Chapter 1 How Could She Be So Ugly?

"Alright, fine, I'll marry him," Reese Brooks muttered, her face throbbing with pain. She glared at her stepmother, Nancy Smith, with eyes that could cut glass. Just dragged back from the sticks by her dad, Kenneth Brooks, to The Brooks Villa, and now this? She had to step in for her sister, Dahlia Brooks, and marry some man who couldn't even walk?

Dahlia was supposed to marry the paralyzed guy, but then she got a better deal with the Morris family. And somehow, that became Reese's problem? At first, she was like, "No way."

Ever since Kenneth hitched up with Nancy, Reese and her grandma got shipped off to the boonies. He didn't give a damn about her, and she had to fend for herself. So, during these tough years, she became capable enough to buy the whole city if she felt like it.

Nancy, with her smug face, acted like Reese hit the jackpot marrying into the powerful Flynn family. What a joke. Couldn't they see the difference? Reese's grandma always said that even though Reese lived out in the country, she never looked like it. She had this vibe, this aura, and her delicate features could charm anyone.

Thinking about her grandma made Reese's blood boil. She clenched her fists so hard her knuckles turned white. Two months ago, her grandma went to the city and never came back. She died, just like that. Then, they dragged Reese back from the countryside.

Reese had one goal coming back to The Brooks Villa: find out what really happened to her grandma. Nancy mentioned that the last place her grandma visited was The Flynn Villa.

Just because Reese had snapped, "Even if I have to marry into the Flynn family, it's not up to a homewrecker like you to boss me around," Kenneth had slapped her so hard her head spun.

Nancy's smug face was unbearable. She sauntered over, trying to place a hand on Reese's shoulder, but Reese dodged it like it was the plague.

They all knew how much her grandma meant to her, and that she'd cave in and agree to the marriage. But Reese made a silent vow to uncover the truth about her grandma's death and make whoever was responsible pay.

And that slap? She'd remember it.

The next morning, Kenneth didn't even bother to see her off. He just sent a driver to take Reese straight to The Flynn Villa. No wedding ceremony, nothing. It was like he was scared she'd back out last minute. He didn't even check how she was dressed.

When the Flynn family saw Reese, their jaws hit the floor. How could she be so ugly? Did Aiden Flynn even know what he was getting into?

She had these huge black-framed glasses covering most of her face, her skin was dark and spotty, and she was wearing a floral top with loose black bell-bottom pants. She looked like she just stepped out of a time machine from the countryside.

If it weren't for the Brooks family driver, they would've thought a beggar had wandered in by mistake.

Butler Jason Tartt adjusted his glasses, trying to keep his cool, and led Reese inside with a bow. He might've been judging her hard on the inside, but he had to keep up appearances.

Reese was loving their reactions. She raised an eyebrow and strutted through the gates of The Flynn Villa.
