Chapter 3 Remember Your Words

On the tablet in front of Matthew, it started with a 12, followed by eight zeros.

This meant that there was a balance of a whopping 12 billion in this bank account!

"Wow!"

Matthew took in a sharp breath, and his whole body went limp on the sofa.

Before this, he had worked tirelessly, moving a whole truckload of cement, just for a mere 400 dollars. Now, suddenly, 12 billion was dropped on his head, knocking him out.

"Dear Diamond user, actually, you don't need to worry about the balance in your Diamond Card. Our bank grants high privileges to Diamond Card users, enabling them to access substantial funds in the bank..." Chloe Ross reminded him.

But Matthew couldn't listen any further. This number was astronomical to him!

Countless thoughts began to emerge in his mind.

"This card is real, so that woman didn't deceive me. I used to be a member of the mysterious special forces, and I was extremely strong! I have immeasurable wealth!"

"That mother and daughter duo abandoned me for money, even took over the house I worked myself to death to buy, and attached themselves to a wealthy second-generation guy. I wonder how their expressions would change if they found out that I am, in fact, a super-rich tycoon?"

...

Matthew left before the bank manager arrived, took out 20,000 dollars in cash, and left with Chloe Ross's business card.

He couldn't wait to bid farewell to his current life.

Before leaving, Chloe had told him that he could call her for any help in Riverdale. The bank would assist in resolving any issue that he might have.

After leaving the bank, he hailed a taxi and headed to the construction site.

Visiting the construction site was not to continue moving cement but to retrieve his belongings from the security office, including some things he left behind three years ago. He had to take them with him.

As soon as he arrived at the entrance of the construction site, Matthew heard a series of curses.

"Where is Matthew Parker? He promised to unload this truck of cement this morning. Where is he? Does he still want his job? He's responsible for delaying the project, isn't he?"

At the entrance, a fat guy wearing a helmet, a shirt, and a suit, with a briefcase in his hand, was angrily berating!

In the realm of the construction site, Nathan Turner was known as the foreman, a man of extreme harshness. Delayed payment of wages was a common occurrence.

During a conversation, a seemingly thin and frail young man approached Nathan with a forced smile and said, "Matthew Parker probably has something to attend to. When he comes back, I'll help him with the moving. We still have time."

Matthew's heart warmed slightly. This person was the only friend he had made during the past three years, Jacob Peterson. They often worked together on the same construction site, and their similar ages led them to gradually become acquainted.

"Hmph, I gave him this task. If he can't complete it, I'll damn well deduct two days' worth of pay!" Nathan glanced at Jacob with disdain.

Jacob forced a laugh and said, "Boss, by the way, I still have over ten thousand dollars unpaid wages here with you. Can you please settle it for me first? You know, my child fell ill..."

Nathan Turner frowned and cursed, "What's with the panic? The work period hasn't been settled, and I haven't been paid by the higher-ups. Where am I going to get the money to settle it for you?"

"Boss, this is a matter of life and death." Jacob continued with a forced smile.

"No!" Nathan scornfully glanced at him, then rummaged around in his briefcase and took out 500 dollars, saying, "Here's an advance payment of 500 dollars for you."

Jacob's expression didn't look too good. "This..." he hesitated.

"Do you want it or not? If not, get the hell out of here!" Nathan shouted angrily, "I can see that you don't want to work under me anymore!"

"He said it's a matter of life and death!" Matthew spoke up, "You're really not a decent person."

Nathan Turner turned around and, upon seeing Matthew Parker, narrowed his eyes and stared, "What's it to you? Are you fucking quitting as well? I asked you to unload the goods this morning, but where did you lazily run off to? I'll deduct two days' worth of pay from you. If you're not satisfied, then get the hell out of here!"

Matthew exhaled and glanced at the advertisement board at the site, which bore the words "Portman Bank"! Obviously, there was some connection between the development of this real estate project and Portman Bank.

With a stern face, he walked up to Nathan and calmly said, "I've been feeling displeased with you for more than just one or two days. If Jacob and I don't want to work anymore, settle our wages!"

Nathan Turner was taken aback, clearly not expecting Matthew to actually say that.

He sneered and continued, "You want to quit? Fine. Pack up your stuff and get out with Jacob. As for the money, I'll give it to you when it's settled upstairs."

Matthew smirked. The so-called settlement upstairs basically meant no payment at all!

Jacob's face changed, and he kept gesturing to Matthew, signaling him to stop.

But Matthew remained calm and said, "I said settle it for us now."

"What if I refuse to settle?" Nathan sneered at Matthew. "You can sue me, or better yet, you want to fight me now?"

"Fight you?" Matthew sighed. "I don't want to dirty my hands by hitting you!"

Nathan's disdain became even stronger. He glanced at Matthew and said, "Then get lost quickly. I don't have time to waste with you here."

"You brought this upon yourself," Matthew sighed.

He took out his phone and found Chloe Ross's business card.

Nathan chuckled as he watched Matthew making a call. "Oh, how amusing. I wouldn't have known you were some big shot. Making a phone call, thinking you're more than just a brawny nobody. Oh, my mistake, you do have a pretty wife. Too bad, she left you without you even knowing! I've seen it happen several times, your wife with Ryan Murphy, hanging out intimately! Or perhaps you've always known that?"

Nathan looked at Matthew with contempt!

Meanwhile, Jacob's face changed. "Nathan Turner, you've gone too far!"

Nathan glanced at both of them and sneered, "You were the ones who said you were leaving. Now scram!"

"Give me the money!" Jacob urged as Nathan was about to leave, showing signs of urgency. Neither of them looked towards Matthew.

Whether it was Nathan or Jacob, who had a good relationship with Matthew, they both ignored his phone call.

They didn't believe Matthew's call would have any effect.

"Beep beep beep..."

The phone connected, and Chloe's melodic voice echoed through the line, saying, "Hello, Mr. Parker."

"How did you know it was me?" Matthew instinctively asked.

"I don't give my number to just anyone. Those who have my number are saved in my contacts. Since you were an unknown caller, it wasn't difficult to guess," Chloe patiently explained.

Matthew fell silent, then cleared his throat and said, "Miss Ross, you mentioned earlier that I could call you for any needs, and Portman Bank would assist me. Is that right?"

"Yes," Chloe replied, "May I ask what trouble you are encountering?"

Matthew let out a sigh and said, "Do you know about the Four Seasons Garden development project? I work there, and I saw an advertisement for Portman Bank."

"That development project is indeed sponsored by our bank. Have you encountered any issues there?" Chloe patiently inquired.

"Well, there's a contractor here who is oppressing migrant workers, refusing to pay my co-worker and I our wages..." Matthew glanced at Nathan not far away and whispered.

"Is that so?" Chloe's tone turned slightly chilly. "How would you like to handle him?"

"As brutally as possible." Matthew let out a sigh.

"Alright, please wait a moment. Give me five minutes." Chloe said before hanging up the phone.

Matthew squinted his eyes and looked at Nathan not far away, murmuring, "So this is what it feels like to have money and power?"

Not far away, Nathan and Jacob had no idea who Matthew was calling or what he had said.

Nathan forcefully pushed the slim Jacob aside and scolded, "Stop bothering me here. Now, both you and Matthew Parker, get lost. Don't waste my time!"

He disdainfully glanced at Matthew and said, "Oh, so you made a phone call, huh? How come I didn't see any results? You two are useless!"

After speaking, he turned and walked towards the interior of the construction site.

Jacob's face turned grim. He approached Matthew and forced a bitter smile, saying, "Matthew, you're still too impulsive. He is withholding our wages, and now that we've confronted him, we may not be able to get the money back."

Having said that, anxiety filled his expression as he murmured, "Ah, Caleb is still counting on this money for his chemotherapy this month..."

"Don't worry," Matthew smiled and said, "Nathan Turner is finished!"

"Huh?" Jacob paused for a moment, then shook his head, disregarding Matthew's words.
