Chapter 4 Exclusive Customer Service

At the entrance of the construction site, Matthew returned to the guard room and retrieved his belongings from the security guard.

Jacob stood next to him with a worried look and said, "Matthew, you're still too impulsive. This construction circle isn't that big. Nathan is familiar with many subcontractors. By offending him, it'll be difficult for us to survive in this city. He might even find ways to cheat us out of our wages. Caleb is waiting for the money for his chemotherapy. And you also need money for your wife and mother-in-law. If you go back empty-handed, they probably won't be happy with you."

"I have divorced Elizabeth," Matthew exhaled.

"Huh?" Jacob froze, "Divorced?"

"Yeah, technically speaking, I was kicked out. We signed the divorce agreement this morning, and they threw out all my belongings," Matthew forced a bitter smile and lifted the garbage bag in his hand.

"Oh..." Jacob sighed, "I told you to put your name on the house. You said you didn't mind..."

"Never mind, I'll worry about myself. Caleb will start his chemotherapy tomorrow..."

Jacob's expression turned gloomy again. He glanced at Matthew and said, "You've been kicked out and have nowhere to stay, right? Come to my place for the time being."

A faint warmth stirred in Matthew's heart.

Until now, Jacob hadn't blamed Matthew or turned against him because they couldn't get their money. Instead, he offered to take him in.

This friend was truly worth making.

"Don't worry, within five minutes, Nathan Turner will come back. He will beg us to take the money," Matthew confidently smiled.

Jacob scoffed, "What tricks do you have, kid? Alright, since you've lost your job, come to my place first."

"No rush." Matthew's lips curved into a confident smile.

...

On the other side, Nathan walked towards the interior of the construction site, revealing a sly smile.

Nathan sneered dismissively, saying, "Two useless fools, daring to argue with me. Who gave them face? I won't let them get away with it in Riverdale anymore!"

"Beep beep beep..."

Just then, his phone suddenly rang. He picked it up, glanced at it, and his expression changed slightly. He quickly answered the call.

Although the other person couldn't see him, a sycophantic smile appeared on his face as he said, "Hello, Mr. Lin? Why are you calling me? You can trust me to handle things. I will definitely complete this project on time with good quality."

"You don't need to do it anymore." A cold voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Huh?" Nathan's face changed slightly. "What do you mean?"

"I said you don't need to do this project anymore. We have found someone else. In addition, we have discovered that you have cut corners and used inferior materials in previous projects. We have teamed up with several other real estate companies to sue you. Tomorrow, you'll receive a lawyer's letter. Be prepared to suffer a complete financial loss." The voice on the phone remained calm.

Nathan's face turned pale, and he quickly said, "Mr. Lin, could there perhaps be some misunderstanding in this?"

"Misunderstanding? Do you know Matthew Parker?" The voice on the phone became even colder.

"Matthew Parker, who worked under me. He's just trash, he..." As he said this, he remembered Matthew's call earlier, and his expression twitched.

"If you want to blame someone, blame yourself for provoking the wrong person!" The person on the other end of the phone hung up directly after speaking!

Nathan stood rooted to the spot, cold sweat appearing on his forehead!

In his mind, he saw Matthew, who always wore a tattered vest and looked dirty. His head felt like it was about to explode!

...

At the entrance of the construction site, Jacob looked at Matthew and said, "Don't just stand here, let's go!"

"Ding dong!"

Just then, his phone suddenly rang. Jacob picked it up and glanced at it, saying, "Oh!"

On his WeChat, he received a transfer of money from Nathan Turner. It was a whole 20,000 dollars, three thousand more than his withheld salary.

At the same time, not far away, he saw a chubby figure running towards them frantically. It was none other than Nathan Turner.

For a moment, Jacob was stunned. He looked at Nathan, then at Matthew beside him. He swallowed his saliva and felt that his brain couldn't comprehend the situation.

At this moment, Nathan Turner had already run up to Matthew and, with his chubby face covered in sweat -- whether from exhaustion or fear, no one could tell -- tremblingly pulled out a pack of cigarettes and handed it to Matthew, saying, "Matthew, Matthew, have a smoke!"

Matthew didn't take the cigarettes. Instead, he opened his phone, checked the transaction records, kept what was rightfully his, and transferred the rest back to Nathan Turner, stating, "I'm only taking what I deserve."

"Matthew, I'm sorry, truly sorry. Can you please forgive me?" Nathan nodded and bowed; his previous arrogant demeanor completely transformed.

Matthew glanced at him and remarked, "Your actions are your own business. I just want to take what's rightfully mine. As for the rest, it's not my concern."

With that, he turned around and looked at the stunned Jacob, saying, "Let's go!"

Nathan Turner sat on the ground, muttering to himself, "It's over!"

"What the hell is going on?!" Jacob was astonished.

Matthew smiled without explanation. He couldn't explain this situation to Jacob. The woman had said that he used to be in a secret military unit, which meant there were many things he couldn't disclose.

Until it was confirmed, he didn't dare to speak recklessly. Besides, even if he did, Jacob probably wouldn't believe him.

He glanced at Nathan, then pulled Jacob away from the construction site. The fate of Nathan Turner was simply what he had brought upon himself.

"This couldn't have been you, could it?"

After walking for a while, Jacob still couldn't believe it and asked.

"What do you think?" Matthew Parker asked with a smile.

"Definitely not. I would know even if you farted. If you had that ability, you wouldn't be working so hard at the construction site... Your wife wouldn't, either..." Jacob trailed off, then changed the subject, saying, "Tell me honestly, did you find something to use against that guy?"

"Kind of," Matthew chuckled.

Only then did Jacob smile and say, "I knew it. But it still feels good to get the money... Be careful!"

On the sidewalk, a woman on an electric motorcycle seemed to have lost control and was headed straight for Matthew. Naturally, Matthew noticed and quickly dodged to the side.

In a flash, as she swerved, the electric scooter crashed into the nearby tree. Papers from her cart flew everywhere.

Sitting on the electric scooter was a young and beautiful girl. Seeing that she hadn't hit anyone, she let out a sigh of relief and turned her head, finding Matthew.

Astonished, she said, “Matthew Parker?”

Matthew also recognized her, his brow slightly furrowing. This girl’s name was Scarlett, Elizabeth's cousin.

Of course, when it came to their family, Matthew didn't have a good impression. Scarlett came from a middle-class family; her parents were teachers, and Scarlett herself had a decent job.

When Elizabeth married Matthew, their family strongly opposed it. In the end, it was Elizabeth's father who stood against the crowd, and they finally got married.

But on a regular day, Scarlett's family never treated Matthew kindly.

“Matthew Parker, do you not look where you’re walking?” Scarlett glared and said, “Didn't you see the scooter coming? You caused me to crash into the tree!”

Matthew couldn't help but feel speechless.

For the past three years, he had never held his head up in front of Elizabeth's relatives and friends. He mostly endured their taunts.

But now, after the divorce, his status had changed.

He sneered and said, “You were riding your bike on the sidewalk, almost hitting me, and now you are blaming me?”

“You still have the nerve,” Scarlett said, “Look at your dirty appearance, it's disgusting. I really don't understand why uncle married my sister off to you. Thankfully, you've divorced now, and my sister has found her own happiness. You deserve it!”

Cold light flickered in Matthew's eyes. It truly was the case that they weren't a close family.

“What, do you want to fight?” Scarlett, seeing the fierce glint in Matthew's eyes, wasn't the least bit afraid. Instead, she stepped forward and continued to scold him.
