate," I said with a smile, placing my hand on him but he pushed my hand down from his shoulder.
"Ava, I am sorry to say this, but you can't be my mate," he uttered these words that struck me like a heavy bell.
I paused for a few minutes, painfully smiling at him because it sounded like a pretty joke.
"Tell me you are joking," I said with already cracked voice.
"There is obviously nothing funny about this. I meant every single word I said," Caleb responded, making me stare at him with a horrified expression.
"Wait a minute... Caleb are you... you can't reject me now please" I started stammering almost in tears while he shrugged his shoulders.
"It's only if you take it that way, that it becomes like that, Ava. You have always understood me. You should also understand this too..." He was still speaking, and I became so annoyed by his words that I yelled at him, silencing him.
"Understand what! What exactly am I understanding? My brother died because of you, Caleb!" I shouted, tears flowing from my eyes.
"Then he died for a good course, no doubt about that. He died as a hero! You did a great job being with me all this while and fighting through to break the curse. But you should have known that you were never up to my level," Caleb said, and I was lost, looking at him.
Imagine the evil words he is saying? That I am not up to his level? Seriously, after saving him from destruction.
"I was managing you before, Ava, and it's because of my dad" he said as I moved back in surprise, already losing my strength with the words coming out of his mouth.
"You weren't a werewolf, Ava! You are a mere human with witching powers, but now you have none! Your witch power is gone! You have become a totally weak human!" he said, taking in a deep breath and folding his hands, while my eyes were already getting soaked with tears.
Kindred warned me about this Caleb, but I was blinded by the love I had for him. I thought he would be a changed person, but here we are.
I found myself sitting on the ground, unable to gather enough strength to compose myself again.
"I hope you can understand that being an Alpha requires a lot. You can't expect someone like you to stand beside me and lead a pack," he said.
"Especially now that you have lost your special abilities as a witch," Caleb said as I continued to sob.
"Caleb! It was because of you that I lost the abilities! you could have been dead if it weren't for that sacrifice I made!"
"I had to give it up to save you! And this is how you're going to repay me?" I asked sorrowfully.
"Then you should be rewarded for that," he said as I shook my head, tears streaming down my face.
"Rewarded for...? The only reward you can give me is making me your Luna! That's the course my brother died for! To make me happy!"
"There is no reward that will satisfy his spirit more than you making me your bride! No one is qualified for that position more than me," I said, but he interrupted immediately.
"Well, you lied! Ariel does!" he said, and Ariel walked in from nowhere, standing beside him. I gazed at them in surprise.
Ariel could be so evil. I know she's the one behind all this.
She has already gotten into his mind again to make him her slave, but where was she when he became a rogue monster? Obviously nowhere to be found.
"Like seriously? Caleb? Don't tell me that you rejected me just to be with Ariel?" I asked, taken aback.
"Do I have to tell you, or can you see it for yourself?" Caleb responded, while Ariel stood behind him, smiling at me.
"So... all this just because of a girl who never cared about you when you were lost! I fought this alone... I brought you back to who you are!"
"Ariel doesn't love you! She's only interested in becoming a luna! She doesn't love you. she would have done something to save you! if she does" I said, while both of them just gazed at me silently.
"I sacrificed my powers, my brother..." I was still speaking when Caleb interrupted me.
"Excuse me, before you did that, I think you could have had it in mind that I previously told you that night that Ariel is my true mate," Caleb said.
"Maybe if you had thought about that, you wouldn't have ended up in this situation. But you chose to be the hero, which was truly amazing, Ava," Caleb continued, placing his right hand on my cheeks and wiping away my tears.
"No need to cry, Ava. You did a great job, and I have no doubt about that. I will prepare a gift for you as a token of my gratitude. When you change your mind and are ready to accept it, you can come see me," Caleb said.
"But you see, tomorrow is not about me and you anymore. I will be making Ariel my Luna tomorrow. Tomorrow's full moon is for me and Ariel. it's a responsibility, not a choice," he added walking away while I continued to shed tears.
I was destined to be with him, with or without any special abilities.
"Hmm, good girl," a voice whispered in my ear. I looked up and discovered it was Ariel.
"Look at you, trying to sacrifice so much for men when they can easily be deceived by us ladies. Do you think killing your brother or sacrificing him would keep Caleb from being convinced by me? He's mine!" Ariel taunted.
"Stop worrying about whether I truly love him or not, because it's obviously the same for him. You sacrificed so much for him, yet he spits on you," she continued, bending down and looking into my eyes.
"He never loved you! No matter what you sacrifice, it won't change his mind, do you really think he can make you happy after becoming his luna?" Ariel questioned.
"You're thinking wrong. If I were you, I would gather my things and leave his sight for the safety and well-being of the unborn baby," she said with smirk and walked away.
I was surprised at how she knew I was pregnant with Caleb's child. I don't remember telling anyone, not even Caleb.
How did she know? What is she up to? Ariel is too smart, always one step ahead of me. But what could be her motive now.
Everything she said seems positive, but it always has a negative undertone. You can hear Caleb's words sounding like praise, but they are actually her words, twisted and deceptive.
But could she be right about leaving here? the best decision is to leave Caleb's presence forever?
But Ariel...? Is she setting a trap for me? Why would she care about my child? how did she even know that I'm pregnant?
