Chapter 5 Starting the Job
Sadie and the man fell heavily to the ground, her vision blurred.
The crowd erupted in shock, everyone staring at the scene in disbelief. Sadie struggled to lift her head and saw a moment of confusion flash across the middle-aged man's face as if he was stunned by what had just happened.
"I... I just wanted revenge," he murmured, his voice filled with helplessness and despair.
Sadie felt a pang of sorrow in her heart. She stood up, trying to remain calm. Edmond had once told her that the business world was like a battlefield, but at this moment, it felt more like hell.
One wrong step, and you could fall into an abyss of no return. And the mysterious man in the Phantom car was the devil controlling fate.
Unfortunately, the poor had to work for the devil to make a living.
However, despite the chaos, the so-called devil, Micah, sped away in his Rolls-Royce without a second glance. Security quickly subdued the distraught man. His angry roars faded into the heavy atmosphere, mingling with the car's exhaust, as he was dragged off like a beaten dog by the guards.
After the commotion, just as Sadie left Skyline Tower, her phone suddenly vibrated. She opened it to see a notification from the kindergarten about a fee deduction. Her heart tightened, and as her balance decreased, her anxiety grew.
"The Tuition fee was $20,000, and there is only $1,988 left in the account, not much," she muttered to herself, a hint of helplessness on her face. Three kids' formula costs nearly $2,000 a month, not to mention living expenses.
Defeated by life, Sadie took a deep breath and silently encouraged herself, 'It's just VIC Group, just Samuel. In broad daylight, with so many people going to work together, what could he possibly do to me?'
Early the next morning, Sadie arrived at the VIC Group ahead of time. While waiting for the elevator in the lobby, she saw a group of bodyguards escorting a man to the VIP elevator not far away.
Wherever that man went, all the staff lowered their heads and greeted respectfully, "Good morning, Mr. Clemens!"
Due to the distance and angle, she couldn't see the man's face clearly, but she knew it was Micah, the president of VIC Group.
The distance was too far, and the angle was tricky so that Sadie couldn't see his face, but she felt his figure resemble that of a male escort.
However, Sadie quickly dismissed the thought. Why did every tall and strong man remind her of that male escort from years ago? How could a president who commanded the business world be a male escort from a nightclub?
On her first day at work, Sadie saw Samuel again. "Ms. Roth, welcome to VIC Group," Samuel's voice carried a hint of amusement. As he spoke, he moved closer to Sadie, his eyes showing an unusual look. "I hope you can quickly adapt to the work environment here."
Despite feeling extremely uncomfortable, Sadie tried to suppress her emotions. She replied faintly, "Thank you, I will work hard." For the sake of the salary, she had to. Of course, she didn't say the last part out loud; she only silently calculated how to manage her monthly living expenses.
After completing the onboarding process, Sadie felt a slight relief. Although she didn't want to face Samuel, she knew she had to work hard to integrate into this new environment.
"Sadie, welcome to VIC Group! Our administration department is very united, so feel free to come to us if you have any questions," a colleague greeted her warmly, eyes full of friendliness.
"Thank you, everyone. I will work hard!" Sadie said, feeling a touch of warmth in her heart.
"As usual, we have a welcome ceremony for new employees. Do you have time?" a colleague asked.
Sadie smiled. "Of course, no problem. I'll treat everyone!"
"Nice! Let's go after work!" the colleague laughed.
Sadie nodded. "Sure!"
