Chapter six

"Ava Brown!!!!!" Her father yelled angrily as he walked into the house, she may be old enough but he still knows how to discipline her even if he knew it my might not work out.

"She is in her study sir, '' one of the helpers said as she collected his suit. She had an expressionless look on her face like she was already used to the father-daughter tantrums. Actually her name was aunt corazon and she has been with the Browns ever since Ava was a little girl so she knew everything about her and her attitude.

"Did I commit a wrong deed in my past life to have such an unfilial child?" He asked again, hitting his walking stick on the ground angrily as he silently cursed.

"We all know how adamant she can be, just have a talk with her in the study and I will send some tea" Aunt corozon replied before walking off and Brown sighed heavily before making his way to the study.

She was busy working on her laptop when her study door threw open and he entered. She raised her head towards him and she rolled her eyes before closing her laptop, she knew she was in for a lecture.

"What is it dad?I have a lot of work pending" she said, removing her glasses and placing them on the table neatly.

"How do you have the guts to work now after embarrassing me" he bellowed angrily as he raised his stick to her face, " how come you are an unfilial child?" He added again.

This time around she stood up and walked in front of him before gesturing to him, " don't forget about your blood pressure dad".

"Don't act like you care about me" he snapped but still sat down anyways.

"C'mon dad, I got married per your request. I have a lot of work and you want me to go on a honeymoon?look dad I just didn't want to disobey you when you asked me to get married but I have my life ahead of me despite that excuse of a wedding" she responded going back to her chair, " I love you Dad but some things are just beyond me okay? that is not who I am" she added and could see him sigh.

"You are the heiress to all the wealth I have amassed so why should you work so hard like a pauper Ava?" He asked, staring intently at his daughter, he just couldn't understand her sometimes.

"Don't worry about that dad and just take care of your health" she replied and faked a smile at him, she knew his firm resolve was already broken. That was the magic that always worked on him no matter what.

"If you refuse to go on the honeymoon then you should grant me another wish and mind you, you can't refuse or I will be really mad" he threatened, raising an eyebrow and she could only sigh.

"What Is it?"

"Move in with Bryan"

"What?" She snapped as she shot out of her chair, I won't do that" she added after a while. she knew her dad was going to ask her that but she didn't know it would be this soon, was her life about to change for the worse because of this excuse of a wedding?

He sighed heavily before gesturing to her to sit down, maybe it was time to tell her the truth.

"Look honey" he began slowly, " we can't always have what we want or wish for in life you see. I have my reasons for getting you married even against your will because neither of us knows what might happen tomorrow, I just want to make sure that you are in good hands when I am no longer here to protect you".

A look of confusion appeared on her face as she listened to her dad. Wasn't he the one reprimanding her a while ago?Why was he sounding so calm and affectionate now? and what did he mean by all these words he was sprouting out of his mouth?

"What do you mean dad?" She was beginning to have a bad feeling about how he was talking like he was passing a silent message.

"I know you don't like Bryan and I am not forcing you to like him either or even share a husband and wife relationship with him but I just want to be rest assured that if by tomorrow I am no longer in this world, I know someone is here to take care of my princess" his heart felt suffocated as these words sprouted out of his mouth, he couldn't believe that his time on earth with his daughter was already over.

"Why are you talking like you are about to die dad?" Ava asked again as she faked a smile at her dad but she could see that there was some truth to what he was saying.

He gently held her hands in his and smiled wearily, " we are not sure about what the future holds baby but we can make it better so please let Bryan take care of you in my stead okay?".

She sighed softly before nodding, part of her was already worried about his words and if moving in with her so-called husband would make him less worried then she would.

"Okay dad, I will move in with him but don't expect anything more" she said with an air of finality.

"Thank you princess," Brown replied happily.

"By the way, why didn't I get to meet the designer who designed my wedding dress?she asked after the emotional moment was over.

"Well even I don't know and I didn't have that wedding dress designed, your father in law had it designed. He specifically asked that famous designer what's his name again?uhm..yes, EQ to have it designed" he replied as the image of his daughter looking so pretty in her wedding dress flashed before his eyes.

"Too bad the gown was just a waste, I hardly say such things but it is really pretty and the designer is perfect" she replied sincerely and he smiled at her. She hardly ever commended anyone because of her narcissistic behavior but seeing how she complimented EQ meant the gown was really pretty.

"Bryan will be here tomorrow so you both can discuss how you want your house to be. I have already purchased one but you can decide against it and get something else".

"Okay dad" she replied and faked a smile at him, she didn't want to see Bryan but she didn't want to hurt her father either so she had no choice but to agree.

As soon as he left she took her phone and called her assistant who was already snoring away in bed.

"Hello" she replied drowsily from the other end, she didn't check the name before picking it up and didn't know it was the devil out to get her brains.

"Are you sleeping when I asked you to finish the work I gave you?" Ava asked and Elora quickly shot out of bed on hearing the voice, she removed the phone from her ears and stared at the name for a while before cursing silently. This snotty witch just got married today but she is still concerned about work?

"I will get the work done and send it to you tomorrow ma'am" she replied energetically, all the sleep that surrounded her was already gone and she was now wide awake.

"I won't be coming over to the office tomorrow as I have to move houses but bring it directly to the address I will send to you and you must be there on time" she ordered professionally and Elora almost wanted to cry.

"Yes ma'am" she answered after a while, gritting her teeth.

"Good" Ava replied and disconnected the call before going back to work but the thought of something being wrong with her dad was still lingering in her memories.

"If not that the paycheck is good I would have resigned a long time ago" Elora yelled in frustration as she threw her hands up in the air before grabbing her laptop. She knew the witch would have her head if she didn't finish the work on time.

As soon as Mr Brown entered his room, he slumped on the bed as the tears he had been struggling so hard to stop finally made it way out of his eyes. He couldn't bring himself to tell her he was about to leave her just like her mother did, it was too painful a story and he just couldn't do it.

Turning towards his bedside table, he picked up the portrait of his wife that was beautifully sitting there and began to caress it slowly. This woman helped him to become the successful man that he was today but she didn't live to taste the fruit of her labor and it was a shame. She left him to take care of their only princess and now he was about leaving her too, wasn't fate a bit too cruel to Ava?

"Honey, I know you must resent me now for wanting to leave our princess so soon but you know it is not my fault. I really don't want to leave her but it seems life has something else already prepared for her you see. I found her a good man and I am sure he will take care of our Ava for us honey, just wait a little and I will join you soon and together, we can take care of our daughter from heaven. I just hope she doesn't end up hating us so much" he said crying as he continued to caress the picture lovingly, if only fate and destiny could be changed but it seems Ava was bound to walk her way through life alone without her parents.

Holding the picture firmly to his chest, he closed his eyes and laid back on the bed. It was a heavy burden for him to bear alone and he couldn't imagine how his daughter would react if she found out the truth. He just had to put all his hope on fate now.
