4. Secret Agent
At the police station-the narcotics division is investigating the illegal drugs that have been spreading widely lately, causing many casualties.
"Because people have died, it's difficult to trace the suppliers," says a young police detective as he scrolls through a computer screen.
"The person who gave the mask to the swimming teacher also used a fake identity," Danni added beside his men.
"Even though we know in the end that this all leads to the dealer, Alex Matthew, we can't prove anything," he continued. "Not only is he powerful with his position and money, there's not enough evidence."
The subordinate nodded. "Exactly.”
"But we must not give up hope. We can't let more victims fall. I'm also sure that victims we've found didn't consume it intentionally."
"For example, with the drugs contained in the masks," she continued.
"Like that swimming teacher."
"But it's also possible that many of them intentionally consumed it in other forms." Danni rubbed her face roughly. He was stunned for a moment. "The death rate is severe. After all, I've never come across a drug with such a strong lethal effect before."
The subordinate blew out his breath roughly. "How does this drug cycle work?"
Dani chuckled. She tilted her head for a moment as she scavenged for hypotheses. "I'm not sure either. Some of them take effect in two days. Some take three days."
Danni went back to thinking about things in her head. "But one thing I do understand." She turned her head, looking at her men. "Of all the things that happened, the user must have drunk a lot of water and ended up dead."
"Hey! Hey! Why are you guys so desperate just because our opponent is a millionaire?" Suddenly, the commandant came over.
"We are not desperate. Just thinking."
The commandant chuckled. "What then? We still haven't found any bright spots while the casualties continue to mount, commandant?" the others exclaimed.
"That's right. Then what information did you get? You said you hired a secret agent?" Danni added.
"Genie Market."
"What? Genie Market?"
"My agent told me that the supermarket is said to be one of the suppliers of drugs," the Commandant explained in a low voice.
Danni's eyebrows drew together. "Is your agent trustworthy?"
"Hey, turd!" The Commandant punched Danni on the shoulder. "If they can't, then I won't pay them?”
"You know what? I don't use secret agents because I don't trust myself or even you. I do it to help with this investigation. The rest, we can move on," the commandant added by way of explanation. "Besides, you have to understand that our opponents are not ordinary people."
"Okay. We understand."
Knock! Knock!
"Yes?"
"Excuse me. Detective Danni has a guest waiting downstairs."
"Okay. Thank you." Danni then asked the commandant for permission. "Please allow me a moment to go downstairs."
"Go ahead. But don't take too long."
Danni was eager to go down to meet the guest. Even without being told the guest's identity, he already knew who it was.
"My dear, Irene!" The man with shady eyes and dark hair lit up when he found his wife waiting downstairs.
Without saying a word, Irene immediately stood up to greet her husband and hugged him so tightly that they were the center of attention of all the police officers and some civilians.
"S-Sweetheart...?" Danni was giving Irene the code to break the hug because he was still on o'clock.
The two had always agreed to remain professional since Danni was a police officer.
"I know!" said Irene. She buried her head between her husband's neck and head. It felt warm and fragrant. "Keep it like this. Just for a while."
Danni was stunned for a while as he sensed a different scent on his wife's body. But he didn't want to get too carried away. This was not the right time to ask her anything. They were still at Danni's workplace.
As much as she couldn't bear it, Danni finally pulled away from the hug. He could see his wife's sour face. Danni grasped both her shoulders, staring intently.
"Irene, I'm sorry."
"I know. At least I feel at ease when I have you in my arms," said the beautiful woman.
"Is there a problem? Did your mission fail?" Danni confirmed.
Irene smiled bitterly as she shook her head. "I just missed you."
Danni cursed herself for working so much overtime that she rarely came home. "I'm sorry, dear. I..."
"I know. Your job needs you." Irene smiled. She straightened her husband's clothes. "I'm proud of you."
"Really?"
"Yes. I'm proud of you, miss you."
"Irene." Danni called softly. Argh! Irene missed that too.
"I'm not working overtime tomorrow. So, we can have dinner together. Ah, I mean... I don't have overtime, but I have to go back to the office after dinner. How about it?"
"I really want to do it. But you'll get tired if you have to go back and forth."
"Of course not. For the sake of my beloved wife, I'll be exhausted."
Irene's cheeks were rosy. "Argh! I feel like kissing my husband."
"Hey! Not here."
"I know!"
"Hey, Danni! What took you so long...?" The voice cut off as they all faced each other.
"O-oh?" Irene's eyes widened.
"You know him? He's my commandant."
The commandant approached, then bowed politely before Irene which made Danni widen her eyes. Although shocked, she eventually understood the situation.
"So your secret agent is agent 00?!" insisted Danni as the three of them were beside the police station. The man looked angry. His jaw hardened.
"Yes."
"Irene! You said you only work to solve theft and infidelity cases. But what?!"
Irene bit her lower lip.
Danni let out a rough breath. "Did I tell you to stay out of dangerous cases, dear?"
"I'm not working on any cases right now. I'm bored, Danni!"
Danni ruffled his hair in frustration. His wife was stubborn.
"Why would I be given skills I don't use?" Irene continued. "I'm going to make a lot of money on this case anyway."
"I didn't know she was your wife either!" said the Commandant. "I only heard from my relative who hired agent 00 to tail his cheating wife and it worked."
"But we're dealing with a dangerous drug case, Commandant!"
"If I knew she was your wife, then I wouldn't have used his services either."
Danni couldn't think any further. "That's it. Stay out of our business with 88 Corps, Irene!"
“What?”
