Chapter 2 The Car Accident

Sadie could hardly believe her eyes.

Four years ago, she had hurried to her father's company after learning about his bankruptcy and car accident. Subsequently, Newark's richest man, Edmond Roth, committed suicide. The scandal of Miss Roth being dumped and spending the night with a male escort had spread like wildfire, making her the talk of the town.

Fleeing to the countryside, she had discovered her pregnancy just a few months later. In a shabby rural clinic, she had given birth to two boys and a girl—her three precious children.

The sight of the convoy stirred something within her. As the cars appeared, her heart raced, and she allowed herself a flicker of hope. "Brenda, look! That car—it's Ronan Potter's!" Her smile brightened for a moment.

Brenda, panting and red-faced, turned to look, relief washing over her. "You're right, Ms. Roth. Mr. Potter must have been forced to break off the engagement. Now he's come to take you back."

However, the bodyguards ignored Sadie, and her smile gradually froze, a vague unease rising in her heart.

She noticed a well-dressed woman walking over elegantly. Sadie saw her face and was stunned—it was Leah White! "Leah... Ronan, did they...?" Sadie muttered to herself, a hint of disappointment flashing in her eyes.

Leah, dressed in designer clothes, looked more refined than four years ago. Beside her was a little boy, Billy Potter, about the same age as Sadie's three children.

"Mrs. Potter, Mr. Potter, please!" the bodyguard eagerly greeted them.

"Ugh, never taking the train again. It's filthy, full of low-class trash," Leah muttered, covering her nose with a handkerchief.

"Yes, if it weren't for the weather, Mr. Ronan Potter would never have let you and Mr. Billy Potter suffer." one bodyguard explained.

Surrounded by bodyguards, Leah led Billy into the luxury car. The mother and son were very arrogant, not sparing a glance at anyone else, naturally not noticing Sadie in the crowd.

"What is going on?" Brenda recognized Leah and exclaimed, "Was that Ms. White? Did she marry Mr. Potter?"

Sadie's heart sank. The sounds ahead gradually blurred, and all she could hear was the violent beating of her heart. She still remembered Ronan holding her, promising to love her for a lifetime. But now, Ronan was really with Leah, and even their son had grown so much.

Sadie stood there, her eyes vacant, her heart full of bitterness. Seeing their mother's distress, her three children surrounded her. "Mommy's fine," she assured them, wiping her eyes and hugging them tightly.

"Mom, don't be sad," Noah, her eldest, said. "When I grow up, I'll buy you a luxury car so you won't have to work so hard." Nathan, ever the protector, raised a tiny fist. "Mommy, I'll beat up anyone who bullies you!" And little Mia, rubbing her face softly against Sadie's, simply murmured, "Mommy, don't cry."

"Don't cry!" echoed a small green parrot emerging from Mia's pocket, its head cocked curiously.

"Alright, Mommy isn't crying," Sadie took a deep breath and smiled. "Come on, let's go home."

"Home!" the children chorused. A cab arrived, and they piled in, Sadie's heart still heavy.

Their driver, a bit reckless, hit the gas hard, speeding through traffic. The children's cheerful chatter in the backseat did little to ease her tension. As they approached a red light, he didn't slow down but tried to overtake dangerously.

"Hey, slow down!" Sadie shouted, her alarm spiking. But the cab driver ignored her, accelerating instead. In a terrifying blur, the car crashed into a Rolls-Royce parked by the roadside.
