Chapter 6 Elevator Terror

After work, Sadie was still busy organizing her materials. Her colleagues had already gone downstairs, leaving her alone in the office. She was secretly anxious, wanting to finish her work quickly to avoid leaving a bad impression on her colleagues.

"Hurry up, Sadie, don't keep us waiting too long!" a colleague shouted from the door.

"Almost done!" Sadie responded, trying to speed up her actions. She knew that time would not wait for anyone, and she had to finish quickly to attend the new employee gathering.

After organizing the last document, Sadie hurriedly left the office and ran toward the elevator. Preoccupied with work, she didn't notice that she had entered the CEO's private elevator.

"This is the CEO's private elevator. Please leave," the bodyguard scolded.

"Huh?" Before Sadie could react, Micah in the elevator gave a look, and the bodyguard immediately understood and stopped his actions.

"Sorry, I didn't notice," Sadie stammered, her voice trembling slightly. But the elevator doors were already closing, and it was too late for her to get out, even if she wanted to.

Micah slightly turned his head, his gaze sharp as a knife, seemingly scrutinizing her.

Micah's gaze felt like needles in her back, but remembering the employees' attitude toward him in the morning, Sadie didn't dare to look at him and could only stare straight ahead at the changing numbers on the wall.

As the elevator slowly descended, Sadie's mood grew heavier. She almost felt the tension in the air. She tried to stay calm, but her inner anxiety was hard to conceal. She silently prayed for this moment to pass quickly.

The elevator finally reached the first floor, and as the doors opened, Sadie almost bolted out. Her steps were hurried, and she wanted to leave the suffocating space immediately.

Her heart was in chaos, and she didn't even notice the ground ahead. Just as she was about to fall, Sadie tried to steady herself, but she overestimated her balance—She fell flat on the ground like a frog!

There was a commotion outside the door, and a group of employees from the regular elevator gasped, some covering their mouths to stifle laughter.

Micah was slightly taken aback, a faint smile of amusement appearing on his lips.

Sadie felt her face heat, her heart in even more disarray. She quickly got up, not daring to lift her head, and ran off, wishing she could find a place to hide. She thought to herself, 'How embarrassing, making a fool of myself in front of the CEO. Will he fire me?'

Micah watched Sadie's fleeing figure and turned to his assistant, "Check her background." The assistant immediately nodded, quickly taking out his phone to search for Sadie's background information. Micah's gaze remained on the elevator door, seemingly deep in thought.

Shortly after, the assistant turned back and respectfully reported, "Mr. Clemens, she is the one who pulled Darian Torres away from the crowd today. She has completed her onboarding procedures today and works as a secretary on the thirteenth floor. Her name is Sadie."

Sadie had thought the so-called welcome party would be a dinner at a restaurant, but it turned out to be a night of drinking at a nightclub. To her dismay, Samuel was there too. She whined inwardly, 'Why is the HR department involved in the admin department's gathering?' She was displeased, but with her colleagues around, she couldn't tell Samuel to leave.

As Sadie walked into the bar, she was greeted by lively music, flashing lights, and a vibrant atmosphere. The table was already filled with expensive drinks, almost covering the entire surface.

"Mr. Brown, isn't it a bit much to order so many drinks?" a colleague asked. "We're just having a gathering; there's no need to be so extravagant."

Samuel, however, didn't care, a contemptuous smile playing on his lips. He said meaningfully, "Why not? Sadie is a trust fund baby; she can handle any drink."

At this, the surrounding colleagues exchanged glances, surprise, and curiosity flashing in their eyes. Sadie's heart tightened, sensing trouble.

"Edmond, the richest man in Newark, and she's his daughter, you must have heard of her, right?" Samuel continued, his tone slightly provocative. "Not just these few bottles. She could cover the whole bill!"

"You mean the Edmond who jumped off a building four years ago?" a male colleague suddenly realized and muttered, "No wonder Sadie's name sounded familiar."

"I think I saw that news back then. They said the Roth family's young lady was dumped by her fiance and went to a nightclub to find a male escort. Is that true?" a colleague began to ask, curiosity and scrutiny in their tone.

Sadie's face instantly turned pale, a wave of shame and anger surging within her. The events of four years ago flooded back, and she struggled to hide her unease but found nowhere to hide. She couldn't listen any longer and got up to leave.
