Chapter 4

I could see the desperation in Elijah's eyes as he asked me to help Alpha Henrick heal from his past. He thought I could do it because I looked like Savannah, the Lycan king’s daughter who rejected him. He wanted to make Alpha feel like he is worth to love and accept this time. He begged me to make Alpha fall in love with me.

“I know you can do this,” he said, his voice wavering.

“He needs someone to make him feel loved and appreciated, someone who can make him believe that there is still hope for women. I think you can do that,” Elijah convinced me.

But I told him that I could not do it, even if I looked like the Lycan King’s daughter, Savannah. He could not ask me to be her replacement. It was just too much.

“I can’t do that. I’m sorry but I don’t agree with you. He can heal himself by his own.” I protested.

“He should forgive her and forgive himself. If you want him to move on, help him to forget her instead of making him remember that woman,” I added.

“You don’t really understand, Clara” Elijah said seriously.

“I’m really sorry I cannot do that. He will only see her in me,” I refused.

“Do you think it’s impossible for you to fall in love with him?” he asked.

I stood there, tongue-tied and confused, unable to respond to his question. Alpha Henrick was the exact opposite of everything I had ever dreamed a man should be; an Alpha male like Henrick, with his arrogant attitude and polarizing views on the world, seemed like an unlikely candidate for a romantic relationship.

“And do you think your plan will going to work when it’s obvious that he hated me the most?” I asked him.

“You still didn’t answer my question but never mind,”he responded.

“Please, Clara. I hope this time you give in to me. I just want to make him feel loved,” he begged.

“She hate to see my face, Elijah!” I insisted.

“Just try please,” he begged again.

I couldn't just pretend that I like and care for an arrogant Alpha like him, I was not sure if I had it in me to do that. However, despite all my hesitations, I could see the desperation in Elijah's eyes, so I reluctantly agreed. I took a deep breath and looked Elijah straight in the eyes.

“Okay. I’ll do it if that’s the only way for me to pay my debt to you. I owed you a lot but I can’t promise anything,” I said. He smiled.

“Really?””he asked, in disbelief with joy in his eyes.

“Thank you, Clara. I really appreciate it.” I just hoped that this plan of Elijah’s would work. I was ready to take on the challenge of making Alpha Henrick fall in love with me, even if it meant pretending to love him.

Elijah was very thankful and his face showed the joy he felt at that time.

"Thank you so much, I'm willing to do everything just to make him happy," Elijah said.

I really admired how Elijah love and care for his best friend. But I don’t think his idea would work for an arrogant Alpha like Henrick. I took a deep breath and smiled sparingly. We did say goodbye to each other after our conversation.

I stood in the doorway of my mother's room, looking in at her silhouette illuminated in the moonlight shining through the window. She must have heard my presence, as she slowly turned to face me.

“What's wrong?” She asked, her voice soft and gentle.

I wanted to tell her about Elijah's favor, about how he had tried to make Alpha Henrick fall in love with me, and how he begged me to do that. But I couldn't bring myself to do it. Instead, I found myself walking across the room, my feet moving of their own accord.

I threw my arms around her, burying my face in her shoulder.

“I’m just so very happy,” I said, my voice muffled.

“Thanks to Elijah for saving your life.” I added.

She hugged me back, her arms wrapping around me in a comforting embrace. We stayed like that for a moment, and I felt the tears start to come. I tried to tell her about Elijah's favor, but the words wouldn't come. I just wanted to be held, and so I stayed in her arms, grateful for her presence.

“I love you,” she said, her voice full of emotion.

“I love you too, mom,” I responded.

“Tell me what’s in your mind, Clara.” she said, gently stroking my hair.

I took a deep breath and shook my head. “Nothing, Mom. I'm just so thankful you're here beside me.”

She pulled me into a warm embrace and held me until I felt safe and secure. I took comfort in her embrace and wished I could tell her everything that was going on. But I knew I couldn't burden her with my troubles and instead just enjoyed the moment.

For now, I was content to just hug my mom and feel her love and support. That was all I needed in that moment.

The sun had barely risen in the sky when I was jolted awake by a knock on my door. I stumbled out of bed and shuffled to the door, rubbing my eyes. When I opened it, I was met with Elijah's smiling face, a tray of food in his hands.

“Just do the first step,” he said, his eyes twinkling.

“Show him that you care.” he added.

I took a deep breath, my heart beating rapidly in my chest. I was hesitant to take on the challenge he had set for me. Alpha Henrick is such an arrogant and our first encounter is very bad. But I had no choice; I had to do this.

I slowly made my way down the hallway towards Alpha Henrick's chamber, my stomach in knots. When I eventually reached the door I paused, my heart pounding in my chest. Taking a deep breath, I lifted my hand and knocked.

He opened the door, revealing his smug face. His eyes were narrowed, and his lips were curled into a sneer. He crossed his arms and scoffed when he saw the tray of food I'd brought.

“Your breakfast, Alpha,” I smiled at him.

“What?! You think I care about your pathetic attempts?” he jeered.

“My peace of offering. I just want to apologize about what happen,” I apologized.

His voice was so full of disdain and mockery that it made my heart sink.

“Why don't you take your food and leave me in peace?” he said as his forehead frowned.

I was taken aback by his rudeness and tried to ignore it, hoping he wouldn't see how much it bothered me. I kept my head down but he closed the door on me loudly while I was still standing in front of it with the food tray in my hands. I just held my breath, feeling the coldness of the door against my skin.

Elijah saw the scene from behind and I could feel his disappointment. I shrugged my shoulders, telling him that it's impossible for an Alpha like Henrick to be nice to me.

"Don't give up," Elijah said as he reached out to hold my arm.

"I know it won't take long for him to see that there is you, who will love him and make him happy.” he said.

“But we know the truth. I don't love him so if that happens, we will only hurt him. It might get worse." he paused, looking deep into my eyes.

"Do you think this is right?" I shook my head, feeling the confusion.

I knew Elijah was only trying to do everything for his best friend, but I also knew it was impossible. I couldn't bring myself to hurt Henrick like that, even though he was so very arrogant and loves to insult women. I knew he wouldn't feel the same way about me but I couldn’t help thinking of it.

I looked away, feeling a heavy weight on my chest. Elijah sighed, and I saw him squeeze my arm gently before he stepped back.

In the middle of our conversation, a woman suddenly approached us. She was wearing a simple, yet stylish, black dress and her hair was tied up in a loose bun. Her eyes were bright and inquisitive and she had an infectious smile. She took a few steps closer to us and asked with a friendly tone,”Hi, do you think Alpha is awake?'

Elijah frowned and looked at me. He then answered firmly, “No. He is sleeping!” he responded firmly.

The woman seemed undeterred and asked, “Are you sure? What if I try to wake him up?” Her enthusiasm was clear and it was obvious that she was eager to see Alpha Henrick.

I felt a wave of annoyance wash over me. Why was she so eager to see Alpha Henrick? I wanted to tell her to leave, but Elijah spoke before I had the chance. He lied and said, “He has found his future Luna, so you can leave.”

The woman's face lit up in curiosity and disappointment. She looked at me from head to toe and asked, “Who?!”she asked as she raised her eyebrows.

Before I could answer, Alpha Henrick stepped out of his room. He was wearing a white shirt and a pair of jeans and his eyes were cold and piercing.

“What's going on here?”
