Chapter 2 Me or Her?
Zora
A bubbly champagne on them didn't calm my raging thoughts but I did feel good for a split moment.
But it was soon interrupted by Lori's ear-piercing scream.
"What did you do?" Lori pointed her well manicured finger at me.
"Oh I saw you two were getting a little heated so I help you to cool down a bit. You wouldn't blame me, right?" I turned to Casey.
He looked like he was dragged out of his teenager wet dream.
He took a look at Lori, her blond hair was sticking to her face, her beautiful green silk dress was torn from their steamy action before, and with the splash of the champagne, it was also wet. The champagne ran on her nearly bare chest and dripped down to the floor.
He then looked down at himself, he was in the similar situation, sticky champagne on his expensive tailored suit.
He turned around to look at me.
I sneered and met him with a cold gaze.
"I... I don't know why I did that." His panic settled in.
And then I heard a lot of noises coming from behind. People were attracted here by Lori's scream, like a shark detected blood in the ocean, they came to see this unfold.
I didn't want to make a scene and further complicated things, so I signaled for Casey to come with me, we could work this out in private.
Casey saw me and I could see the hesitation in his eyes, he looked back and forth between me and Lori. It was like he was choosing between me and her. He moved towards me, but only after a few steps, he looked back again at her.
At this, I lost my patience, I turned around and start walking without looking back at him.
"Please, Casey, don't go, you can't abandon your fated mate."
I spun around to see Lori holding Casey's hand, and Casey was also holding her hand with his other hand. As soon as he saw me, he let go of her.
"Please, Luna Zora, I'm sorry, but please don't take him away from me. I am willing to be with Casey as the daughter of Alpha Garrick from the Howling Moon Pack, I won't force you to be away from him, please! I just want to be with my fated mate."
Fat tears rolled down her cheeks, ruining her perfect make-up.
"So she is Alpha Casey's fated mate?" I heard people gasped.
"Oh yeah? But I am not willing to share my husband with anyone. I may not be the daughter of an Alpha, but I wouldn't stoop so low."
"Zora, please, not here, I will handle this." Casey pleaded with me, he rarely spoke to me like this. My heart did a flip and I felt a faint pain. I was too tired even to say any words.
I turned around and walked back to our house, I didn't look back, not even once. I could feel him catching up to me after a while, but either of us spoke anything on the whole way back.
I was thinking, contemplating, and I didn't know what he was thinking.
I got back to our house, I was supposed to talk to him, to throw everything on his face, but it seemed like he didn't want to talk to me. I heard the guest bedroom being opened and shut, it was like he was shutting the door for our communication.
Well, I didn't want to be the one to talk first, he should be explaining to me, not the other way around.
I quickly freshened up. I didn't linger in the shower, because I knew I would over-think when I was showering.
I was hoping that Casey would break the silence with me, but even when I got on our bed, he was not there.
There was no doubt that I wouldn't able to find sleep tonight. I wondered what Casey was doing right now, was he sleeping? Was he up like me?
And he didn't even give me the surprise like he said he would. What was his surprise again?
I tossed and turned all night, my mind was filled with intrusive thoughts. I closed my eyes and fell asleep because I was exhausted. But only a few moments later I heard my alarm went off.
Shit, it was the annual Peace meeting, I had to get to the Pack House.
I went to the bathroom to take a quick shower, I would normally make myself looked presentable during these occasion, but today I didn't really feel like it, so I dress what I normally do.
When I left the room, I saw Casey stood in front of the guest bedroom.
"Zora, we need to talk."
"So now you want to talk? We need to get to the annual Peace meeting now if you don't want to be late."
Was he so lost in her that he forgot we have meeting today?
"It's okay, I told Dustin that we will be running late. Please, I've been thinking all night."
"What were you thinking? About her?"
"No, why would you think that? I mean us, I was thinking about us."
"Why would I think that? I saw everything you did last night, how you kiss her, how you make out with her on your wife's birthday party!"
"I didn't have sex with her!"
"So now I have to be grateful for you not fucking her?"
"You know that's not what I mean, please, Zora... I just... Lost control... I wanted to reject her, but I just couldn't do it, you know me, you know I don't want to hurt you."
"You promised me! You said you will reject her! How could you do this?!"
"Zora, please... I will try to reject her, I just need time to decide... Please don't give up on me, don't give up on us." He took a step forward, trying to hold my hand, but I pushed his hand away.
"Please, Zora..." He cried. Of all these years I had known him, this was the first time I see him like this. I was not made of stone, when I saw the tears come out of the man I loved so much, I trembled as well. I could feel his pain.
"We will figure something out," I said as I held his face, and looked him in the eyes. I did believe that, I just doubted that something would make me happy. But I decided to give him one last chance, for the sake of the past 5 years.
When we arrived at the Pack House, it was already full of people. For some reason they kept looking at me weirdly, I didn't have to guess what happened, I knew words traveled, and now everyone knew. After all, there were a lot of people who attended the party last night, they saw Casey went with her, you don't need to be a genius to guess what happened.
I tried not to let this get into my head, and I kept my composure, I saw someone I knew in the crowd, and just as I was about to make my way over there, I heard everyone around me gasp loudly, I turned around, and I saw her.
Lori.
Apparently, Casey saw her as well. What the hell was she doing here?
I could feel the fire in my heart burn through, my fist balled up. I couldn't help to stare at her, and then I shifted my gaze to Casey because I knew, it didn't matter how much I fight her, as long as Casey tolerate her, there would be no place for me.
And just as I expected, Casey's eyes were fixed on her, like there was no one else around him. What did he just promise me?
When I looked at Lori again, I could see that she was a mess. Lori, who was on the verge of tears, the corner of her eyes, and the tip of her nose tinged with pink, showing her emotion, I bet he could feel her sadness, could he feel mine?
Could he feel my rage for her daring to show her face after last night? Could he feel the anxiety I was feeling for his lack of reaction? Could he feel the hopelessness I feel about what's about to happen?
"What are you doing here? This is no place for you." Casey finally spoke.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you... It just happened, I didn't want to break your family. Please..." She wasn't looking at him, she looked at me with pleading eyes when she said those words. So she wanted to shift the focus on me?
"She has nothing to do with this! What the hell are you doing here? It's not some party you could just attend, this is the annual peace meeting! Leave now!"
"Please, Casey, my father knew about what we do last night, and... And he threw me out! He said he didn't want a daughter like me anymore, he said I should learn to share you with Luna Zora, that I couldn't keep my fated mate to myself..."
"Enough, stop, this meeting continues, you and I will talk in private."
Private?! The last time they were in private they nearly sucked each other's faces off!
"Please, Zora, held the meeting on my behalf of me. Trust me, do you remember what I said earlier?" As if he could sense my doubt, he asked almost pleadingly.
"Please, Luna Zora, we need you."
Dustin also came out to remind me of my Luna duty.
"Yes, Luna Zora, please, I am not here to steal your man..."
She sounded so pitiful, I almost felt bad for her. But seeing her like this I was once again reminded of what I saw last night, the memory that was imprinted in my head forever...
"Enough! Stop talking unless I tell you to. Zora, please, trust me on this, just for this once, I can handle this. If I fail this, I lose the right to be your man." He said that in front of everyone present in this room, it somehow moved me, no matter how pretentious this woman was, I should at least give him a chance to rectify this, right?
"Okay." That was all I said as I walked off to hold the meeting on behalf of him. I didn't want to look back, I was afraid of what I might see if I looked back.
I could hear Lori's faint cry as I walked farther away. I had no time for her, I was a Luna, and I performed my Luna duty.
The meeting went smoothly. I did great without Casey. I used to think this was what I meant to do, I was meant to be his Luna, but now, I was not so sure any more.
After the meeting ended, I asked Dustin to take care of the rest.
I was tired from the previous night, I decided to return home and have some rest.
But when I pushed the door open, I was met with a scene I never expected.
Lori was here, in my house, with Casey's arms wrapped tightly around her…
So Lori was my belated birthday present now?Was that the big surprise he's talking about?
What a fucking suprise!
