Chapter 4
Sunset Bay Hospital was a private institution established by Martin for his son Randy, located in the heart of Sunset Bay. It gathered the most authoritative cardiology experts and professors from across the country.
During her four years in Auroria, Patricia had been diligently studying cardiac surgery, hoping that one day she could personally operate on Randy and give him a healthy body.
Finally, she became one of the world's leading cardiac surgeons.
A week ago, she received an invitation from Martin to treat Randy.
The hospital director, Lambert Griffin, had long heard of Patricia's esteemed position in the medical field and greeted her warmly, "Professor Watson, hello. Finally. We've been expecting your arrival."
Patricia apologized, "Sorry about the lateness. There were many handovers at my previous hospital."
Lambert quickly responded, "It's all right, I understand! Let me take you to your workplace. You gotta get familiar with it and your future colleagues first, right?"
Patricia nodded and followed him for a tour of the outpatient department first.
When they reached the inpatient department, Lambert joked, "Before you arrived, Debbie was the youngest professor in our hospital. I always thought it was impressive for someone her age to become an associate professor. But you surpassed her. You're a professor at an even younger age."
"Debbie?" Patricia frowned slightly.
At that moment, they happened to reach the door of the doctor's office.
Lambert pointed inside and said, "You'll soon meet her."
With that, he led Patricia inside and introduced everyone present. After the introductions, he noticed Debbie wasn't there and asked, "Where is Debbie?"
A male doctor adjusted his glasses and replied, "Randy is missing. Debbie and Mr. Langley went to look for him."
Hearing this, Patricia became nervous and worried, wondering, 'Randy? Is he talking about my Randy?'
She asked, "Randy is missing? Where did he go? Everything's okay with him?"
Lambert rubbed his temples and replied, "No need to worry. He is just throwing a tantrum. This happens every week. Sneaking back home. Well, he has nowhere else to go."
"Every week?" Patricia's heart ached.
She thought Randy must be unable to bear the pain of his illness. That was why he often sneaked away.
At the thought of this, she couldn't help being worried.
Lambert advised Patricia, "This hospital was built by Mr. Langley for Randy, and Debbie is Randy's aunt. Remember, Randy is a very stubborn boy, so you gotta be careful."
Patricia exclaimed in surprise, "That's her!"
Lambert nodded. "Yes. She's kinda expert in cardiology, a talented beauty."
A cold glint flashed in Patricia's eyes.
She sneered in her heart, 'Well, being Debbie's colleague again! And my level is higher than hers. Interesting, isn't it?'
Patricia roughly familiarized herself with the hospital, confirmed her start date with Lambert, and then prepared to go home.
As she walked to the parking lot, she saw a familiar little face. A little boy was craning his neck, looking at something.
Patricia thought, 'He's...Charles? Oh, come on!'
She angrily walked over and tweaked his ear. "Charles, didn't I tell you to stay at home? Why did you still follow me?"
Randy's handsome little face scrunched up.
"You..." Randy tilted his head, angry. But when he saw Patricia's face, he was stunned. Various emotions flashed in his eyes, from initial anger to surprise, then disbelief, and finally, pure grievance.
"Mommy," Randy instinctively called out.
No one knew how many times he had uttered this unfamiliar address, but no one had ever responded. From childhood to now, he had always envied those children who had a mommy!
Seeing Randy like this, Patricia couldn't bear to scold him anymore. She bent down, picked him up, and gently blew on his ear.
"Sorry, did I hurt you just now? I'm so sorry," she apologized.
"You...you really are my mommy?" Randy asked cautiously.
Although it was their first meeting, he felt her voice was so familiar, as if he had heard it countless times in his dreams.
Patricia sighed resignedly. "What? You don't even recognize your own mommy?"
Upon hearing this, Randy couldn't hold back his tears anymore. He hugged Patricia's neck tightly, repeatedly calling out, "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy..."
It seemed he wanted to shout out all the longing he had felt over the years.
Patricia's heart softened. She gently patted Randy's back. "All right, stop crying. Just don't run off next time."
Randy cried for a while before letting go of Patricia.
Patricia patted his little head and said gently, "Let's go home. I'll make you something delicious."
Randy nodded quietly.
After putting Randy in the passenger seat, Patricia got into the driver's seat.
Randy tilted his head, unable to take his eyes off Patricia's face.
Patricia didn't say anything, just finding him very adorable.
Meanwhile, Martin had sent people to search all the places Randy might've gone, but they still couldn't find him. Martin's face grew grimmer.
His subordinates were so scared they didn't dare to breathe heavily.
Debbie walked over to comfort him, "Martin, Randy will be fine. He had no money, so he couldn't have gone far. He must be somewhere around the hospital."
As she spoke, she silently cursed in her heart, hoping Randy would die outside.
That way, when she married Martin in the future, their child would be the rightful heir.
Just then, Alan hurried in.
"Boss, we checked all the surveillance around and finally found Randy!"
He then inserted a USB drive into the computer and opened the video.
Martin's eyes seemed to be even colder after he watched it.
It was all because he saw Patricia!
"Martin, is that Patricia? She's returned? And she took Randy away?" Debbie's eyes widened in shock when she saw Patricia.
Debbie never expected that Patricia, who had been missing for five years, would suddenly return.
The cold light in Martin's eyes was terrifying. He ordered Alan expressionlessly, "Call the police!"
Alan was stunned.
"Really? Call the police?" he asked hesitantly.
Meanwhile, he shouted in his heart, 'But she's Mrs. Langley! Randy's biological mother!'
Martin raised an eyebrow coldly. "Didn't hear me? Want me to say it again?"
Alan broke out in a cold sweat and immediately took out his phone to call the police.
Debbie looked at Martin's stern face and deliberately provoked, "Martin, why did Patricia suddenly come back? Is she trying to take Randy from you?"
Martin stared at the screen and suddenly chuckled sneeringly.
"Take Randy? As if she could!"
With that, he grabbed his car keys and left.
Watching Martin leave, Debbie was so angry that she trembled all over, clenching her fists tightly.
She snorted in her heart, 'It's been five years, and Patricia has really come back! Trying to win Martin back? No way! The game is just on, Patricia. We'll wait and see!'
