You have some explaining to do
Once we got everyone out of the building they were safe. We looked down the street where they stood. Three people yelled at each other and we knew then that it was them. It was hard to make out all of their features, but their body language said it all. I couldn’t wait for Mom to get here. She had a lot to explain.
“Detective, glad you were able to get here quickly,” Jon said, shaking his hand.
“Jon, can you tell me what happened here? Both my men were hurt.”
“Sorry to hear about your men. Somehow they got the drop on them and ended up in the kitchen and tried to poison our food. But the waiter was able to let Ginger know subtly. So that is when we came up with another plan to get everyone out so no one else would get hurt.”
“Good thing you guys did. I have one officer in critical condition and the other has minor injuries. Who knows what they might have done next?”
“Ginger I’m sorry my men didn’t deter them from trying to come after you.” The detective said with a shake of his head.
“Detective please don’t worry about that. I’m sorry about your men. I don’t like the idea of someone getting hurt because of me.”
“You are a good person Ginger. We still need to figure out how to stop them. And if you haven’t figured it out yet I am one of Jon’s men that lives here in Salem.”
“I kinda figured as much by the way you guys talked to each other. Is it safe to go back in now? I need to call my mom so she doesn’t worry when she gets here in the morning.”
“Let me check and then I will walk with both of you to your room so we can figure out what to do from here.” Then the detective walked away to go talk to the fire chief to see if we got the all-clear. We got the all-clear and headed up to our room. We were hungry and needed to get food somehow. So, we called ahead at a restaurant and then we all went out to eat. We figured it would be safer this way. We get to the restaurant and get our food. Then we all head back to the inn to eat and talk. This trip just keeps getting better and better. We get into the room and we all just sit around the room when my phone goes off.
“Hello”
“You need to get away from those cops if you want to see your mother and sister again. I know you care about them greatly. Now walk out of your room and down the hall make a turn to your right and walk out the back into the alley. I will be waiting for you there.”
“Who is this and how do I know you have my mother and sister?”
“Come out here and find out.”
Then he hung up. I just looked at everyone in the room.
“Jon, can you have someone go check my mother’s house for me?”
“Yes, I can do that. When was their flight out?”
“It was supposed to be leaving now. She would have been arriving in like three hours. I just need to know they are safe.”
“Give me a picture of your family and I will have someone go pick them up.” The detective said to me.
I did what he asked me and he sent some of his men to the airport to get my family. I noticed Jon n was on the phone and talking in an eager tone. While the detective was talking calmly. I took that time to call my mom on the phone. I knew there was a chance she wouldn’t answer, but I knew I had to try. She answered her phone and I felt better hearing her say hello.
“Mom, are you and Nigel on the plane?”
She answered that she was on the plane.
“I will have cops there to pick you up and bring you to where I am.”
She wanted to know what was going on and why I was having cops pick them up. I explained the best I could and sent her a picture of one of the cops that will be there and if they have any problems they are to call me right away. Then we hung up and I felt better knowing that they didn’t have my family. It was easy to not show up and wait for them to call again. Which didn’t take long once they realized I wasn’t coming. The phone rang and I answered and put it on speaker.
“You must not care or you are not taking me seriously. I will kill them if you don’t come to me now.”
“What proof do you have that you have my family?”
“So you figured out I don’t have them yet. Okay little one, we will play it your way then. I will have them and you will wish you came to me first before I had them in my hands. I know what they are and I can kill them just as well. We will be talking soon and you will come to me then.”
Then the phone went dead. I looked at them and I had to know.
“Are we sure you can get to my family first?”
“With everything you have given us and that you have told your mom what is going on they will be on guard and we will be right there when they get off the plane.” Detective replied
“I need to get this article written and then go back home but something tells me this isn’t going to be easy.”
“We can try getting as much done tomorrow after we get your family here,” Jon said
We call it a night and the detective goes to sit out in the hall and he has another in the lobby with one in a car. He wanted to make sure no one could get in tonight. He has one going to the terminal for my mom, one is going to be at the luggage area and one in the parking lot as well. Was the first one awake and the first thing I did was check my phone and I saw the text from Mom saying she found the first guy that came to pick them up. But when they got to the second man he was knocked out. They are now on the run and trying to get away from three men and she is working on an invisible spell. I yell and get everyone's attention.
“What is wrong?” Jon jumped up and asked
The detective runs into the room and looks around.
“One of your men was found knocked out and now my family is on the run from three people. What are we going to do?”
“First you need to calm down so we can come up with a plan. Can you get ahold of your mom and find out where they are?”
“I think so but I don’t want it to ring if they are hiding. So I will text first then we can start figuring out what to do.”
“I will put out to be on the lookout for your family and have them check on my men at the airport.” The detective said
I text Mom and see if she can give me any information about where she is and who is chasing her. The next thing I know the door flies open and there is my sister but no mom. You can see that she is out of breath. Then my mom busts in the door and you can hear fighting down the hall and Jon runs out in the hall to help. Just to watch his Ex run off with her mate. I am checking my mom and sister over to make sure they weren’t hurt. Once I was satisfied that they were good I relaxed.h
“Mom, I need you to tell me what happened.”
“Well, I need something to drink before I can talk.”
I get Mom and sister some water and ask someone to get breakfast for everyone. I didn’t think they would try again so soon. So I figured we had some time to breathe and collect ourselves.
“Okay, we were getting off the plane and saw the guy you said would be there as we got closer to the baggage area. That is when we saw the other man on the ground next to our stuff. We moved slowly to grab our stuff. That’s when Beverly stepped up and told us to come with her. I knew she was your cousin’s mate and I told her to go to hell. Then she went to grab your sister and your sister decked her, which caused her to yell and gave us time to take off. They gave chase and then at the door, your cousin was waiting for us. So we detoured, took off in another direction and returned here with them on our tail.”
“How were you guys able to stay ahead of them?”
“I was able to do a small spell that distracted them long enough for us to jump in a car and start driving. We drove around for a little while then drove here once we got here they showed up and started running after us and we made it here before they got to us.”
Mom finished telling us everything and she still hasn’t calmed completely down yet and I was wondering why. Then the food showed up and everyone could eat I was hoping this would help Mom and my sister calm down. We all ate and then figured we needed to try and get my information for my article so we all could go back home and be able to fight back. I never thought I would be glad to get back to Devil’s Lake North Dakota. I still needed at least two more places to do my article and at least one more restaurant since I had that nice little diner I was going to use that we found.
“I still need to go to the wax museum about the witches and I need some pictures of the statues around the town so I can show and tell how much history is here.”
“Okay, we can make a day of it and then head home in the morning. But I don’t think flying is going to be an option.” Nigel said for the first time since she got here.
“Why do you think we won’t be able to fly home?” Jon asked her
“Because they will be watching the airports for us. So I think we need to be thinking about other options for when we go home.”
“My sister knows how to bring the tough things to light that no one thinks about at first unless she brings them up. She always has a point.”
“We can figure that out when we get back, I hope someone comes up with something by then,” Jon replied
Everyone else just laughed a little but Mom looked worried. I knew I needed her to talk about what was on her mind before she found a way to mask her feelings. We all got ready to go. I could get what I needed so we could head home. But I wasn’t sure being at home was going to be much better even though I wanted to be home. We had to take two cars to the wax museum and I didn’t like it at all. I didn’t like being separated from my Mom now that she was here. We got there and paid our fee to get in and I took pictures and notes and detailed the experience and talked to a few of the staff just so I could get how they felt working there. Once we did that we took a little walk and I got pictures of the statues and of the town itself. That way I would be able to show the whole feel of the place and its history.
“I think we did good and got everything that you should need for your job” Jon announced with a smile on his face.
“We did and I think we should go to a grocery store and get food and snacks because I think I know how we are traveling back home. So we will need a lot of food 'cause it’s going to be a long trip.” I sound to our group.
“Well then, let’s go shopping.” My sister added while I laughed at her.
“You know once we get this done you're taking me on that cruise you got tickets for. I don’t care where they came from.” Nigel kept taunting me.
“What cruise tickets? You never told me about them.” Jon asked
“Let’s finish up this and get back to the room so we can talk there. I’m not going to talk about that here and right now.”
We finished up at the store and got back to the room. We made sandwiches for everyone and Jon was ready to talk. He wanted information from me and Mom and he had no problem making Nigel talk either.
“Brenda (aka Mom) would you like to start telling me how and why Ginger’s mother is alive and why her dad doesn’t know where she is?” Jon asked in a very serious tone that left no room to argue.
“I was wondering when you would ask me that. The day Mark and they had the rogues attack the Goddess panther pack and she was able to get out of there with the twins we came up with a plan. She had Farberon take Lutein with him and Sable kept Ginger with her. She figured they had a better chase this way. Well, Jimmy started to get close to where they were so she came to me to help her fake her death. We got some dead bodies for the morgue and put them in the car and made sure the car would burn fast so there would be no way to identify by face or anything. I went and placed some of her information like registration and insurance with her name on it. Let it have a few burn marks but still could tell it was her name. The other body was small like a child so they assumed it was Ginger in the car as well. I was able to change her name and make people believe I adopted her and raised her as my own. The council before you took over knew all of this so I assumed you did too. That is why I didn’t say anything to you. I did send Faeberon a letter saying his daughter is alive, but not where she was or what she looked like because I did a spell to block her animal and changed her hair some. I have kept her safe all this time. I need to know how they found her. I haven’t removed the spells yet so they shouldn’t have been able to find her until I took them off. Even her mate can’t until my spells are removed.”
“Can another witch show them who she is with your spells on her?” The Detective said
“Who are you?” Mom countered
“My name is Ron and I’m the detective who has been helping your daughter and is a member of Jon’s pack,” Ron said
“Okay, then yes it is possible but it would take a long time for that witch to do and she would have to be a grand high witch like myself,” Mom explained.
“How many Grand High Witches are there?” Jon asked
“Well there are 75 grand high witches that fight on the side of good and then there are about 5 that fight for evil and 10 that try to stay out of it all together so they stay hidden,” Mom replied
“So we have 5 that we need to know if they are working with or have worked with” I pipped in.
“Right, and if I called my friend in the New Mexico coven she might have heard something” Nigel responded with some help.
“Now would someone like to tell me about these cruise tickets that were sent?” Jon asked
“They were sent with my grandmother’s photo album along with a few other things. Before you ask, no, I don't know who sent any of it. But it was all written in the same handwriting that those notes came in.” I told him flatly
“Okay, so another thing we have to figure out. Who is sending all of this to you? I may have to ask Faeberon if he has heard anything about this case and if he knows that Ginger is his daughter and is doing things in a way that helps but keeps him out of the spotlight and doesn’t scare off Jimmy and Mark.”
“Well, I think we all need to get some rest so we can get an early start tomorrow,” Mom said
“I haven’t even told you guys how we should go home,” I said out loud
“Tell us already,” Nigel growled
“I think we should go by train, then if we have any trouble we would be able to switch to airplanes if we need to,” I explain.
“That's a good idea. I will get the train tickets tonight so all of you can go to sleep. I will see you all in the morning.” Jon and Ron walked out to go to the room across the hall while we girls went to bed in my room."
