Chapter seven: So it was all a dream

(Ellen's POV)

As we presided to the exit door, I felt butterflies in my belly.

I could not accept what just transpired. Ellen, an ordinary lycan with no relatives, stands up to Alpha Greg of the Bloodmoon Pack and casts off his offer. That was the bravest measure I had ever taken and I am very confident I would never regret it.

No one had ever defended or adored me the way the King of Lycan just did.

Glancing at him, I let out a smile one could characterize as consolation. But I detected something. During our walk, he put on an expressionless countenance.

"Should he not be happy I'm with him? What's with the face?" I said, speaking to myself. As if he read my mind, he uttered a sentence that took me aback.

"That bloody animal! Where did he get the effrontery to raise his filthy hands on my woman?!" He stopped immediately, making me bump into him. "Ouch!" I exclaimed, rubbing my temples.

I unhurriedly raised my head to peek at him and all I could notice was a face with sympathy and love. It was not apparent but I could see through him. He looked down and grasped both of my hands, then, had his gaze on me, again.

"Did you accept me because you wanted to get away from him or..." "No. I did because I want to be with you." I said, cutting his sentence short. Just like I expected, he let out a smile and nodded his head in affirmation. "Good." the Lycan King said. "I am just surprised to see you come so fast," I muttered, slowly.

The Lycan King stared at me and grinned.

"You said a lot about Alpha Greg when you were Barfly and it made me realize how much you have endured while with him. Since I met you, I have been thinking of how to take you away from him." He spoke, convincingly.

If you must ask me, I am more than awestruck. I never figured out there would be a Lycan King with a heart of gold. How on earth did I begin the voyage of my life with a bully and tormentor who does not care about me? Anyways, I want to believe it's all in the past now. Although, I am conscious that Alpha Greg was not going to relent in any way. But I am more than prepared for what is coming.

"I have been waiting for my soulmate for years that appeared not to come..." he said, snapping me out of my thoughts. "But here I am, standing in front of what still looks like a fantasy to me." he continued, smiling.

"I am delighted as well," I said, hoping my utterances were able to make him feel guaranteed. Honestly, I was speechless and found it hard to utter the right words. "I...umm...I think we should leave this premise." I said, withdrawing one of my hands from his grip as I slightly rubbed the back of my neck.

I was scared Alpha Greg would come to take me away from him. Surprisingly, the Lycan king gave a reaction I found disproportionate at that moment. He laughed.

"Are you scared he might come to take you away?" he said in a way that confirmed he read my mind. "Not ...not...that. I just..." "I comprehend where you are coming from," he said, interrupting me. "Thank goodness," I said in my mind. I was not ready to elucidate further because I was already weary.

"So let us...." he was about to utter something when we heard a minor cough behind us. It was Beta Ernest.

Wait....do not tell me he had been standing there for some time because that was the expression on his face. "My King, I..." he stopped to cough gently and proceeded. "I think it is time to go." completing the sentence in a way that indicated sarcasm.

"Shit! He has been standing for what seemed like infinity." I said within me, feeling embarrassed. "Oh, okay then. Let's. Commence going." the Lycan King said. Beta Ernest heeded and directed the way to the car."

I entered into it and abruptly felt a rush of excitement in my body. That happened not because of luxury but because I was finally leaving the beast's place. Still feels like a dream to me.

Getting prepared to move, I relaxed my head on the upper part of the soothing seat. Sighing, I slowly shut my eyes, drifting away to sleep.

"Do you not know the consequences of what you have done?!" he shouted furiously as he clenched his fist aggressively.

Panicking, I hastily crawled to where he was standing. With sweat dripping from my head down to my feet, I cried with the last strength I had.

I could see the determination to get me killed in his eyes. He was dead serious and immediately, I knew I was already a lump of dead meat. "Please...please.." I said, locking my fingers together as I lay on the bare floor.

Suddenly, I felt a grip on the back of my neck. It was hard for me to breathe and I felt choked up. He held me up high, making my legs swing in the space. I was already losing my breath and could not take it anymore.

He vehemently put me close to his face and I could feel the heated air coming out of his nostrils.

"You dared to choose that idiot over me!?" Alpha Greg said as he compressed the hell out of my neck. "It is obvious you do not have fear of being slain by me." he continued, slowly dropping me to the ground. "Please...I beg of you." I said sobbing.

No strength left. I was exhausted.

In no time, a slap that seemed to reset my body system landed on my face. That part of my face became emotionless.

Within seconds, I received the first blow on my stomach. It was an excruciating distress I definitely would not desire for anyone to encounter. As if that was not sufficient, he made it eviler as other punches ensued.

I implored and cried for help but was not heard. I could not put up with it anymore. Any seconds from now, I could give up the ghost. He chuckled hysterically, lifting my head with one of his fingers.

This time around, my face was already covered with blood coming from my face openings. "You deserve to die." Alpha Greg said as he lifted his right hand to give me the last hit.

"I am sorry, do...not...kill me.." I spoke with the last energy I had.

“Ellen, Ellen." I heard my name, faintly. I struggled to raise my head. Opening my eyes, I saw the Lycan King's face, beaming with a smile.

"We have arrived at our destination," he said, assisting me to sit up.

I looked at him in astonishment.

"So it was all a dream..." I muttered, looking at him.
