CHAPTER 3
"Yes... I really want to attend the fashion college. At least, if I can't be a bright student like you and attend a normal college, I still have something I am capable of doing," Lena explained as she opened up a bag and brought out a beautiful pink teddy.
Emily stopped folding the clothes when she heard this. She turned to look at Lena who had a bright smile on her face but Emily was able to see that the smile is fake. It looks a little bit forced.
"Lena... You know you are special right?" Emily asked slowly and Lena nodded. She noticed the worried look on Emily's face and immediately tried to dispel her worries.
"Don't mind what I just said... I was just trying to...," She paused for a minute, thinking of the right words to say before she continued, "It's just that I can breathe in relief that somehow I'll still make mom proud by following her footsteps."
Emily smiled and nodded. "You make me proud too... I'm proud of you. You took a huge step by choosing to be a fashion designer like mom," She encouraged Lena.
"Sister... You know mom would be even more proud if you choose to be a fashion designer too... You clearly have the talent. You've got a great eye for choosing clothing materials... That's a start," Lena stated but Emily immediately shook her head.
"Thinking of myself sewing clothes makes me sick... Sorry for saying this but I just can't envision myself sitting in front of a machine."
Lena burst into laughter when she saw the horrified look on Emily's face. "Hey... You don't have to look so worried... No one is going to force you," Lena assured sweetly.
"You sounded like mom just now."
Lena laughed again and pouted, "Of course, I'm her daughter."
"Oh! That reminds me... Let's hurry up and finish unpacking before mom comes back so we can cook a nice meal for her to show us..."
Lena suddenly interrupted her, "Cooking is boring. I was thinking you would suggest we finish unpacking on time so we can go out to the neighbourhood and meet people... We might make new friends and who knows..."
She paused and winked at Emily before finishing her sentence, "Who knows, you might actually meet a hot guy that might get you hooked?"
Emily flung a cloth at her and Lena dodged it while laughing. "We are doing no such thing... Once we finish unpacking, we are going to the kitchen... I'll drag you there if you plan to sneak out." She immediately added the last statement when she saw the mischievous twinkle in Lena's eyes.
Lena frowned with a pout, realizing that Emily figured out her plan that she had barely started to hatch.
"But we can't stay indoors all day... I'll get bored to death," She whined but Emily wasn't having any of it.
"Ssh... Focus on those boxes."
"Sister... Do you really not want to check out the neighbourhood? Who knows, we might find an ice cream truck?" Lena gave it her last shot, trying to use Emily's favourite to blackmail her but the latter just narrowed her eyes at Lena and she immediately shut her mouth.
"Brother! You can't do this to me! You promised mom you'd take care of me so why are you kicking me out now!?"
Ryan groaned inwardly and rubbed his temple when he heard Scott's words. He could already feel a headache approaching. The latter had just barged in while he was barely halfway with the paperwork.
Ryan looked up at Scott and sighed. He stood up and readjusted the tie that seem to be choking him.
"Scott."
"Yes."
"Who owns that apartment?" He asked.
"You," Scott replied with a shrug.
"Great... Since it is my apartment, I have the right to choose who to stay with and who to kick out. I also have the right to kick you out so I do not get why you are making such a fuss since it's my apartment. You have overstayed and you are no longer welcome," Ryan told him coolly.
Scott gave a fake gasp and clutched the part of his chest where his heart is located in. "Ouch! That hurts. I'm so heartbroken right now!" he exclaimed but Ryan just turned to walk away.
Scott hurriedly walked forward to stand in front of him and obstruct him from walking away. He eyed Ryan suspiciously and asked, "Brother... Are you planning to bring a lady home? Is that you are kicking me out? Have you secretly gotten yourself a girlfriend?"
Ryan rubbed his face in frustration. "Seems like you are now jobless enough to question me like this," He remarked and Scott immediately understood what he meant.
He quickly gave way for him to pass but he didn't stop hovering around him. Ryan just ignored his unnecessary rants about how their mother wouldn't like it if she hears that the brotherly bond between them is shaken.
He almost laughed when Scott said that. The guy really likes to exaggerate things. Scott paused when Ryan lifted a file and looked at it with a huge frown.
Scott also glanced at the file and immediately understood why Ryan is frowning.
"This file isn't supposed to be here," Ryan mumbled slowly with a frown. Scott nodded in response.
Ryan opened the file and read it but couldn't understand a word. The only thing that captured his attention was the figures written on it. He only had to look at it twice to figure out that something is wrong with the numbers.
Scott had a hidden smirk when he realized that Ryan had figured out what is wrong with the file.
"This is for Chris, right? Why is there such a noticeable error in the calculation of figures in his department? Who was supposed to handle this file?" Ryan slammed the file on the table angrily.
Whoever had delivered this file to his desk must have been aware of the repercussion of this fraud!
Scott smiled and answered calmly, "Chris himself... He doesn't allow anyone else to handle this type of file."
Ryan took the file and walked out of the office. Scott chuckled... Seems like Amy wasn't particularly useless.
