Chapter 4
He sat in his throne room, thinking and brooding over a dream she had last night—it was a werewolf—and he was stuck mid-shit hiding in a dark alley, crying for help. She seems to be in distress, and of all the people that passed that alley, they didn’t seem to care. She didn’t seem to pay them any mind. Until he passed, she looked up at him with pleading eyes and even went as far as holding his trousers, begging him to help her.
From his point of view, it looks like a werewolf needs his help, but how was he going to help her when he didn’t even know the dark alley she was in? He had called all the elders to help him figure it out, but none of them could fully understand what the dream meant. Was the moon goddess trying to tell him something? What was his mate that he saw in the dream? He could still remember vividly what he saw in the dream: long black hair mixed with blue and gray.
It was so striking in the dream that he couldn’t keep it to himself. After a while of brain-storming, his beta David Nightwalker spoke, "Might I suggest we go for a walk, sir? Perhaps we should stubble into her?" He looked at his better, a dissatisfied look on his face as he said. "I've been avoiding doing that, you know. What if she is actually my mate and I don’t like her? Or she is the same girl I caught blushing for the first time on her 20th birthday. I don’t even know her name, but I do know I am avoiding her.” David only smiled in response, saying, "Well, you might have to take the step, Alpha. Let's get and find her because if he does not, I worry the dream will persist."
Alpha Silver was quiet for a while, thinking about what his beta said. He was right; this was the fifth time he had seen this girl in his dream. The sooner he finds this girl, the sooner he can stop this dream. He heaved a sign and looked at the elder in front of him, saying, “What do you think, elders? Should I go after her?" The elders nodded in agreement before the head of the elders spoke: “If she is by any chance your mate, I suppose you go after her and keep her in your custody before your twin brother Alpha Diamond finds out and goes after her." He tensed up immediately at the mention of his brother’s name, knowing all the atrocities he had committed with women, always using them as leverage against him so he could take over his title as the Alpha, enslaving everyone and everything to do his bedding.
He knew he couldn’t have that happen, so immediately after the meeting, he had breakfast, and he and his Beta David both went in search of Rubby.
While Alex was already panicking that Rubby, his new plaything and money-making machine, had disappeared and abandoned him, he began lashing out and taking it all out on Rackel, who appeared to be completely innocent, but she wasn’t. She was, in fact, happy that Rubby ran away. She didn’t want anyone stealing her position in Alex’s heart, and so what if she could speak French? Maybe she was a French native; that was why she was so good at it. “This is all your fault; you told me she wasn’t a virgin, hence why I went for her. How could you lie to me?"Rackel just rolled her eyes and fired back. "Oh, wow, so you did go after her? Really, when I am here. Am I not enough for you?” and that statement angered Alex, as he said
"Oh, please give me a break on your cheap slot. When will you learn that I am not and I will never be what you want? I cannot accept you as my mate, not after how many men you have slept with before me."Rackel was instantly shocked at his statement; she didn’t expect him to actually lie to her face like this. He was the sole reason why Rackel was like this, and he had three options: fix her, kill her, or at the very least marry her and claim her as his mate so all the other she-wolfs would know he was off limits while they were busy arguing in front of the shelter, completely unaware of their surroundings. Alpha Silver had packed his car directly in front of them, and he was watching them argue. "Please don’t let me go back in there. I don't know what they would do to me." Rubby said barely a whisper as she kept to herself, but Silver knew he couldn’t take her with him. At least not right this moment.
He ignored her like she hadn’t spoken at all and decided to open the door to get down first. His only job here was to return her to these people so she would stop plaguing his dreams. He was going to ignore his wolf, who kept clawing at him, begging him to accept Rubby as his mate, but he refused, especially because he could sense that she was not strong and also lacked the finesse to become Luna. He cleared his throat to get their attention, and this worked with immediate effect. This was when Alex and Rackel paused to take a good look at their surroundings, and that was when they noticed the strange car in which Rubby was sitting, and they figured that was where this man came out from.
“Is she yours?” Silver asked, avoiding any casual greetings. He was pointing to the casket, and Alex didn’t need to look at what he was pointing out. He just said, "Yes, she is one of us; we were just talking about who would go and look for her. "Alpha, thank you for bringing her back to us.” Sliver cocked his left brow at him, wondering how he found out he was an Alpha. He was shocked by the thought of it, and against his werewolf’s wishes, he returned Rubby to Alex, saying, “Then get that thing out of my car, and take better care of it.” While Rackel quickly got Rubby out of the car, Alex apologized once before Silver left.
“Are you sure that was a good idea—that of our future Luna, you know?” Beta David said to Silver, and that made Silver glare at him. But deep down, he knew David was right, yet he still asked him this rhetorical question. "Would you rather have a weak and miserable-looking Omega as your Luna?” David was quiet for a while because he didn’t have an answer for the alpha; there was nothing he wanted to say to defend Rubby that was going to work. Well, at least he knew her name, so that was progress; he just needed to find out how he would convince the alpha that she was stronger than she looked. But then it occurred to him, so he asked. "Wait, how did you know she was an omega?"
Silver chuckled and said, "Really, are you asking me that? Isn’t it obvious that all Omega’s thanks to their rank are all weak and spineless, figuratively speaking, and if that is her home? Then I believe you have your answer. I don’t need to verbally engage in a conversation with her to find out." Silver explained, looking out the window, and David took it as his way to end the conversation. While Silver made the journey back to his pack, contemplating whether or not he should turn around and go back for her, Rubby had to endure three horrifying weeks of her life. hoping that she could decide to run away or escape.
Alex wasn’t very kind to Rubby; he made sure there were security cameras, and there were even guards to guard every corner. No one goes in or out without Alex’s permission. He made sure the security was super tight. He maltreated her, took advantage of her, and made her see hell on earth. Alex didn’t stop there; as the owner of the slave driver/slave hunter shelter, he kept trying to have sex with Rubby on several occasions but did not succeed. This was because Chelse, a blind yet sensitive and clever girl, kept coming to interrupt them, and that angered Alex. After Chelse saved Rubby two times on two different occasions,
Rubby finally realized the importance of friendship; she finally befriended Chelse, and they began looking out for each other there. That was until Alex announced, "There will be an underground action, and all 30 of you had better prepare for it, especially you Chelsea; your time of staying here and playing hero is coming to an end.” Rubby was now worried about their friendship because she knew that it would be put to the test when an underground auction was set up in order to get rid of Chelse, who had been a great shield to her.
