chapter 1: Prayed

Reene’s pov

“Goodbye Grandmother, I will see you after work,” I said drinking the last drop of my apple juice and then kissing my grandmother on the forehead.

I was raised by my grandmother ever since I was an infant.

I think my mother died when I was born but my grandmother doesn’t want to talk about it.

Actually, no one talks about it.

I think the people in my coven don’t talk about anything at all.

I can feel it in my bones, there are things they don’t tell us at all.

Which is probably why I am always in trouble with the coven.

I try to uncover the truths that they have hidden from us.

I sound like some researcher don’t I?

But I am not, I just completed my nursing degree and started working as a nurse at the Coven Clinic.

We supernatural beings like isolating ourselves.

Just imagine a town far from everything.

Where tourists are largely frowned upon and if you come without special permission everyone looks at you like you have committed a mortal sin.

Yes, that’s the kind of place I live in. where everyone knows everyone.

You would expect people to constantly be in each other’s business.

But that’s not how things roll around here, you can tell that they are hiding something.

I hear them all the time, the whispers as I pass by, and they talk about my mother.

I don’t what she did, but I do know that it has given them a reason to hate me.

“Hello, sister Reene,” my friend Viola said with a big smile on her face.

She looked good in the nurse uniform.

Her blonde hair was tied up nicely like she was going to some gala dinner.

Viola and I are joined by the hip, we even went to the same college and decided to come and work as nurses in our town.

Supernatural beings are always at war witch means that they need healers.

We went to nursing school because we also wanted to learn a few things from humans.

Plus considering that I am always getting in trouble with my coven members it’s a perfect plan B for me.

If I ever get banished then I could just go and live in a human town like a normal human.

I hope the day never comes.

Although I know that not everyone in my coven isn't cozy to me I love this place.

I love being a witch and all the things I can do with my magic to help people.

With magic people can spend a lifetime together in just a few seconds.

It was done when people died young and didn’t make enough memories with their loved ones.

With just a few words and a raise of your hands, those two people can spend a lifetime together in a matter of seconds.

Isn’t that beautiful?

“I am so nervous about today,” I said to Viola who just smiled.

“Don’t be, you are the best healer the coven has. And once they realize your potential they will invite you back to train with us” she said hugging me.

I just nodded as we continued walking to the small-town clinic.

I have been banished from training.

If I am found training then I will get into trouble.

It’s all because I almost burned down the training center, like twice or more than that.

It’s not my fault that I can’t control my magic.

Ever since then I have been forbidden to even train at all.

I am not even allowed to train alone, so other than the medicinal part of being a witch I am technically human.

But of course, there is no way I have listened to them.

I have been training alone in secret ever since they stopped me when I was like 16 years old.

There is a spot in the woods where I go and train every day and I have better control of my magic.

I will show them one day, that I am so much stronger now and have better control.

So they let me train with the coven members.

“I really wish that you could come back, Sara is still getting on my last nerve,” Viola said during our lunch break.

“What did she do?,” I asked her hiding my smile as Viola went on about training and everyone she hated there.

“Wow, sounds like you have it bad. You and Sara have such strong opinions. I am sure that you will get along,” I said, and she just rolled her eyes.

“Never, I can’t stand her if I am being honest with you. She thinks that just because she is marrying Lewis soon she is the Queen of everyone,” Viola replied.

,

“I mean she will be the Queen of everyone. Lewis will be the head of the coven, making her the neck or spine” I said, and Viola threw her bread at me.

“How can you not hate her? She is marrying the guy you have had a crush on since like forever,” she said to me.

“It’s not her fault that I haven’t told Lewis that I like him. It’s not her fault that the ship sailed” I answered, and she looked at me and smiled.

“You are the kindest person I have ever met in this world,” she said, and we finished up and went back to work.

After work, on my way home I pass by a forest since our home is just a little bit outside of town.

Although I am tired I really need to catch up to everyone in the coven.

Viola said that they have training today so every time they train I also train as well.

I put down my bags and started practicing a few spells that allowed us to bend the elements of nature at our will.

“I know she is here training somewhere, I heard someone say that they saw her” I heard someone scream at the top of their lungs.

That voice, I know it very well and if she finds me they won’t spare me.

They have made it clear that I shouldn’t train at all let alone in a forest alone.

What if I accidentally start a fire and burn the entire place down?

Vickie is one of the leader’s advisors and for some reason, she can’t stand me.

“Really Vickie, I don’t think that she would do anything to disobey us. We gave her direct orders” Isaac Hale said.

What?

She bought the coven leader, Isaac Hale is Lewis’s father.

If they both see me then I am screwed and there is no way I can run away.

They will see me and if they chase after me then I am royally screwed as well.

I need a plan; I need to find a way to escape here.

I picked up my bag and looked around looking for a place to hide so that they don’t see me.

Can the ground just open up and swallow me?

Why me?

I am doomed aren’t I?

“I think I saw her; I think I saw someone behind that tree” Vickie said and my heart sank.

I am done aren’t I?

Now they will do worse than asking me to stop using my magic.

They will take my magic away from me and I will be left powerless.

Can the ground open up and swallow me?

“Behind that tree, come on” Vickie said, and I closed my eyes and braced for my punishment.

I am doomed so I might as well go out with a bang.

There is no bang here, I will forever be a shame to my coven and my grandmother. S

uddenly I realized that it was just too quiet for my liking.

I remember their footsteps were coming towards me and the forest was full of birds.

I mean I have accidentally fried a few by mistake but there is still plenty of them around.

So why is it this quiet?

And it’s been like 3 minutes if not more then why haven’t they found me yet?

I slowly opened my eyes and almost jumped when I found a strange guy staring at me.

He seemed shocked just looking at me but didn’t say anything and was just glaring is actually more like it.

I looked around and It was as if I was nowhere and everywhere at the same time.

The energy in this place is actually crazy.

I still had my bad with me, I smiled when I realized that they didn’t find me.

Somehow the universe opened up and swallowed me whole.

“Yes, ohhh thank whatever gods witches pray to” I said and got up.

We dont have gods but we do have ancestors.

The man just looked at me and frowned.

Okay, all I need to do is wait for a few minutes then I can go back.

I looked at the man, he sized me up and down.

“Hello I am Reene” I said to him and looked around.

How did I get here?

last time I remember I was back at home.

And I didn’t even say any spells but just prayed for the ground to swallow me.

I looked at the man and he didn’t say anything but just closed his eyes.

Okay so he is not the talkative kind from what I picked up;

Well he is handsome I will give him that. Blue eyes.

It is as if they could see right through my soul but not in a good way.

As if he is judging me somehow.

“How did you get here? no one has been here for almost 2 decades” he said opening his eyes and looking straight at me.

“I honestly don’t know how I got here, I guess you would say I prayed” I replied looking around.

“You prayed?” he asked like he couldn’t believe my answer and I nodded.

“what is this place? And what are you doing here? did you say two decades? And how do I go back?” I asked out loud.
