Chapter 4: Bright Lights, Big City
The cab driver drove off from the airport. It'll take about fifteen minutes to get to my hotel, so while I'm on my way there, I'm going to look out of the window and see a bit. I lit up a cig and sat in the back seat of the cab, thinking "I'm going to be a famous model soon!" While glancing out of the window, I could not believe how beautiful this city is. We were going over this huge bridge. I asked the cab driver, "Is this the Brooklyn Bridge?" He replied, "It is."
My eyes just gleamed because of the looks of this bridge, it's so long and a bit narrow then you see complete water surrounding it. The cab driver even said that it lights up at night.
After we crossed the Brooklyn bridge, all I see is the tallest building that I'd ever seen.
I'm in shock by the looks of this city already, where I'm from it is nothing compared to this! I'm definitely moving here, and I do not care what my family or Sam thinks about it. I can already feel as if I'm at home here!
Arriving at my hotel, I tossed the cab driver some money and got out of the cab quickly. I wanted to hurry and get into my room to put my things in there and then go out into the city!
While walking through the city alone, I'm not even scared to be by myself. I'm not sure why, but I'm not, and people say never walk alone. Continuing to walk through the city, I stopped at the Statue of Liberty. It's a distance away, but I can see it from where I'm standing and it's just as beautiful as it is in the pictures. After a few minutes there, I walked down to Times Square. All of this is not far from my hotel.
While I'm walking to Times Square, I can't believe how close all these tall buildings are and the traffic is bumper to bumper. This place is so different from Nebraska, of course, so much better than that place. I feel like I should have already been living here!
I've finally arrived at Times Square and OMG this place is booming with crowds of people. I'm going to call Leila and tell her all about this! But first I'm going to do my thing.
Oh my goodness Times Square is the most beautiful place I've seen yet. I mean, the buildings have big, lit-up, billboards on them. I finally got to see where the New Year's Eve party is held and where the ball drops. I'm stunned! There are people walking all over here. This is unreal to me. In the center of the street, you see people performing their acts! It's just so beautiful here and I fell in love with this place! I can't wait to see this in the nighttime.
I may not even go back home, I may find a part-time job here and do my modeling starting now! The only thing that I will have to do is find an apartment. That shouldn't be hard because there are many apartments for rent here, it's not like back home.
There are so many opportunities here, and much to do. It's not a boring town like in Nebraska, where there is nothing to do and barely any jobs, "well, at least not the one I want."
Right off to the right of me is the Hard Rock Cafe, I'm gonna go in and check it out, I've never been to a hard rock cafe before. The picture of the guitar on the outside of the building says it all. This place is amazing. The inside is full of memorabilia from the old musicians and some newer musicians, there are guitars in frames, pictures of all musicians, and a big restaurant that is absolutely beautiful setup. There is even a very old car hanging from the roof of this place!
After I finished checking everything out, I went into the restaurant and ordered a coffee and a vegetarian plate.
While I'm sitting at my table by a pillar with a guitar inside it, the waitress brings me my food. She handed me my food, I thanked her, then she asked me, "Are you sitting here alone?"
"Yes," I replied.
"Aww. My name is Haley. It's nice to meet you." She said,
"Hi. I'm Star. Nice to meet you as well." I replied.
"If you need anything just yell." She said,
"Thank you," I replied.
I thought to myself, "Wow there are even nice people here."
While I'm eating my food, Haley came back to my table and asked if I wanted a refill on my coffee? I didn't, then she asked me If I'm new in town because she had never seen me here before. So, I told her that I'm here for a modeling position. I didn't want to go into all the details with her, barely knowing her. Then I mentioned to her that I'm from Nebraska.
"Oh wow. That's awesome!" Haley said.
"Thanks! I'm hoping to move here. New York is a beautiful place!" I replied.
"Yes, it is. I've lived here for three years now and I love it here." Haley said.
"That's great!" I replied.
"Well, if you ever need someone to show you the big city, get hold of me. Here is my number." Haley said.
"Okay. Thank you." I replied.
After Haley walked away, I was shocked because she is a really nice person and now I'm feeling so good about moving to New York. I've only been here a few hours and already met someone. This is so unreal to me.
After finishing my food, I left a ten-dollar tip on the table for Haley, then went to pay for the food and left. While I'm back out in Times Square, I've decided to walk back to my hotel to freshen up. I'm definitely going to see this palace at nighttime.
There are so many people here that it's like everyone bumps into each other at certain spots, so when I got into a crowd of people, I bumped into a few, but it was like they did not even care, they must be used to this kind of stuff. Walking further away from Times Square, there comes another crowd of people, so I tried to hurry and walk around the small crowd, but as I walked past one of the other coffee shops, the door flew open and I bumped into it. The guy that came out of it said.
"OMG. Are you okay? I'm terribly sorry."
"I'm okay," I replied.
He looked so familiar to me that I'm trying to remember where I had seen him. Then it came to me. He is the one I fell into on the plane. Instantly, I felt so embarrassed again. My cheeks get red and all I did was stare at him.
"Are you sure you're okay?" I didn't see you coming." He said.
"Yes. I'm fine." I stuttered.
