Chapter 5

“No.” I raised my gaze towards my husband, my chosen mate. My hopeful eyes met his Teal ones filled with confusion and hesitance. Just when his eyes met mine, he instantly gazed away.

“But the elders are not going to accept that, Morana. You’re fully aware of that.” he muttered before moving away from me. I followed him as he paced around the room as though thinking of something to work this out.

“Ha . . .” I scoffed, tears building up at the corner of my eyes.

Who was I kidding? He would never reject her. No matter what he does, no matter what I do, the matebond will always be stronger than some stupid promise we both made in front of the altar.

Logan walked over to me, taking a hold of my shoulders as he tried to make me look at him. “You understand this, Morana, right? I just have to negotiate with Jane and—”

“Jane?” I interrupted. His eyes widened, confused. His grip loosed on my shoulders and I instantly shove them away. “You two are on a first name basis now?” I asked, standing up from the corner of the bed.

I groaned as the feeling of shards resurfaced on my still-healing skin forcing my feet to stand straight.

“Morana, you’re being immature. Lay back on the bed, it’s—it’s just some stupid names.” He muttered before walking towards me as though pushing me back to the edge of the mattress.

“Immature?” I asked, my lips curving into a small smirk. “I’m the one being immature, Logan?” I look at him dead in the eyes before a scoff came out of my lips and I lost control, laughing. I wipe the tears on the corner of my eyes before turning to him.

“You fucking lost control when you saw her, Logan! You two were so immersed in sucking each other’s faces that you didn’t even notice how the spotlight was on the two of you!” I screamed at his face as a lone tear disrupted my cackling face.

Shit, I didn’t want to show him these tears yet! I still have so much to say.

Something flashed in his eyes. Whether it was guilt, sadness, or just fear, I don’t know, but it was washed away as instantly as I saw it.

“Please Morana, you’re still hurt and—” he stepped closer which earned him a step back from me.

“Goddamnit Logan, you have no other plans of rejecting her, right?” My voice finally caved in to the sad beating of my heart, softening.

“What?” Logan dumbfoundedly uttered. Anger rose in me and my gaze turned black. I knew it.

“Who knows, maybe you’re thinking of fucking her right now? Just tell me and I’ll even spread her dirty legs for you!” I smirked, the hurt seeping in my voice, but I tried to hide with a series of laughter.

“Morana!” He screamed but I didn’t stop. A minute passed as we both tried to calm ourselves. The walls of the room stood witness to this first fight we ever had. We fought a lot, but if I compare all of those with right now, I’d be willing to take a hundred more of those tiny fights.

Just don’t make it about another girl.

I sighed, leaning my head back as I push the tears to where it came from.

I raised my gaze towards him, my body feeling numb. “I’m coming with you to the elders tomorrow.” I turn around and walked towards the vanity as if nothing happened.

Logan followed me, his reflection in the mirror looking stressed yet he remained standing to where he was while I took some tissues, wiping my face.

“Why are you suddenly coming?” He asked, his voice raising. I look at him from the mirror.

“Ha, as if you could convince them with the presence of that fucking girl in the conference room.” I muttered, throwing the tissue on the trash can beside the vanity.

Logan was left speechless.

He knows he couldn’t too. His primal instincts would take over, and who knows, he might fuck his mate in front of the elders for all I know.

“That’s what I thought.” I mumble before forcing my feet to haul itself back to the bed. I felt myself sinking from all the feelings rippling inside me.

Both of us have already been through so much and our marriage has remained resilient since then.

But Good Goddess, just what the hell is happening?

That night, Logan slept on the couch.

Morning came and the two of us are now walking towards the conference room, pack warriors I still don’t recognize guarded the door. I suspect they were brought by the father of Jane, Logan’s mate.

I glared at the guy that now holds tons of bruises from last time. He begrudgingly opened the door and piles of people greeted us.

Elders from the Dark Moon pack stood up in the presence of their Alpha and Luna but Jane’s father and his Beta did not. I gritted my teeth before sitting at Logan’s side while he sat on the central chair.

I look at Jane’s father in the eye, he was Alpha Hilton from Greenland Pack. He returned my gaze with a look of pity.

Goddess help me or I’ll go over this table just so I could bang his face on its wooden surface.

The highest elder from our pack on the other side of the central chair stood up, pulling me from such violent thoughts. “Today, we are here to address the situation that has recently arisen. Jane, the Alpha’s mate—”

“Let us cut to the chase, please. I believe my husband, and I, as this pack’s Luna, cannot accept your daughter in any way inside this pack.” I cut the elder off and he slowly sat down, shifting his eyes between me and Jane’s father, Alpha Hilton.

“Luna Morana, I do not think you have any right to interfere in this discussion which involves your Alpha’s personal matter.” Hilton’s Beta muttered, completely shutting me down.

My brows furrowed at his response. What the hell do they mean by ‘personal matter’? That I’m no part of Logan’s decision on this?

“And I’m confused why you’re even here, Beta—” Logan pulled my seat towards him, stopping me from muttering anymore words. I turned to him.

“Beta Gustos, I forbid you to speak like that with my wife. She has the right to decide on this.” Logan growled at the Beta. He shrinks back to his seat and I pursed my lips, trying to hide my smirk.

I’m this Alpha’s wife, idiots.

Jane’s father, Alpha Hilton smiled apologetically at Logan. “Easy there, Gustos. I am very sorry for such an irresponsible Beta. He still needs to learn a lot.”

Yeah, right he does.

I turn towards Logan and he flashed me a small smile. I returned it with a nod.

This meeting is turning better than expected.

“Like Alpha Logan said, this acceptance depends on Luna Morana’s decision on the matter.” Alpha Hilton agreed. I turn to him, quite confused.

Why is he agreeing?

My eyes widened when it met his, the sight of Jane looking back at me flashed before my eyes. A cunning look telling me this meeting is never going to be the way I want it to be.

“As you all know, an Alpha wolf’s strength doubles when it is combined with its mate,” Alpha Hilton turned to the elders, they all gave an understanding nod.

His eyes met mine, those wrinkly eyes carrying an emotion I couldn’t decipher “—its real mate.” he emphasized. My brows shot up and I fisted my hand on my dress underneath the table.

This fucking old man.

“Of course, Dark Moon pack has been known to have a generous heart, even our pack pales in comparison to yours. So I know that Luna Morana here would be kind enough to think of her pack first. A strong Alpha would result in a stronger pack, and when they mate . . .” Alpha Hilton pierced his gaze at me, a smile on his face.

“—would result in even stronger heirs!” He clapped his hands as the other elders nodded at his suggestion. I swallowed the lump in my throat, but I kept my gaze straight at him.

“I think Luna Morana here would rather share his husband to his real mate, right? She would never abandon the pack for their insignificant love bound by nothing but marriage only.” He smiled as though showing genuine care.

I hold my tongue by biting on it hard. I can’t lash out on this one.

Be fucking civil, Morana.

“Alpha Hilton, this is not a decision that’s only up to my wife. It also depends on me.” Logan interrupted, cutting off the tension between Jane’s father and I.

We both turned to Loga .

“And as the other person you’re referring to, I personally refuse to mate with your daughter.” Logan diplomatically replied.

Silence reigned the room after his response before a cackle from Jane’s father emerged, a light scoff came out from the Beta too.

“I do not know if you still remember, Alpha, but you’ve been all over my daughter’s body so much that you instinctively slapped your wife away just so you could continue kissing your real mate.” Alpha Hilton announced.

The elders looked at each other, hesitance in their eyes.

Logan turned to me, a worried look on his face. His eyes landed on my cheek as though reminiscing that very same day his hand first landed on my face, not to kiss me, or hold me, or caress me, but to hurt me.

To shut me out.

“You have guts playing your words around, Alpha Hilton. Yet it is still not certain if it was your daughter who desperately clung to my husband.” I replied, my mouth running on its own now that even Logan wasn’t stopping me.

“Who would know for sure if you’ve raised yourself a child that has now turned out to be a leeching whore?” I muttered, leaning back on the seat.

Alpha Hilton’s eyes instantly blew up in anger and his canines slowly came out of his lips, growling at me.

Logan came up in front of me, growling back even louder, his talons slipping out.

The conference room was in chaos and we were not even thirty minutes in. Talk about some worst luck.

“Please, calm yourselves. We have decided.” The two Alpha turned their heads to the central chair where the highest elder of the Dark Moon Pack stood up.

“A Game only held once in a century would be hosted to determine which of the two women is fit to sit beside the Alpha.” The elder announced.

I know this game . . .

“No!” I aggressively declined.

“I am already Logan’s Luna! I am Dark Moon Pack’s Luna. I have proved my strength long ago and it has gotten me this far. Why am I obliged to do it all again for a seat already fated to be mine?” I reasoned.

“My daughter is inexperienced with combat! I have never let her get hurt in such wars compared to this woman who has marked herself a part of bloody messes! This is an unfair battle to begin with!” Alpha Hilton raised his voice.

I glared at him when he returned with the same look.

“No, Miss. You cannot go in!” We both turned as the doors of the conference room opened and the two warriors that guarded out front were trying to stop Jane barging in, yet can’t seem to find the right to actually touch and drag her out.

I turned towards Logan and his eyes were already fixed on the woman.

They really are mates.

“I have heard everything, Logan. Just give me this opportunity. I’ll take what’s actually mine.” Jane stared at his eyes with sheer determination.

No, she can’t just barge in my life and take everything I worked hard for!

I instantly opened my mouth to refuse, “No—”

“Alright.” The room silenced as we all turned to Logan who’s now nodding his head at Jane.

Fucking matebond.

He stood up and added, “We are holding the Luna Game as planned.”
