Chapter 6
"Nevermind. Can you tell me what happened to your hand and face,?" Alpha asked with concern in his voice.
"Oh, it's just a scratch and a bruise. Nothing serious," I replied nonchalantly.
"Let me see," he said as he gently took my hand and examined the wound.
"It's not too bad. I'll have our healer take a look at it just to be safe," he said before turning to Elijah.
"Thank you for helping. I appreciate it," Alpha said sincerely.
Elijah nodded and the tension in the air dissipated. It was clear that Alpha was just worried about my safety and I appreciated that. As his mate, I knew that he would always have my back.
After the Doctor finished treating my wound, Alpha wasted no time in calling for his services. He stood by my side throughout the entire process, ensuring that I was well taken care of.
As the Doctor bid us farewell and left the room, I couldn't help but notice Alpha's gaze fixed on me. His expression was a mix of concern and affection, as if he couldn't bear the thought of losing me.
"Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine," I reassured him, attempting to lighten the mood with a smile.
His grip on my hand tightened, and he spoke with genuine emotion, "I can't bear the thought of losing you, Clara."
A surge of electricity coursed through my body as he kissed my hand. It was a sensation I couldn't quite explain, causing butterflies to flutter in my stomach. I quickly withdrew my hand, not wanting to entertain these unfamiliar feelings.
"Can you leave me to rest now, Alpha?" I requested, hoping to regain my composure.
"Are you sure?" he asked, his voice filled with concern.
I nodded, assuring him, "Yes, I'll be fine."
"Alright, just remember to call me or Martha if you need anything," he said, a warm smile gracing his lips.
"Of course," I replied softly.
As he left the room, I found myself staring up at the ceiling, unable to shake off the impact he had on me when he held my hand. The question lingered in my mind - why did his touch affect me so deeply?
As I slowly stood up, I tried to shift my attention away from the wolves training in the distance. I took a deep breath and gazed out the window, wondering how long I could stay here. I knew I had to make sacrifices for my parents, and soon I would make Alpha pay for what he had done. Suddenly, a knock on my door startled me, and I walked over to open it.
Martha stood before me, carrying food and a warm smile. She asked how I was feeling, and I thanked her for the food. As she left, I quickly devoured the meal, feeling ravenous. After changing my clothes and looking at myself in the mirror, I reminded myself of the reason I was here. I couldn't fail this mission, even if it meant leaving behind those I cared about.
The next morning, I woke up early and decided to explore the palace. As I walked down the quiet corridor, I ran into Martha and two other women on their way to the kitchen.
"Good morning, ," Martha greeted me warmly, her smile lighting up the room.
"Good morning, our Luna," the girls beside her chimed in, their smiles mirroring Martha's.
I couldn't help but return their smiles. "Just call me Clara. I'm not your Luna," I replied, trying to sound serious.
Martha's smile didn't waver. "But that's where it's going. You'll still be Luna because you're the lucky one chosen by Alpha," she said, her voice filled with admiration.
I nodded, acknowledging her words. "You're right, but for now, let's stick with Clara," I said, a smile playing on my lips.
The woman's eyes sparkled with genuine admiration. "Your beauty is truly enviable, Clara," she complimented, her smile never fading.
Grateful for her kind words, I smiled back and bid them farewell. As I turned to leave through the grand doors, I couldn't help but glance back. My curiosity piqued when I overheard the guards engaged in a conversation that made my eyes widen in surprise.
