Chapter 5 You've Been Fired

"This friend of yours is so unreasonable," Jacob couldn't help but intervene.

Scarlett glanced at him and whispered, “What does it have to do with you?”

Jacob wanted to say more, but Matthew stopped him. He looked at Scarlett and said, “I can't be bothered to argue with you. Remember, whether it's you, Elizabeth, or your relatives, you will all regret it eventually.”

“Regret? On what grounds? Do you plan on working as a laborer on the construction site day in and day out to make us regret it?” Scarlett retorted, not backing down.

Scarlett sneered, "Regretful?"

Matthew couldn't be bothered with her and sighed, "Jacob, let's go."

"Hold on!"

Scarlett saw Matthew about to leave and quickly scolded, "My scooter is damaged, you have to compensate me, and pick up these documents from the ground for me."

Matthew felt angry inside. These people really have become accustomed to taking advantage of him. He took a deep breath, ignoring Scarlett, and turned to leave with Jacob.

"Hmph, useless!" Scarlett watched Matthew's figure and muttered disdainfully.

After a while, Jacob helplessly asked, "By the way, are you going to let it go like this?"

"I worked like a horse, taking care of their whole family, working hard outside to earn money, and still had to cook and do household chores when I got home!"

Anger flickered on Matthew's face as he spoke, "And now, they just casually kick me away... If it weren't for some things that happened, I would probably be sleeping at the construction site today. There is no way I can just let it go."

Jacob sighed, "Maybe we should just give up. Elizabeth has hooked up with Ryan Murphy, who comes from a wealthy family in Riverdale. Plus, didn't Elizabeth's uncle start a company? Us ordinary folk can't compete with them."

Yes, Elizabeth's uncle did start a company, but it's not very large in scale.

Matthew had previously mentioned working at her uncle's company, but her uncle thought he didn't know anything and only offered him a job as a security guard with a low salary that couldn't support Elizabeth and her mother. That's how Matthew ended up at the construction site.

Matthew shrugged and didn't say much.

Jacob lived alone in a rented single room in the old district of Riverdale. His life was not as favorable as Matthew's, or one could say he was even more miserable.

He came from a rural background, got married and had a child at the age of 20. But after moving to the city, his wife quickly ran away and disappeared without a trace.

The worst part was that his son, Caleb, was diagnosed with a congenital disease and needed chemotherapy every month.

Jacob was very frail, but he worked the hardest because if he didn't, his son might lose his life.

Arriving at his home, Jacob changed into a new set of clothes and said, “You stay at home for now. I'll go to the school to pick up Caleb for his chemotherapy. As for dinner, you can take care of it yourself.”

Matthew asked, “If I remember correctly, Caleb's illness can be cured through surgery, right?”

"Yes, it can, but it costs 300,000 dollars. As you know, every month, all my money goes into filling that hole, and I simply can't come up with 300,000 dollars." Jacob sighed.

"I can give you the money." Matthew said.

Jacob was stunned for a moment and then said, "Don't mess with me. I'm going out to pick up Caleb."

After finishing his words, he no longer paid any attention to Matthew and ran out the door immediately.

Matthew smiled bitterly, rubbed his nose and said, "They really don't believe that I suddenly have money, huh?"

He shook his head, took a shower in the bathroom, changed into a new set of clothes, and tidied up his belongings. Afterward, his brow furrowed slightly.

Isabella hadn't finished giving him his belongings. He remembered there was an iron box that he had been clutching when he was rescued.

However, he couldn't remember what was inside. Later, his family took it and placed it on the balcony as a support.

Now it seems that this item is probably closely related to his memory loss during that mission.

"I'll have to go back there." Matthew pondered.

Thinking of Elizabeth's family, his face darkened.

"I remember Scarlett works for a company called 'Grand Vision Ltd.' as an HR," Matthew pondered and then took out his phone, finding Chloe's number again.

"Hello"

Soon, Chloe's pleasant voice came through the phone, "Mr. Parker, is there anything I can help you with?"

"Do you know about Grand Vision Ltd.?" Matthew asked.

"Yes, I've heard of it. It's a relatively large logistics company in Riverdale. We have some business dealings with them at the bank. It happens to be under my purview," Chloe said.

Matthew pondered for a moment, then sighed and asked, "Can my current funds be used to acquire their company?"

"Hmm? You want to acquire Grand Vision Ltd.?" Chloe asked slightly surprised.

"Yes." Matthew nodded.

"With your current funds, it is completely feasible to acquire their company. The market value of this company is approximately 200 million dollars, and you have more than enough cash flow at your disposal." Chloe quickly nodded.

"Alright, I don't know much about acquisitions, so I'll need your help with this."

"Can I hire you to help me with some acquisitions? We can discuss the compensation." Matthew asked, "The sooner the acquisition is completed, the better."

Chloe smiled lightly and replied, "No problem, I will get it done for you today. Tomorrow, you can sign the contract."

"Thank you." Matthew said quickly.

After hanging up the phone, Matthew's lips curled up slightly, "I wonder how Scarlett's expression will be when she finds out I'm sitting in their company’s presidential office! "

He thought to himself in a random manner, "Tomorrow, that beautiful woman will come to the construction site to meet me. Hopefully, she can help me regain my memory. The war god of the secret forces..."

After organizing his thoughts, he got up and left home, planning to go back first and retrieve the iron box.

He left and, as usual, took the subway. In the past three years, he had developed a habit of saving money.

When he arrived at the residential area, he headed straight for what used to be his home.

At the door, he took out the key and was about to open it when he heard laughter coming from inside.

"Sis, congratulations this time. You finally got rid of that waste, Matthew Parker. You don't know, I actually ran into him today. He was dressed like a beggar. Fortunately, you've found a handsome and wealthy boyfriend now! I envy you so much! I heard he bought you a BMW and several hundred-thousand-dollars funds for you."

The voice was Scarlett's.

Matthew's heart stirred slightly. Elizabeth seemed to have some brains, as she hadn't spent the night with Ryan Murphy.

"Oh, you're so beautiful. You'll definitely find a more handsome and wealthier husband in the future." Elizabeth said with a smile.

"Finding or not finding a boyfriend is one thing, as long as you can divorce that Matthew Parker, it's a good thing. I don't know what uncle was thinking, insisting on letting you marry Matthew Parker. Besides having physical strength, which is useless in the 21st century, he's nothing. He can only be at the bottom of society for a lifetime."

Another voice rang out. It was Scarlett's father, Joseph.

"Oh, let's not mention that waste anymore. We should congratulate our Elizabeth on finding a golden opportunity to marry Ryan. After so many years, she has finally made it."

"Yes, yes..."

Immediately, a group of people happily chimed in.

At the door, a cold light flickered in Matthew's eyes.

Divorcing him, was what this family seemed to be celebrating.

"Phew!" Matthew let out a sigh, then inserted the key and tried to turn it, but he found that he couldn't open the door.

The lock! It had been changed. He sneered and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" a voice came from inside.

Immediately, the sound of the door opening came, and Isabella stood at the doorway. When she saw Matthew, she was momentarily taken aback, then impatiently said, "What are you back for? Are you planning to pester me again?"

In the living room, there was a large table with over a dozen people. When they saw Matthew, their faces showed undisguised disdain.

"I came back to get something." Matthew calmly replied.

"Didn't your things already get delivered to you? I threw away whatever was left long ago." Isabella said, about to close the door in his face.

Matthew pressed his hand against the door and said again, "There's an iron box propped on the balcony with a crate inside. I was holding onto it when uncle saved me. I have to take it with me."

Saying that, he was about to enter.

"Don't come in, I'll get it for you. Don't mess up my house." Isabella hastily said.

Matthew became frustrated.

Mess up her house? I used my own money to buy this house, and I'm the one who cleaned it every day.

But he didn't go in, just coldly chuckled to himself, "Tomorrow, when I acquire Scarlett's company, your expressions will be quite wonderful!"

He stood at the doorway, and all the relatives in Elizabeth's living room looked at him with disdain. The once lively room had become quiet since his arrival.

Elizabeth frowned, stood up, walked to the doorway, and looked at Matthew. She said, "I know you hold resentment in your heart and think my mom and I have gone too far."

"But you should also understand that someone like you is truly unworthy of me." Elizabeth said.

"In the beginning, it was mainly to fulfill my father's wish that I married you."

Matthew sneered and ignored her.

"After you take the things, don't come see me again. I'm afraid Ryan wouldn't be pleased if he saw you." Elizabeth spoke again.

At this moment, Isabella walked to the doorway, holding a small iron box filled with dust between her fingers, and threw it towards Matthew.

"Alright, you can leave now."

Matthew took the iron box, feeling slightly relieved. Then, he looked back into the room and smirked, "You... will regret this."

"Regret? Matthew Parker, not to be mean, but I'll never marry if you accomplish anything in your lifetime!" Scarlett disdainfully said from inside the room.

Matthew raised his head and looking at her, he smiled and said, "Remember your words."
