Chapter 2 Fearless
"Alright, follow me to meet Mr. Flynn."
Jason, all respectful and proper, led Reese inside. The Flynn Villa, smack dab in the ritzy part of downtown, was worth a cool billion. Reese took a quick look around and, yeah, it was massive. The decor was low-key, but the furniture screamed money.
As they strolled, Jason started his spiel, "So, here's the deal with Mr. Flynn. He got into a nasty car wreck earlier this year and now he's paralyzed from the waist down. No feeling at all. We really need Mrs. Flynn to take good care of him."
"And, uh, Mr. Malcolm Flynn's got a temper. Mrs. Reese Flynn, you better not tick him off, or even Mr. Aiden Flynn won't be able to help you."
"And another thing..."
Jason kept droning on, probably thinking he was being helpful, but Reese saw right through him.
"Are you done? If so, just point me to his room."
Reese cut him off, cold and impatient. She was all about getting things done, no time for pointless chatter.
Jason was taken aback, staring at Reese like she'd grown a second head. Everyone in the Flynn family knew Jason had been with Aiden since forever and was now a big deal in the household. Nobody dared to cross him, and everyone treated him with kid gloves. But this country girl...
Reese gave him a look.
It was a calm look, but it sent shivers down Jason's spine, like she had murder in her eyes. How could she look at him like that?
Jason felt a chill run down his back. He snapped out of it, remembering where he was, and cleared his throat.
"I'm the butler here. If you need anything, just let me know. When Mr. Aiden Flynn isn't around, I run the show."
Was he trying to say that besides Aiden, he was the top dog in the Flynn family? Reminding Reese to show him some respect?
Reese shot him a frosty look and nodded, "Just tell me which room it is. I'll handle it myself."
Jason didn't expect Reese to be so bold, carrying herself with an air of untouchability. Especially those clear, pure eyes of hers—they made people think twice about crossing her.
He had no choice but to bow his head and lead Reese forward. As he opened the door, a nasty, stale smell hit them, and it was pitch black inside. Despite the bright sunshine outside, the room felt like a freezer, making him shiver.
She turned to Jason and said, "Mr. Tartt, you can go now. I want to talk to my husband alone."
Jason looked puzzled. Were country girls this gutsy nowadays? She hadn't even met him yet and was already calling him husband like it was nothing?
Seeing Jason still standing there, Reese teased, "Mr. Tartt, you planning to stick around for the show?"
Jason shrank back and coughed awkwardly. How could the Brooks family be so fearless? Dismissing him right after stepping in, truly bold.
At that moment, a calm voice came from inside, "Mr. Tartt, you can leave now."
"But Mr. Flynn, she..."
"Leave!" followed by a light cough.
Reese felt a chill run down her spine. She couldn't help but glance at the bed, but the stale smell and dim light made it hard to see. She walked over and yanked the curtains open.
Reese said, "Getting some fresh air in here will help the patient recover better."
Jason, who was about to leave, paused. Was she seriously criticizing his methods right in front of Malcolm?
"Mr. Flynn doesn't like sunlight, so he orders us to keep the curtains closed every day. Mrs. Flynn just got here and doesn't understand the situation yet, so it's better not to mess with things too much."
